Publishing is at the centre of The Company's activities and it is proud of the five international journals that we produce. Established in 1925, The Company of Biologists publishes five journals: Development, Journal of Cell Science, The Journal of Experimental Biology, Disease Models & Mechanisms (DMM) and Biology Open (BiO). As well as the direct benefit that our journals provide to the research community, they yield income that, alongside a long-term policy of careful investment, is used to support a wide range of scientific activities, including grants for scientific meetings, workshops, conferences and travelling fellowships for students allowing skill-acquiring collaborative visits to other labs and attendance at research conferences.
In 2008, The Company also launched a series of fully-funded interdisciplinary workshops. The three-day workshops are held in informal retreat surroundings and provide leading experts and students from a diverse range of scientific backgrounds with a stimulating environment for the cross fertilisation of interdisciplinary ideas.

DMM also aims to promote the development of ideas, projects and collaborations among basic scientists, translational researchers and clinicians to support the growing translational emphasis in basic research.
