and welcome back to another video. </text><text start="2.786" dur="4.572"> Now, in today's episode,
we're going to be taking a look at MorphOS, </text><text start="7.358" dur="2.636"> which is a pretty interesting
and unique operating system </text><text start="9.994" dur="3.47"> because it serves a very
niche market in the modern day. </text><text start="13.464" dur="3.57"> This is an OS that is still
actively maintained and developed </text><text start="17.034" dur="3.603"> that's designed for certain
PowerPC-based machines, </text><text start="20.637" dur="2.47"> and its roots lie in AmigaOS. </text><text start="23.107" dur="4.337"> In fact, MorphOS is considered to
be an AmigaOS-like operating system, </text><text start="27.444" dur="3.003"> and AmigaOS is kind of a
whole 'nother can of worms </text><text start="30.447" dur="3.304"> that would probably be saved
to go down in a separate video. </text><text start="33.751" dur="3.203"> But what you need to know is that
MorphOS was originally designed </text><text start="36.954" dur="4.004"> for certain Amiga computers that
had an accelerator card installed, </text><text start="40.958" dur="2.569"> which contained a
PowerPC processor. </text><text start="43.527" dur="3.37"> Now, when you think of PowerPC,
there's a good chance you think of Macs, </text><text start="46.897" dur="4.138"> because Apple used the architecture
in their machines beginning in the 1990s </text><text start="51.035" dur="3.003"> and lasting until the Intel
transition in the mid-2000s. </text><text start="54.038" dur="3.636"> So, you probably won't find it surprising
that MorphOS was eventually made </text><text start="57.674" dur="3.204"> to be installed on
PowerPC Macs as well. </text><text start="60.878" dur="3.603"> In fact, out of the 11 computers
listed as officially compatible </text><text start="64.481" dur="3.804"> with MorphOS on the website,
7 of them are Macs. </text><text start="68.285" dur="2.569"> And we've got one of
those computers right here, </text><text start="70.854" dur="2.636"> of course it's my
 Power Mac G4 Cube, </text><text start="73.49" dur="3.637"> that I actually last
powered on in 2021 </text><text start="77.127" dur="2.503"> when we installed
Ubuntu Linux on this thing. </text><text start="79.63" dur="5.405"> So, we are going to pop in the
MorphOS installation disc right here. </text><text start="86.837" dur="4.171"> And we're just going to reboot the
system and begin the installation process. </text><text start="91.008" dur="3.37"> And yes, we are going to
overwrite the existing Ubuntu install </text><text start="94.378" dur="3.704"> and just do a clean install of
MorphOS and see what it has to offer. </text><text start="98.082" dur="2.869"> This is actually going to be
my first time taking a look at this. </text><text start="100.951" dur="1.802"> I have not explored
this off-camera, </text><text start="102.753" dur="2.969"> so this is going to be a new
experience for me as well. </text><text start="105.722" dur="3.471"> But from what I've looked at,
this operating system looks pretty cool, </text><text start="109.193" dur="1.701"> because it's kind
of its own thing. </text><text start="110.894" dur="4.838"> In fact, the OS states that this is a
mostly proprietary operating system, </text><text start="115.732" dur="2.803"> though it does have a few
open source components. </text><text start="118.535" dur="2.303"> But it is a commercial
operating system. </text><text start="120.838" dur="2.369"> This is not free,
you do have to pay for it. </text><text start="123.207" dur="3.236"> I believe a license
 costs around 79 euros. </text><text start="126.443" dur="5.205"> However, there is a free 30-minute
trial period that you can utilize, </text><text start="131.648" dur="2.837"> and it's actually how
you have to install the OS. </text><text start="134.485" dur="2.435"> And there we go,
the monitor is lying to us. </text><text start="136.92" dur="1.402"> It says it cannot
display this video mode, </text><text start="138.322" dur="2.068"> but it is displaying the video. </text><text start="140.39" dur="2.603"> Uh, but...
so that's kind of funny. </text><text start="142.993" dur="4.972"> But, uh, yeah. Oh, it's definitely
 on a super high resolution here. </text><text start="147.965" dur="2.536"> Um, that's why it's...
