WASHINGTON, September 26 (Itar-Tass) - RIA Novosti . The Philippines sent a preliminary request to Russia for the purchase of Russian weapons, at the moment, the development of schemes for financing its supplies is underway, the Foreign Minister of the Philippines Alan Peter Kayetano told RIA Novosti.
"We sent a preliminary request for equipment (to Russia), which we need." We asked the Ministry of Finance (the Philippines) to help us work out the financial schemes for it, "he said.
He added that his country does not have many resources to ensure Russian supplies in a short time, but over time, the Philippines will do it and, thanks to these supplies, will receive a reliable defense system.
He also added that his department continues to prepare a visit of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to the Philippines and his meeting with President Rodrigo Duteret.
Earlier in early September, Philippine Ambassador to Russia Carlos Sorreta told RIA Novosti that an agreement on military-technical cooperation with Russia could be signed by November, before the visit of Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to the country.
The diplomat said that it remains to agree on some details, at the moment the parties are working on an agreement.
