The show was originally created and toured in 2010-11, then was revived in 2015 and toured England and Wales receiving five-star reviews and featuring in the Top 10 Dance of 2015 in The Guardian, The Observer and The Independent.
It has received a Special Commendation from the Royal Society of Public Health in recognition of its excellent contribution to Arts and health practice. In 2016, it was presented in Association with The Army in Scotland in theatres and Army drill halls receiving five-star reviews from The Scotsman and The Herald.
To create the piece, Rosie Kay began investigating the parallels between a dancer’s life and training and a soldier’s after experiencing a career-threatening injury. To fully understand the impact of war, Kay undertook an intense period of field research and visited a military rehabilitation centre to see the effects of conflict and training on the soldiers’ bodies. With her trademark of intense physicality and athleticism, this high-octane performance enables a glimpse into the training that prepares soldiers for the sheer physicality of combat, for the possibility of injury and the impact conflict has on the body.
For all performances:
• Age Guidance: 12+ contains violence
• Running time: 1 hr + post-show talk
• Saturday night community performance: approx. 10 mins
