The Agnes and Beny Steinmetz Foundation Contributes to a Strong, Healthy Society Through Education

Agnes and Beny Steinmetz (https://www.beny-steinmetz....) established the Agnes and Beny Steinmetz Foundation http://steinmetz-foundation... in 2006 with the goal of supporting educational opportunities for children in Israel, from early childhood all the way through college. Led by director Iris London-Zolty, the Steinmetz Foundation focuses on four areas of education: early childhood, after-school programs, college, and youth-at-risk. The foundation is not limited by race or religion—it helps Jews, Arabs, Ethiopians, Russians. Anyone who needs help can receive it.

    Early Childhood

The foundation supports the establishment of services for young children in city municipalities all over Israel. The first early childhood center was established in Netanya, and more than 15 other cities have adopted its model. The staff at these early childhood centers makes sure to involve parents in their children’s development, and in addition to teachers and assistants, there are also occupational therapists and clinicians on hand.

    After-School Activities

At the initiative of Agnes, the foundation supports seven after-school centers for children who come from underprivileged neighborhoods in Netanya. The centers are run in collaboration with the Help and Hope Foundation, and they provide young people with homework help, hands-on activities, a hot meal, and a warm, supportive environment.

The foundation awards scholarships each year to students at Netanya College. In exchange for the scholarship, the students commit to doing volunteer work, a lot of which is done at the foundation's after-school centers. Students who receive these scholarships rarely drop out of college, and professors report that they go on to become truly productive members of society.

The foundation supports non-profit organizations every year. These foundations help youth-at-risk in different ways, including interaction with animals, sports, film, beach activities, and more. Over 2,500 at-risk teens have been helped by organizations that receive funding from the Steinmetz Foundation.
No matter what the program, the message of the foundation is clear—through education, a person’s socioeconomic status can change, a child from the streets can come home, and everyone has something to contribute to society.
