Welcome to the Palapa Society of Todos Santos, a non-profit organization serving the community of Todos Santos, Baja California Sur, Mexico.
Local young people see the benefits of a strong education that will offer them life opportunities
That's where the Palapa Society fits in. Its mission is to offer local students quality education. Thus, giving them life choices.
Founded in 2002, the Palapa Society began with the Bridge to English Program (Puente). This program has expanded to over 120 students.
The Palapa's other programs include
Adult English classes with 60+ adults
Eco Kids, an environmental program
A Community Library with over 6000 books and hundreds of videos
The Beca scholarship program for 80 high school and university students.
Additional outreach programs have included Hurricane relief providing emergency essentials and replacement of over 200 roofs.
A major step in the evolution of the Palapa Society occurred in 2015 as a result of a significant donation from local couple, Cindy and Dave Higgins. The Higgins identified a need to not only expand the space for current programs, but also offer a more rigorous education option to community youth by creating a middle and high school.
The Palapa Society’s Response: Build, staff and operate a high quality, SEP-certified middle and high school in Todos Santos. Scholarships will be granted to students of merit who lack financial means, thus equalizing the playing field for all students to attend.
Where is the project today? All buildings are completed, a director and teachers have arrived, curriculum is in place and students walked through the door in Fall of 2017.
To keep this dream alive and support the Palapa Learning Center for the next generation, we need your help. Please give generously. Educating a child today is a gift of a lifetime.
