The tech industry is one that’s cottoned on to the storytelling value of social media pretty well. After all, technology is one of the biggest stories of the 21st century!
However, one thing that many tech companies struggle with is creating global content for their international audiences.
Too often, stories aren’t tailored to the specific needs of local audiences, which can cause your message to fall flat.
This video will look at three ways you can improve your social media storytelling and succeed with it internationally.
Firstly, accept that not everyone is at the same technological moment in time.
Technology doesn’t work the same for everyone around the world.
There are countries like South Korea and Japan that are ahead of the game, countries like the US, China and Australia that are catching up with them, countries like France and India on the next step, and so on.
This means that each market will have some unique difference with how it uses technology.
The key is to find this difference and then create content around it.
Secondly, remember to create local customer stories.
It’s essential to tailor your customer stories to your markets.
The temptation can sometimes be to just show off your biggest clients to all your markets, but the risk here is that you could alienate potential clients in smaller markets.
If you only talk about your biggest customers, then smaller and medium sized businesses may not feel they are big enough to work with you.
And finally, put your company’s values into a local perspective.
Every company has its own carefully constructed set of values.
Apple’s, for example, is built around inclusion. You might think that inclusion means the same thing everywhere, but it doesn’t.
For some places, equality between the sexes is the biggest issue, but multicultural countries might put more emphasis on including certain ethnic groups, and in other places the LGBT community might be the first group that people think about when they think about inclusion.
Knowing what matters most in each country can really help you to create the best content for each market.
