Organ Music from the Great War

Music for organ is probably not the first thing which comes to mind when you think of the music of the First World War. But there's a surprisingly large amount of organ music with connections to the war, ranging from patriotic marches and medleys to substantial tone poems and sonatas.

The aim of this channel is to help organists and music-lovers get to know some of this interesting and neglected music. I'm intending to upload recordings of several pieces each month throughout the period 2014-18. Most of the recordings will be made on the newly restored organ of the Whitworth Hall, University of Manchester. 

The music I'm recording falls into three main categories:
- works by composers who took part in the war
- pieces dedicated to the memory of soldiers who were killed in action
- music connected to the war through its genre, title, content or context
