Today is Q&A Tuesday where today's' Q comes from Ms. Monica and she writes " I have an upcoming Birthday celebration in the Dominican Republic and I'm concerned with the recent deaths. Should I still travel to DR"?
Now honestly if I were you, I probably wouldn't go right now, I would postpone it and go to another destination.
To give you a bit more information, the US State Department has issued a Level 2 Travel Advisory on travel to DR. Now there are 4 levels and I'll explain all 4.
Level 1: Exercise Normal Precautions
Level 2: Exercise Increased Precautions
Level 3: Reconsider Travel
Level 4: Molly, you in a danger girl. (Do Not Travel)
Before you travel abroad consider purchasing travel insurance just in case you need to cancel so you don't lose all of your travel investment and also consider enrolling in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program which will help you:
• Receive important information from the Embassy about safety conditions in your destination country, helping you make informed decisions about your travel plans.
• Help the U.S. Embassy contact you in an emergency, whether natural disaster, civil unrest, or family emergency.
• Help family and friends get in touch with you in an emergency.
If you do decide to go to DR then I wouldn't drink from the room mini bars and watch your bartenders while they make your drinks. Monica, I hope this helps you make an informed decision and be safe wherever you travel to.
