The elders around me usually spend hours telling me their life stories and old tales from the past. Even as a 1 year old who can remember words that were spoken by elders who have passed away, I could recall old Taino words. At the age of six, I invented a language and an alphabet with numbers for my little sister so we would both only know it. I was afraid of leaving her alone at kindergarten because I thought bullies might hurt her. Having said that, I realize she was too young to learn a language, an alphabet, or a numbers. The dictionary of words and my creations are still in my possession. It has always been an interest of mine to learn to mimic the sounds of animals, which I sometimes set into my songs. My ears were constantly filled with music from the animals I admire and the beautiful stories I heard from my elders.
