PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION!!! I ADDED THOUGHTS THAT DID NOT FIT ON THE 15-min VIDEO
Mr. Lima concludes his classroom design series by talking about why he believes education is due for a complete change and how he intends to be a part of the process.
He talks about the computer revolution replacing mental jobs in the way that physical labor was replaced by the industrial revolution.
He discusses how the future is for creative/inquisitive/innovative thinkers who can use/create technology to access/distribute/create information at critical thinking levels.
Education will be about collaborate teacher/student relationships which are student-centered with teachers that work together with other teachers as guides that show students how to practice and create, rather than simply absorb information.
Students and teachers work collaboratively using global learning environment to absorb / share information. Students products are tracked and shared worldwide allowing exposure of student potential and enhancement of the learning community.
Instead of being about how much you learn in a certain amount of time, it will be about learning what you need as fast you can.
Since all must learn certain benchmarks, students will be held accountable not by grades, but by how fast they learn and by the product of their creativity.
Students will learn and Master the material at their own pace and focus on what they want to learn, in the way the want to learn, when they want to learn.
Though some basic skills will always be demanded of all, students will be allowed to focus more on their areas of interests where they excel and learn faster and produce more.
Student will learn in diverse/active/cooperative learning environments that are wired to a global network that allows high achieving and unique creative students to make impacts in global proportions.
Students will use unique technology platforms and will have to invent their own.
To prepare students for this future world, we must be at the forefront of it.
