Taekkyeon (Taekkyun/Taekkyon) is one of the most refined martial arts of Korea. The origin of Taekkyeon goes back to 2000 years ago. Taekkyeon is well known for its variety of kicking skills and smooth and rhythmic, yet fast and powerful movement.
Taekkyeon barely survived under the oppression by the Japanese Colonialism (1910-1945). Only by the late Grandmaster Song Deok Ki (1893~1987), who was later recognized by the Korean government as the holder of Widae Taekkyeon, the 76th Important Intangible Cultural Property, Taekkyeon could maintain its form.
