• PEC cylinder buried in a lossless half-space (2D)

    1,935 views 2 years ago
Animation of electromagnetic wave propagation in an environment with a perfect electric conductor (PEC) cylinder buried in a lossless, homogeneous half-space of with a relative permittivity of six.

The red cell is a Hertzian dipole source (a line source in 2D) fed with a Ricker waveform with centre frequency 1.5GHz, and the blue cell is a receiver point. The transparent cells around the outside of the domain represent the Perfectly Matched Layer (PML) boundary regions. Further details of the model are available at http://docs.gprmax.com/en/l......

The simulation was made using gprMax (http://www.gprmax.com), and the animation made using ParaView (http://www.paraview.org).

gprMax is open source software that simulates electromagnetic wave propagation. It uses Yee's algorithm to solve Maxwell’s equations in 3D using the Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method.
It is designed for simulating Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) but can also be used to model electromagnetic wave propagation for many other applications. Show less
