The late Price Cross, a Dallas insurance executive, brought the Rotary idea to Dallas after visiting the San Francisco Club, and the organizing session was held in the old Oriental Hotel in 1911. The Downtown Club of Big "D" holds Charter #39 and began with 79 members. By 1948, Highland Park and University Park had become a sizable and important segment of Greater Dallas and the time had come to establish the Rotary Club of Park Cities (RCPC). The Charter Night Banquet was held the evening of June 11, 1948 with the introduction of 60 charter members. Jim Maxfield was elected its first president. Over the next several years the Club met at a number of sites before moving to its current location, Maggiano's little Italy Restaurant at NorthPark Center. The Rotary Club of Park Cities and its individual members have received numerous awards from District 5810, Rotary International and the community for its service to mankind.
