My name is Harriet, I am 24 years old from England and I graduated in the Summer of 2015 from Cardiff University. I always wanted to teach English in Spain, in order to improve my Spanish and learn about the beautiful Spanish culture. This experience has been amazing for me and I have loved every minute of it. I have been teaching English in Spain to primary and secondary school students in Larramendi Ikastola, a school just outside of Bilbao. Not only have I been learning Spanish but some Basque too! Next year I will continue teaching English abroad but I hope to do it somewhere different in order to experience another culture and a different way of life. This video shows my time here in the Basque Country, both at home with my host family, with friends that I have made here and in my classes at school. It also shows why I think that, if given the opportunity, everyone should give teaching English a go as it is one of the most rewarding things I have ever done.

I chose Meddeas to teach in Spain as they offer programs in schools, which is a good opportunity to learn in an educational environment.

Meddeas cooperates with more than 200 schools in Spain, and offers different opportunities to teach in Spain according to backgrounds, experience, educational levels, etc. A Language Assistant is a native-level speaker of English who supports the school's language teachers with conversation practice. Their tasks could be encouraging oral practice of the foreign language; explaining the culture of their home country; helping in other subjects such as science, art, P.E.; acting as a role model for correct pronunciation and grammar, and collaborating with teaching staff in creating teaching materials and planning lessons.

If you teach English in Spain with Meddeas, there will be two main components: training through an initial workshop and a university TEFL course; and teaching practice in a partner school.

Requirements to participate and teach English in Spain: recent graduates from any degree are welcome to participate, they must have graduated within the last four years. Speaking Spanish and previous experience are not required but valued.
