from the start, from the outbreak</text><text start="48.28" dur="8.7">a very good collaboration and discussion with
the UN agencies, the UN resident coordinator,</text><text start="57.06" dur="6.52">which allowed us also to
have quick access to the Presidential Task Force</text><text start="63.58" dur="2.64">that is leading to the response,</text><text start="66.22" dur="4.74">as well as the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control</text><text start="70.96" dur="4.16">which is technically in the leads of responding to the crisis.</text><text start="79.36" dur="3.64">We are at more than 12 thousand of positive
cases,</text><text start="83" dur="3.78">and more than 300 people that have died.</text><text start="86.78" dur="6.12">However, we must also admit that this is probably a huge underestimate</text><text start="92.9" dur="4.86">because the level of testing is not adequate yet.</text><text start="97.84" dur="3.76">Test kits are still lacking.</text><text start="101.6" dur="2.95">Many infrastructures are still lacking.</text><text start="104.55" dur="5.92">They had to equip and prepare all the laboratories,</text><text start="110.47" dur="8.8">all the isolation centres, there was a huge
lack of beds to treat patients.</text><text start="119.27" dur="6.51">So all this has required a huge
efforts from the Nigerian authorities.</text><text start="125.78" dur="8.16">And still, we think that it will be a long
crisis, still for many months to come.</text><text start="133.94" dur="2.909">Because the rate of testing is so slow.</text><text start="136.849" dur="5.271">And of course, this is a big populated country.</text><text start="142.12" dur="1.38">200 million people.</text><text start="143.5" dur="7.26">So the challenges are enormous, the health
sector is usually underfunded.</text><text start="150.76" dur="7.7">Also to deal with the socio-economic impact
of the crisis which was further exacerbated</text><text start="158.46" dur="2.88">by declining oil prices.</text><text start="161.34" dur="6.64">So the whole economic situation is also very
bad at the moment.</text><text start="172.06" dur="6.34">The UN was thinking of setting up a basket
fund for the COVID-19 response.</text><text start="178.4" dur="4.06">We signed the contribution agreement with
the UN, and five days later,</text><text start="182.46" dur="4.95">the first projects were approved by the board of the basket fund.</text><text start="187.41" dur="4.45">So that is our main activity, put together
extremely fast.</text></transcript>
