I created this simple game to help you beat your nerves and fearlessly vlog in public. It’s time to get out of your comfort zone, face the potential awkwardness, get on camera, and deliver your message.
Listen, I get it. Speaking into a camera can be anxiety-inducing and scary as hell. It certainly has been for me as I’ve stepped into creating more video content. There is something that can feel paralyzing looking into the lens of a camera. For me, it was “marble-mouth.” Suddenly, I’d have a hard time forming complete sentences and hours of my footage looked like a blooper reel with a bunch of @%#&’s.
If the thought of being on camera while alone in your cozy safe little home scares you then you’re probably thinking “No f'n way am I going to do that in public?!?!”
If you’re thinking that, good! This exercise is just for you.
I’m a firm believer that if you want to learn to swim, then jump in the deep end. Yes, there is a ton of other advice out there about taking baby-steps to learn to overcome your fear of being on camera. You know who takes baby steps?
You are a grown adult. You’re an expert in your field.
What I’m sharing with you is a hack, a shortcut. It’s a way to take a giant leap forward in a short amount of time.
So much of what we fear is simply a preference setting in our mind that we haven’t yet taken the time or energy to switch. This exercise is about looking past that fear to what’s even scarier and slaying that beast.
As a thought-leader, your audience deserves to hear your voice and feel your presence.
Get out there. Do this exercise and let me know how it went in the comments below. Did you win the game and get three people? More than three?
