Jef Forward of Ann Arbor's Forward Design Build Remodel walks through the first floor of our Whole House Remodel on Independence Lake. It features a dramatic stone fireplace, a kitchen relocation and bump-out, and amazing views now that the floor plan is wide open!
Hello, this is Jef Forward of Forward Design Build Remodel. Today we'll be introducing a new project we're working on, which will be featured on our Guts to Glory Tour coming up in the next month (9/23/18).
This house sits on a lake, and the existing plan did not really capture the views of the lake. This is also a house that was built by our client's grandparents, so it holds a lot of emotional value to them.
At the centerpiece of that is this huge stone fireplace. Previously there used to be a wall right here, so it was closed off in its own room. So we are opening this entire plan up and really introducing this into the kitchen, which was here and now we've moved over here.
The really fun part of this project - the subtle, little change - is that we put on a tiny four-foot addition this way. We were able to do that under the existing roofline and utilizing the existing steel beam that was already there. A real no-brainer in terms of finding some extra space. What that does is it allows us to create a new circulation path for a full 360 view around this beautiful fireplace.
So we look forward to posting more and showing you how this project develops! Thank you.
