Soft Manipulation (SOMA) is the key for the development of simple, compliant, yet strong, robust, and easy-to-program manipulation systems. 
SOMA explores a new avenue of robotic manipulation with the environment, as opposed to manipulation of or in the environment. The exploitation of the physical constraints imposed by the environment enables robust grasping and manipulation in dynamic, open, and highly variable contexts.
The SOMA project started  on 1 May 2015 and is funded by the European Commission (H2020-ICT-645599).
