– THE SONG'S HISTORY: –
The duo has an extensive history together in songwriting & the songwriting process. Two years ago, while living in Los Angeles together, Oskar approached Julia with a hook & a chord progression – "Well it's all or nothing or it's all for nothing. Yeah, you've got it better with him... How long can this go on?"
He described, "It's a forbidden love song. Romeo & Juliet."
Living in a storage unit – more of a hole in the wall above the fridge – with a bed somehow fit into it, Julia stood, listening at the edge of its landing.
Oskar called up to her, singing these lyrics & waiting for a response or a suggestion.
Little did they know this song's premise would turn into their own forbidden love story.
A few months after the idea of this song was thought, Julia finally said it. "What is this? Are we just helping each other with our solo careers or are we a duo?"
They both knew this wasn't just a formal band initiation, but permission to give up the "we're just friends" act.
Days later, the now official duo told each other how they felt & began their career & life together as "Oskar & Julia".
They finished writing the song, "All or Nothing" after Oskar explained that he felt the song was about how he felt about Julia. Being able to finish a love song about you that you didn't know was about you – that's romance!
The next year, after performing "All or Nothing" at least 100 times across southern California, Oskar & Julia moved home to salt lake city, Utah, got married, & recorded their debut album, Wilshire Royale!
Over a year later, they were contacted by Rick McFarland, the founder of Fiftyfilms – a film company based in downtown SLC.
He asked the duo to come into his office & talk about potentially making a mutually-beneficial music video.
The screenplay McFarland had created & had in mind almost matched up with Oskar & Julia’s history & the actual story they've depicted in their lyrics.
Although not 100% accurate, the duo decided this "take" on their lyrics & the all-around instrumental feel of the music would fit well & ultimately tell the story of what happened in Oskar & Julia’s real lives.
The music video will debut on June 26th, 2017!
Oskar & Julia are grateful to everyone at Fiftyfilms & their families for helping make this project possible. Especially Rick McFarland for following Oskar & Julia’s journey closely online & taking a true interest in them & their music.