oh my gosh, this is quite... </text><text start="150.501" dur="2.469"> Yeah, this is because of
the capture card that I've got, </text><text start="152.97" dur="3.803"> the VGA signal split between
that and the monitor here. </text><text start="156.773" dur="3.871"> So, uh, yeah,
we definitely need to change that somehow. </text><text start="160.644" dur="1.368"> Can we go... </text><text start="162.012" dur="2.836"> Okay, is there a way to
change the resolution, like, </text><text start="164.848" dur="2.87"> without going through the
setup and waiting for it to install? </text><text start="167.718" dur="2.803"> Okay, English,
American key map, okay. </text><text start="170.521" dur="2.335"> Actually,
 I believe this is a live CD, </text><text start="172.856" dur="2.77"> so, yeah,
we can just hit "Browse CD" here. </text><text start="175.626" dur="2.068"> And yeah,
these are the contents of the CD, </text><text start="177.694" dur="2.536"> so we should be able to go... </text><text start="180.23" dur="4.371"> Uh, if I can find where the settings are,
that would be super nice. </text><text start="184.601" dur="1.769"> Oh, here, "Settings," "System." </text><text start="186.37" dur="1.835"> Okay, here we go, here we go. </text><text start="188.205" dur="3.971"> "Screens," um,
we want to edit this. </text><text start="192.176" dur="2.769"> There we go,
 that's a lot better. </text><text start="194.945" dur="3.37"> Oh, my gosh, I can actually,
like, see what's on the screen </text><text start="198.315" dur="1.902">everything was
so tiny before. </text><text start="200.217" dur="1.835"> But yeah, so, you know,
if you just wanted to, like, </text><text start="202.052" dur="2.703"> try out MorphOS a little bit
and get a feel for what it is, </text><text start="204.755" dur="1.768"> you could just kind
of explore it here. </text><text start="206.523" dur="1.869"> But we're, of course,
going to go through with the installation, </text><text start="208.392" dur="2.035"> although now I've
closed out of the... </text><text start="210.727" dur="1.769"> I've closed out
 of the installer. </text><text start="212.796" dur="2.236"> So, let's...
We've got to find where that is. </text><text start="215.032" dur="2.035"> This is off to a wonderful start,
 isn't it? </text><text start="217.067" dur="0.601"> Jeez. </text><text start="217.668" dur="4.237"> You would think they would have,
like, a big install icon on the desktop </text><text start="221.905" dur="2.336"> or just not let you
 close out of the installer, </text><text start="224.241" dur="2.402"> because I literally don't...
Like, where do we have to go? </text><text start="226.643" dur="1.607"> Applications, maybe? </text><text start="228.25" dur="2.331"> Ummmmmm... </text><text start="230.581" dur="1.101"> No, no, no, no, no. </text><text start="231.682" dur="2.135"> Where is the
 freaking installer at? </text><text start="233.817" dur="0.768"> Tools? </text><text start="234.585" dur="1.366"> There it is, installer. </text><text start="235.986" dur="1.435"> That's not the same thing. </text><text start="237.421" dur="1.935"> Maybe iWizard, is this it? </text><text start="239.356" dur="1.602"> Like, "i" for install? </text><text start="240.958" dur="1.735"> Nope, that's not it. </text><text start="242.693" dur="1.535"> "WB Startup." </text><text start="244.228" dur="1.368"> Is it "First Flight"? </text><text start="245.596" dur="1.768"> There it is, there it is. </text><text start="247.364" dur="1.034"> Okay. </text><text start="248.398" dur="3.337"> All right, so,
 let's go to this installation. </text><text start="251.735" dur="1.535"> Oh, okay, this is... </text><text start="253.27" dur="1.969"> Okay, so, it was iWizard. </text><text start="255.239" dur="1.768"> This... I just closed out of it, </text><text start="257.007" dur="2.302"> because it wasn't that
initial window that we got. </text><text start="259.309" dur="1.702"> So, it is iWizard in there. </text><text start="261.011" dur="0.701"> Okay, great. </text><text start="261.712" dur="2.435"> iWizard allows you to
pre-configure various system settings, </text><text start="264.147" dur="3.137"> set up network accesses,
partition disks, blah, blah, blah. </text><text start="267.284" dur="3.303"> If you were running MorphOS,
like a prior version, </text><text start="270.587" dur="1.969"> you could go with the
update option down here. </text><text start="272.556" dur="2.636"> Of course, that's grayed out for us,
 because we don't have one. </text><text start="275.192" dur="1.435"> So,
 we're going to go "New Installation," </text><text start="276.627" dur="1.735"> "US," "English," that's fine. </text><text start="278.362" dur="2.002"> Okay, so,
we could have just gone through the wizard, </text><text start="280.364" dur="2.669"> and it would give us the
