Man!! I can't believe I'm finally uploading this!! :D :D
This arrangement was created in Dec of 2010 when Verdegrand was having an arranging request marathon of sorts for his subscribers. To make a long story short... I got lucky and my request was the winner for a current pick. My request... was THIS piece. Verdegrand arranged, practiced and recorded it in under 24 hours (the rules of the marathon) and actually.... I think he did it in under 13 hours, if my memory serves correct. ;)
This piece has always been one of my favorite Final Fantasy songs by far and it was one of my happiest YouTube experiences throughout my years to see Verdegrand arrange and perform this.
There has never been an actual songbook that's had Battle 2 within it..... and all of the various versions/performances you can see across YouTube have been mostly self made. I searched this song for a long time on this site, but was never truly satisfied with a piano arrangement that really brought out Battle 2's essence except for one user named FlashyGoodness who had the best performance video of it for years. Verdegrand, however, nailed it even further and brought out so many more voices.. which makes his arrangement the best for this piece that one will probably ever find. Also the fact that he did so well in his performance in such a short period of time is amazing and really shows his skill! He did this in 12 hours.... it took ME 4 months. ;)
I think the bass line for this song was an epic invention of Uematsu's and I love how this song starts out sounding maniacally sinister and then turns positive with the "we have a chance to prevail" attitude half way through before the loop begins again .... a VERY well written AND classic evil vs good theme. And yet Uematsu seemed to be able to loop both themes seamlessly together in under 60 seconds. ;) Also... about that bass line... I let off the pedal a bit in the first part of the loop because Ivory (my vst) got "muddy" real fast with too much pedal for that section.
Okay! :D So it's been a long time since I've uploaded anything, which is because I've been predominantly working on this piece for the past months. I didn't play it perfect but I CAN say that this piece has taught me more about myself and piano performance than any piece I've ever learned. I don't like to "label" pieces as "difficult or easy" because I think everyone learns at their own rate.... and what is easy for some may not be easy for another. I CAN say, For ME, that this arrangement was very challenging and probably the most difficult piece I've learned thus far. However, it's very fun and rewarding to play and I guarantee that there is a lot of positive technique to be learned by performing it. :)
Thanks for watching and I'll be back with something soon that will take me a little less time to prepare for. :)
This sheet has all the fingerings I used in order to learn this, and I highly recommend using these fingerings from the beginning but also getting the standard sheet above as well. Battle 2 is very fast and some fingerings simply will not work when the final 175 beats per minute speed is engaged in the learning process. You'll save A LOT of time by sticking with these fingerings from the beginning. If anyone has questions... then feel free to message me.
