Big thank you to Charlotte Munn-Wood & Nick Pauly for hosting and throwing a fun party with great music and a gracious audience.
Thanks to Martin Movagh for running home to grab his monitors to make this happen.
I'm using a Keith McMillen Softstep (not pictured) to trigger processes and effects in Ableton. The bass is going in through an old Apogee Duet (the original one). All the effects are Ableton plugins, combinations of them, or Max for Live Effects I built.
Normally, I use an Ableton Push to trigger effects, but I couldn't carry any more gear! A double bass, laptop bag, camera bag, and tripod was enough!
Recorded on a Sony EX1.
The bass playing is entirely improvised, as is the processing you hear. About 75% of the music is precomposed and the rest is left to happen in the moment.
All the tracks are based on my own compositions.