option to change our resolution </text><text start="283.033" dur="1.768"> and display settings as well. </text><text start="284.801" dur="1.535"> So,
we didn't really have to do any of that </text><text start="286.336" dur="1.468"> that I just went through, </text><text start="287.804" dur="1.735"> and then made everything
 more complicated. </text><text start="289.539" dur="1.335"> Okay. </text><text start="290.874" dur="2.403"> Yes, date and time,
 that's correct. </text><text start="293.277" dur="2.569"> And, yeah,
we'll go the American key map. </text><text start="295.846" dur="3.403"> Mouse speed,
we'll leave it kind of at the default. </text><text start="299.249" dur="2.102"> Oh,
we got some different options here. </text><text start="301.351" dur="1.535"> I do like this red one. </text><text start="302.886" dur="0.901"> Yeah,
we're going to go with that, </text><text start="303.787" dur="1.768"> though that looks to
be the default anyways. </text><text start="305.555" dur="1.102"> So, all right, next. </text><text start="306.657" dur="2.335"> I do have an Ethernet
cable plugged into this thing, </text><text start="308.992" dur="2.803"> so, it's recognizing that here,
which is great. </text><text start="311.795" dur="2.135"> We're just going to go
with the automatic option, </text><text start="313.93" dur="1.669"> because it does recommend that </text><text start="315.599" dur="2.369"> if you're installing it for the first time,
which I am. </text><text start="317.968" dur="2.769"> One thing of note is
there's no progress bar </text><text start="320.737" dur="2.136"> or any sort of
indication as to like </text><text start="322.873" dur="1.635"> how long it's going to take </text><text start="324.508" dur="2.502"> or where it's at in
the copying process. </text><text start="327.01" dur="1.769"> It does have a thing down here </text><text start="328.779" dur="2.569"> of how many files
that it's copied over </text><text start="331.348" dur="2.302"> and how many
 kilobytes worth of files </text><text start="333.65" dur="0.868"> that it's copied over, </text><text start="334.518" dur="1.968"> but, you know,
it doesn't tell you the total, </text><text start="336.486" dur="4.071"> so, we don't know exactly
what that's going to be. </text><text start="340.557" dur="0.968"> And, would you look at that? </text><text start="341.525" dur="1.802"> It did not take long at all, </text><text start="343.327" dur="2.302"> like not even a
minute or two went by </text><text start="345.629" dur="2.302"> since I last spoke to you guys. </text><text start="347.931" dur="2.136"> So, yeah, we'll say okay, </text><text start="350.067" dur="2.902"> and I guess we
just got to restart. </text><text start="352.969" dur="3.504"> So, we'll close out of this,
 we'll eject the CD, </text><text start="356.473" dur="1.435"> and we'll just go to, </text><text start="357.908" dur="2.702"> let's see, how do we restart? </text><text start="360.61" dur="2.737"> Shut down, reboot, there we go. </text><text start="363.347" dur="1.101"> So, there's the boot screen. </text><text start="364.448" dur="1.801"> Pretty simple, nice looking. </text><text start="366.249" dur="3.07"> It also has, oh no,
it reset the resolution again. </text><text start="369.319" dur="1.502"> Oh my gosh. [Bleep] </text><text start="370.821" dur="1.368"> What on earth is it doing now? </text><text start="372.189" dur="2.602"> Look at this,
it's like the entire screen </text><text start="374.791" dur="1.735"> like put up into a corner. </text><text start="376.526" dur="3.037"> Oh, geez, okay,
so let's go to utilities. </text><text start="379.563" dur="4.304"> Let's go to, or no,
 settings, system, </text><text start="383.867" dur="2.669"> and we'll have to
 modify this again. </text><text start="386.536" dur="1.535"> Okay, that's a lot better. </text><text start="388.071" dur="3.804"> So, here we are,
here is MorphOS in all of its glory. </text><text start="391.875" dur="2.636"> And like I said,
I have not used this before, </text><text start="394.511" dur="1.368"> I've not explored this before. </text><text start="395.879" dur="1.168"> This is kind of
one of those videos </text><text start="397.047" dur="2.102"> where I just wanted
to go into it blindly </text><text start="399.149" dur="2.936"> just to kind of experience
this for the first time. </text><text start="402.085" dur="3.203"> One thing that is rather
interesting and kind of odd </text><text start="405.288" dur="1.902"> is the way this menu
bar works up here. </text><text start="407.19" dur="3.437"> So, you have to right
click to get these options, </text><text start="410.627" dur="3.403"> and then you get kind of
like you have in MacOS </text><text start="414.03" dur="1.302"> where you've got

 yeah, </text><text start="424.908" dur="2.336"> then you can go here, My MorphOS, </text><text start="427.244" dur="2.402"> there's a little file
