Glen Gillis came to his local Nova Scotia Works Centre – YMCA Cape Breton – during a period of difficulty. With the support of Nova Scotia Works, he participated in the Skills Development program which provides financial assistance to individuals to help them obtain the skills training they need to help find work. He also participated in the Self Employment program, which assists unemployed individuals by providing entrepreneurial support and financial assistance to start their own businesses.
After his training and with the continued support of Nova Scotia Works, Glen opened JAG Cleaners, a business that is expanding through the entire province. Recognizing that he was once in a place where he faced barriers to employment, Glen is continuing to connect with Nova Scotia Works to implement inclusive hiring practices by recruiting persons with disability for his business.
