this is just a little welcome to my youtube channel.

ok, so WHY am i doing this?

well, if there's one thing i've learned doing "creative" work (whatever that means) over the last couple of years, it's that i only get better at something by practicing. by doing something repeatedly. over and over again. that doesn't mean it needs to be repetitive; it just means that you keep sticking to something and slowly, you'll start becoming better. there's a great quote by ira glass on "the gap" that exists in creative work.

"Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is this gap. For the first couple years you make stuff, it’s just not that good. It’s trying to be good, it has potential, but it’s not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesn’t have this special thing that we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know its normal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. And I took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone I’ve ever met. It’s gonna take awhile. It’s normal to take awhile. You’ve just gotta fight your way through."
    - Ira Glass

i really want to get better at filmmaking. i've done some video work in the past; a small part has also been uploaded to this channel.
but i'd like to get in the habit of practicing. sooo, today, i'm officially launching this youtube channel to put a little bit of pressure on myself to keep creating outside of the graphic & screen design work i do daily for uni & for my wonderful clients. i have no idea how often i'll actually upload something to this channel; and for the next months, the content might not even be all that good, but that's basically the point.

see, i had my first youtube channel when i was 13. (don't bother, all of these videos are long gone.) but back then, it just seemed natural to stand in front of the camera and talk. i didn't care what anyone thought of me, i just made stuff. it was shit. but at least i made stuff.

but over the last couple of years, i lost that naivety and now i care how people perceive me and what they think of me and whatever. but that really limits my creative work. so i just want to get back into this naive, but wonderful, creative process. let's see how it goes. (i'm excited.)

(sorry for this wall of text. now follows the standard description that every youtube has; just with my own links. yay! creativity! originality!)
