Microalgae are single-cell organisms that first appeared on Earth around 3 billions years ago and created the atmosphere as we know it today. They are the first organisms that performed photosynthesis and are therefore the origin of all known plant-based life.
They are the reason why we have oxygen on Earth, and still today, microalgae living in the oceans provide us with over 60% of the oxygen we have. Also known as phytoplankton, they are the first link in the aquatic food chain.
However, since they are microscopic, we have not paid much attention to them…. until now, because we now know that they have great potential to improve our lives in many ways.
