just for today just to see what the competition </text><text start="22.24" dur="5.2">has to offer i've heard some good things about
it i've heard that it's using the latest GNOME </text><text start="28" dur="5.52">version of 42. let's have a look and see what
it's like shall we so i've got it running on my </text><text start="33.52" dur="8.4">mac mini it's really crummy hardware it's running
on a mechanical hard drive i will probably install </text><text start="41.92" dur="3.84">it onto this at some point just to see if we
can squeeze some more performance out of it </text><text start="47.52" dur="4.32">i don't know it depends we'll see how it goes
so let's have a quick look at what we've got </text><text start="51.84" dur="4.72">so here it is here's the the shell let's have a
look of what's installed so i've installed a few </text><text start="56.56" dur="5.68">applications on it already just to have a quick
nose around so let's have a quick look at this.</text><text start="64.32" dur="4">We've got fish on there yeah we have look at
that great brilliant so let's get rid of that we </text><text start="68.32" dur="7.12">don't need that i'm not the hugest fan of of GNOME
i'll be honest it i don't know it just feels very </text><text start="76.96" dur="6.08">convoluted and clunky but in all honesty this
version seems a bit better but we'll have a </text><text start="83.04" dur="4.64">look so i've installed some of the stuff
that i would probably use in my day-to-day </text><text start="89.36" dur="5.92">working so we've got audacity let's
check that out is it going to launch </text><text start="96.24" dur="3.6">is it yes it is there we go
audacity is running i believe </text><text start="102.72" dur="7.84">302 so that's the latest stable i believe
big thing for me was to install chrome </text><text start="111.44" dur="6.72">and here it is i wish they would release this
for freebsd would make things so much easier</text><text start="121.2" dur="3.12">let's have a look i wonder what
version this is because obviously </text><text start="124.32" dur="4.72">version 100 just came out what version is this</text><text start="131.92" dur="3.76">100 look at that that's cool that's really good</text><text start="138.32" dur="4.8">apologies for the dodgy audio for some
reason audio through hdmi is just not </text><text start="143.12" dur="12.72">capturing very well but you know so be
it so there we go chrome working well</text><text start="158.96" dur="8.16">yep chrome working fairly well i get the feeling
that this hardware has only got a 100 meg </text><text start="167.12" dur="6.64">nick in it as well so that would make it
quite slow um actually let's have a quick </text><text start="173.76" dur="10.08">look see what hardware we've got in this
because it is like i said it's quite crummy</text><text start="188.8" dur="9.28">yeah look at that see as i thought so
we've got a core 2 duo at 2.4 gigahertz</text><text start="198.08" dur="5.92">that has got nvidia graphics
geforce 3 2 0 m so that </text><text start="205.52" dur="4.24">kind of explains why i wasn't getting it to
work very well on on other operating systems </text><text start="210.48" dur="7.92">there was me thinking it was in intel
but it's not but uh yeah so like i said </text><text start="219.36" dur="7.44">crummy hardware where was we so let's have
a quick look at the other bits um obs studio</text><text start="230.72" dur="3.44">i would need this for my day-to-day stuff</text><text start="236.72" dur="3.12">so there we go that's good</text><text start="246.16" dur="7.68">so obs studio</text><text start="258.64" dur="3.04">so we've got libra office
let's have a look at that</text><text start="264.72" dur="3.12">yeah there we go libra office</text><text start="269.84" dur="0.88">hello world</text><text start="276.32" dur="7.2">seven three one three yeah nice
now don't save that don't save that</text><text start="289.12" dur="3.44">now davinci resolve so i
could get away with dumping </text><text start="293.84" dur="6.24">all the adobe stuff and using davinci
resolve if it runs is it gonna run</text><text start="302.16" dur="6.56">i would suspect not on this hardware it's probably
just gonna go which is what it's done look at that </text><text start="308.72" dur="6.8">it's just gone away okay fine i suspect that
wouldn't happen if i was to run it on decent </text><text start="315.52" dur="8.32">hardware i might actually try installing this
on on a an ssd in my main pc and see what we get</text><text start="329.2" dur="0.72">rhythm box</text><text start="333.44" dur="4.88">so there we go there's the main bits that
i would um probably get away with using</text><text start="340.88" dur="0.4">yeah</text><text start="343.68" dur="1.2">well if there's vlc</text><text start="347.6" dur="0.96">yeah of course there is</text><text start="350.8" dur="1.04">we'll install that</text><text start="356.96" dur="8.88">just trying to think of what else
we could actually install on here</text><text start="366.48" dur="1.6">okay go away then we don't want to</text><text start="372.64" dur="7.2">worry too much about that i wonder
if i could install kaden live</text><text start="402.16" dur="0.64">maybe i can</text><text start="406.88" dur="8.56">i certainly don't think that kaden live at this
point could um replace what i'm used to using uh</text><text start="417.92" dur="0.72">maybe it could</text><text start="421.2" dur="1.76">just not for me at the moment</text><text start="429.84" dur="3.2">so yeah there we go that's um</text><text start="435.2" dur="5.84">fedora i don't like this background and i don't
