dsmHack is a not-for-profit organization working to elevate and strengthen the community by building software, learning from each other and giving back. The organization centers around the idea of “Build.Learn.Give.”, which includes building technology solutions and relationships throughout the community, learning new skills or thought processes and giving time and skills to those non-profits who need, but cannot afford it.
The 48-hour hack-a-thon is planned by a committee of representatives from various companies throughout Des Moines and is not tied to a single organization or sponsor.

Nonprofit organizations face many barriers as they work to move forward the causes that they represent. Often, budgets are tight and the allowance for technology assistance is unobtainable. This problem is what led to the launch of dsmhack with our signature event: the Des Moines Charity Hack, an annual event that brings together technical resources with the nonprofits that make our community great.
The 2017 hack helped 10 local nonprofit organizations and involved over 85 technology professionals who donated their skills during the 48 hour hackathon.
