Velocite RT50 Road Tubeless aero wheels durability, endurance and heat resistance testing on a computerized test rig with advanced real time monitoring and data logging abilities.

The Velocite RT50 wheels passed all the EN tests, in fact they exceeded the EN fatigue tests not by 10% or 20% but by 320%.

They also passed the sustained braking test : 70 cycles of brake application at 50km/h, dragging the brake for 130m with a 65kg load (per wheel, so equivalent to approx. 110 kg rider) decelerating to 15km/h then releasing the brake and accelerating again - 70 times. The temperature peaked at 129.4° C on the 7th cycle and remained stable for the rest of the cycles. This is the "Swiss Alps" descent test and represents the realistic peak of what should be observed under harshest riding conditions. The wheel was in an enclosed test chamber thus the increasing ambient temperature also reduced the convective cooling of the rims.

Finally we went and looked for the ultimate failure due to heat to establish the safety margin. The test involved performing a full stop of a 65kg load travelling at 20km/h, accelerating back to 20km/h and then immediately performing another full stop. The rims survived for 16 cycles of this torture before the braking surface distorted at 192.8° C. This gives us a significant safety margin of 33% beyond the harshest realistic riding/braking condition. Show less
