We are really fortunate to have Dr. Tristan Denley, the Vice President for Academic Affairs for the University System of Georgia and noted retention specialist visiting UH Hilo all day Wednesday, Sept. 26th. Dr. Denley is known worldwide for his efforts to use data to improve college success for students. If you have any interest in making UH Hilo a better place, come to listen or talk with Dr. Denley. Dr. Denley is going to be a keynote speaker at the Complete College America event being held by the UH System on Oahu Thursday and Friday. We are the only campus he will be visiting on his trip. He is an amazing speaker and has a spectacular track record of using enrollment data to revise approaches to co-requisite learning, the role of Math and English in retention, the role of early identification of the right major, and advising. He has developed mathematical techniques to correlate clusters of courses that help identify majors for students as well as the main blocks to degree completion. Dr. Denley is a mathematician trained at Oxford University. He uses "Big Data" to track students progress through four-year programs and has spent considerable efforts analyzing this data to find the best ways to improve classes and pathways for students.
