The phab 2 PRO by Lenovo takes the best Augmented Reality (AR) in Tango by Google and puts it in a smartphone, the first in the world to do so. Augmented Reality as a whole and the phab 2 PRP especially were show-stoppers at CES Las Vegas this year.
The Apps and Games for the phab 2 PRO really drew people in, as they are insanely catchy and addictive for tech experts and non-techies alike. From Crayola Color Blaster to Hotwheels Track Builder they have some big brands getting in on the fun. While at CES I tried my hand at all of the games shown in the video, which includes creating an impromptu dance party with wrestlers and gorillas, having Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton go one more round (and pausing to pose for a pic with us), Slingshot Island, Domino World and more.
Lenovo's phab 2 PRO isn't just for gaming, the home design apps from Lowe's, Wayfair and more are revolutionary, and you'll see more industries grabbing hold of Augmented Reality each month. I learned of some solar system apps that I'm looking forward to exploring with my kids.
This AR technology being placed on a solid phone will definitely attract early adopters. It's a larger phone and a steeper price tag than many others, but I see more than just early-adopters purchasing this as it gives the ability to bring Augmented Reality anywhere you go, and Tango Augmented Reality by Google which is a cut above.
Later in 2017 Tango Augmented Reality will also be available for the Moto Z in the form of a Moto Mod. I'm a big fan of Moto Mods (such as the Hasselblad camera with 10x optical zoom, the JBL speaker, and the Insta-Share Projector). This will likely be another hot one once released.
