What helped us a lot was that we have established from the start, from the outbreaka very good collaboration and discussion with the UN agencies, the UN resident coordinator,which allowed us also to have quick access to the Presidential Task Forcethat is leading to the response,as well as the Nigerian Centre for Disease Controlwhich is technically in the leads of responding to the crisis.We are at more than 12 thousand of positive cases,and more than 300 people that have died.However, we must also admit that this is probably a huge underestimatebecause the level of testing is not adequate yet.Test kits are still lacking.Many infrastructures are still lacking.They had to equip and prepare all the laboratories,all the isolation centres, there was a huge lack of beds to treat patients.So all this has required a huge efforts from the Nigerian authorities.And still, we think that it will be a long crisis, still for many months to come.Because the rate of testing is so slow.And of course, this is a big populated country.200 million people.So the challenges are enormous, the health sector is usually underfunded.Also to deal with the socio-economic impact of the crisis which was further exacerbatedby declining oil prices.So the whole economic situation is also very bad at the moment.The UN was thinking of setting up a basket fund for the COVID-19 response.We signed the contribution agreement with the UN, and five days later,the first projects were approved by the board of the basket fund.So that is our main activity, put together extremely fast.
