Inspiration for the ONE Weekend event was partially taken from the previous success of the Keworth Carnival, which grew to attract 6,000 people by 1957. The last Kegworth Carnival was held in July, 1989 and it was a successful and vibrant event. With market stalls along the streets of Kegworth and a focal point in the Market Place, a wide range of activities were offered including donkey rides, fancy dress parades, float parades and judging, brass band music and vintage vehicle displays. It is unfortunate that the land used to host the Kegworth Carnival became unavailable for further events and the decision was made to close the event, especially with a lack of suitable alternative land for an event as large as it did evolve into.

In addition to this, the inspiration came from a vision to bring multiple smaller evens that occur in the village throughout the year to be brought together for a “ONE weekend” event. By promoting a collective event with contributions and events from local
