• L.A. Works MLK Day 2016: The Day in Review!

    1,390 views 2 years ago
On Jan. 18, 2016, approx. 1,300 L.A. Works volunteers used 1,000 paint brushes, 300 gallons of paint and 52 ladders to create 18 murals at two public schools in South L.A. to honor Dr. King. We also built 20 picnic tables, planters and benches, made 32 blankets for the homeless and other beautification projects. Why? “It’s not a child’s fault to be born into poverty,” Woodcrest Elem. Asst. Principal Michael Pile told us. “By beautifying our campus, we show them that they're loved. I ask myself, are we living Dr. King’s dream? By coming together today, I say yes.”

Thank you to all our sponsors and supporters: Target, Macy's, Accenture, Kaiser Permanente, Los Angeles Lakers, Jonathan Club, Nature's Bakery, Lyft, AmeriCorps, unite4:good, Woodcrest Elementary and Washington Preparatory High School.

Additional thanks: L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti, L.A. Laker legend James Worthy, actor O'Shea Jackson, Jr., actor/writer Roger Guenveur Smith and L.A. Board of Public Works Commissioner Mike Davis.
