Welcome to the 8 x 6 Workshop. A fully functional woodwork and woodturning shop in just 48 square feet! Come on in and take a look around. Tell your friends. Like, share, subscribe.
There are no cupboards or draws, everything is hung on the walls using a French cleat system The whole workshop has been meticulously planned to utilise every square inch and any tool, nail or screw is immediately to hand.
In 1995 I constructed a building to house garden furniture and tools and general junk. Over the years it became overgrown, fell into disrepair and the roof eventually fell in. This soggy building was my starting point.
Peter, a good friend of mine dropped by to lend a hand and we cleared the area, gutted the building and everything, apart from the brick shell, went into the skip. By the end of the second day we had a new roof on!
A home made four inch extractor was built to fit under the main bench which services all the major power tools. Air quality and dust collection is paramount for such a small workshop and this was the first piece of kit to be completed.
The building has heat, light and power (and brew making facilities!) and is hooked up to the house alarm system and has two covert CCTV cameras watching over it.
The layout of the workshop will change over time as I fine tune the tool positions and make the use of the limited space more efficiently. The format will change according to the projects I end up making the most so the French Cleat system will let me move anything anywhere until I find the optimum layout.
