    Back in 2006 I got a call from Neville Page looking for a 3D artist to work with him in the Art Department of Avatar... back when concept art was still primarily 2D, albeit Neville was already doing amazing stuff with ZBrush. While nobody knew what it was to eventually become... it sounded like an amazing opportunity. I actually took a sabbatical of sorts from Gnomon and spent six months working full-time at Lightstorm. I shared an office with Neville, he introduced me to Nespresso, and it remains to this day as one of the coolest things that I've been lucky enough to experience. During that time I did a wide variety of creature development work that included rigging for pose/animation tests, texture/shader look development, etc... For this animation I was given this beautiful concept painting by Dylan Cole while Neville and I were working on the Fan Lizard. I decided to try bringing it to life using particle effects in Maya and some other animation tools, in order to visualize what the Fan Lizards may look like in flight. It was a relatively quick task with only a couple days to do, but was really fun... and ultimately a good example of how unexpected creature development work can be. Show less
