speech of Dr. Thomas Dürmeier
Many talk about competition, but few are committed to it. "That's why Dr. Thomas Dürmeier is not only committed against the planned merging of Bayer and Monsanto.
The economist spoke on Tuesday (14 November 2017) in front of 40 listeners in the Marburger Weltladen about the consequences of increasing concentration in the seed market. In the first quarter of 2018, a decision by the EU Commission is expected on the merging of the two agricultural and chemical giants. Before that, Dürmeier wants to put pressure on competition commissioner Margrethe Vestager in Brussels with his newly founded organization Goliathwatch.
"There is a very small chance of preventing this merging," he said. But he considers a success quite possible. It is important to put strong public pressure on the authorities not to approve the merger or only under strict conditions.
