Strutt's North Mill in Belper was built in 1804 and is one of the oldest surviving examples of an industrialised, iron framed 'fire proof' building. Grade I listed, it forms part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site and is recognised as one of the most important buildings from the industrial revolution in the world. The museum tells stories of cotton spinning, stocking making, the Strutt family, the Belper Mill workers, innovation and hydropower, demonstrating how the small town of Belper was transformed into the world’s first factory community. The mill and museum are run by Strutt's North Mill Trust and a dedicated band of volunteers. Visit: www.belpernorthmill.org
