Marcin Stańczyk (b. 1977). He holds degrees from the University of Lodz (Faculty of Law - LL.M.), Academy of Music in Lodz (D.M.A and Habilitation in music theory and composition). He completed a three year post-graduate degree at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome and CURSUS 1 and 2 at Paris IRCAM. He received various prizes and scholarships and has been recognized by Reading Panel IRCAM, IMD Darmstadt, Royaumont, Jerwood, Laurentscantorij and Witold Lutosławski Foundations. His music, described by Ivan Fedele in the Il Giornale as "distorsionismo", has been commissioned and played by ensembles such as Ensemble Intercontemporain, Musikfabrik, Neue Vocalsolisten, Linea, Algoritmo, Nikel, Oslo Sinfonietta, Bang on a Can All-Stars, De ereprijs. He is the first, and so far only, Pole to win the prestigious Toru Takemitsu Award (2013). He has been nominated twice for the Coryphaeus of Polish Music Award and announced The City of Paris & French Institute Resident for 2014.
