Boating Tips from the Canadian Safe Boating Council

During National Fishing Week, July 2 - 10th 2016 The Canadian Safe Boating Council promotes a program called “Hooked on Lifejackets”. This initiative will focus on promoting the most basic of safe boating behaviours and one that has the greatest potential to save lives…wearing a lifejacket.

The core messages of the Safe Boating Awareness Week 2016 campaign are :

•Be Prepared, Both You and Your Vessel
•Know The Dangers of Cold Water Immersion

Cold Water Awareness
The best-case scenario for Cold Water Immersion is to "reduce or prevent the risk". If you're boating early in the season or later in the season when the water is still cold, it's as simple as making sure not to overload your boat, avoiding situations where you may fall overboard and, of course, making sure that everyone is wearing a Coast Guard approved lifejacket to protect in the case of an unforeseeable emergency. This series of videos will teach you how to survive an unexpected fall into cold water.
