3 minutes with Panikos L. Livadhiotis, Managing Director of Lefteris Livadhiotis & Sons.
What is your greatest accomplishment?
Even though this unprecedented recession has ravaged the real estate property sector in general, and our company, we managed to come out of this challenge healthy and strong, and to overcome all problems.
Do you have any regrets concerning business decisions that you took?
I did not put more effort into conveying to more business persons the vision of Larnaca, so that they, too, believe in our city. Had I managed to put across this vision, perhaps the city of Larnaca would have been by 50% more upgraded than it is today.
Which personality do you admire the most?
I admire Chahe A. Yerevanian, owner of Sayfco Holdings in Lebanon, who is also a second generation land developer. He has managed to create a versatile giant, utilising the experience of the first generation and the social networking arsenal of the second generation. He created his enormous success, while, at the same time, his company is devoted to charity related activities.
What piece of advice would you give to yourself 20 years ago?
I would advise myself to enjoy more the journey, rather than maintaining the obsession I have about the destination, Ithaca.
If you were the president, which decision would you take first?
If I were the president of the Republic, I would place all my ministers in one room and tell them that no one could leave unless they found a way to have title deeds issued immediately upon the signing of the contract. This would bring an end to all the complications and problems this country is facing, the common denominator of which is the title deed.
How do you achieve a work/life balance?
“The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his education and his religion. He hardly knows which is which; he simply pursues his vision of excellence no matter what, leaving others to wonder whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both.”
Once a week, at least, I swim from my house to the office; it’s a distance of approximately 3 km, which I swim while carrying everything that I will need to continue my day at the office. People think it’s crazy, even my friends, who know me, think I am crazy and unreasonable. In my opinion, this is something that reminds me of how we should always exceed the limits imposed by what we consider to be reasonable or acceptable, and that’s what I am doing.
What was the last book you read?
The book I read most recently was, again, by Robin Sharma, titled “The Leader Who Had No Title”. I believe it is an excellent book, which every businessman or leading person must read, as it reflects the actual truth: that we do not need to have a title in order to lead.
