Following the signing of a 42 billion shillings contract for the construction of the first three berths of the Lamu Port, construction has been set to commence next month.
The multi billion shillings Lamu Port Southern Sudan-Ethiopia Transport corridor project that is expected to cover Lamu, Moyale, Lokichar, Ethiopia, Uganda and South Sudan is promising to transform the fortunes of the locals. The LAPSSET project which is entirely based on infrastructure development and whose construction has already begun, will see the famed Lamu Island develop into a world class town as well as enhance the country's economic growth.
The Lamu Port Project is set to open up region to trade and investment. Kenya's GDP to expand by an extra 2-3%
