Dr Andrew Barker's Poetry Channel, containing the Mycroft Poetry Lectures and the Modern Shakespearean Sonnets.
Andrew Barker's poetry can be found on Instagram at andrewbarkerwriter.
The Mycroft Poetry Lectures were created to help students studying for GCSE, A and I.B. Level examinations and all corresponding examinations world wide, understand and appreciate the poetry they are looking into. Yet whatever the student's level, from post-graduate to literary enthusiast, these lectures should be found useful. Click http://www.andrewbarker.info
should you wish for a transcript and notes of the lecture and analysis in any of the videos.
Poems are examined line by line in terms of their content, (what the poem is actually about), and their form, (the way the poem is written). It is a mistake to think students always know this.
Mycroft Poetry Lectures assume the student is unfamiliar with the poem, then unpack it sentence by sentence, analyzing and explaining the complications and delights within, and try to put across what it is about the work that has made it the famous piece it is.
The lectures are intended be used by both students and teachers of literature. Teachers are welcome to use the lectures in any way they see fit. Setting a lectures as homework so that everybody comes to the class able to understand and discuss the poem is my preferred method.
Poems were selected on the basis that they are on various syllabi, but also because after repeatedly looking into them these were ones I felt contained something I could introduce not easily apparent in an initial reading.
These lectures were prepared for students of University level age, and occasionally contain brief profanity.
I hope these are useful.
I hope you enjoy them.

Andrew Barker's Poetry Channel also contains videos of readings of the poems in my collection: "Joyce is Not Here: 101 Modern Shakespearean Sonnets."
This book is a collection of my own poetry available for purchase from Amazon. In this collection I'm working solely within the tradition of the Shakespearean sonnet. My intention is to see what I can manage if I stick with the form producing five collections of 101 sonnets each. The sonnet videos are released every two days. Andrew Barker.
Note: Mycroft Holmes is Sherlock Holmes' older brother. He is, in the books at least, the one Sherlock goes to when he needs help.
