the</text><text start="24.08" dur="4.56">screenshots do look good and it looks</text><text start="26.72" dur="5.6">like they have three main editions they</text><text start="28.64" dur="6.32">have kde plasma gnome and xfce according</text><text start="32.32" dur="4.48">to their website it looks like kde is</text><text start="34.96" dur="4.48">the flagship edition so i'm going to go</text><text start="36.8" dur="5.439">ahead and download that the iso for</text><text start="39.44" dur="4.959">their kde plasma edition is 2.8</text><text start="42.239" dur="3.681">gigabytes in start="48.239" dur="4.241">give you my first impressions of xero</text><text start="50.079" dur="4.48">linux inside a virtual machine</text><text start="52.48" dur="4.16">so i've booted into xero linux here</text><text start="54.559" dur="4.241">inside a virtual machine this vm i gave</text><text start="56.64" dur="5.759">six gigs of ram i gave it two threads of</text><text start="58.8" dur="6.159">space in this vm 25 gigs should be more</text><text start="73.84" dur="5.04">than enough for most linux distributions</text><text start="76.799" dur="4.161">so i'm gonna go ahead and choose uh the</text><text start="78.88" dur="4.4">start xero linux installer here from</text><text start="80.96" dur="4.4">their welcome screen</text><text start="83.28" dur="4.479">and this is the calamares installer it's</text><text start="85.36" dur="4.96">a very familiar installer it's one that</text><text start="87.759" dur="4.72">most linux distributions use these days</text><text start="90.32" dur="3.68">we get the welcome screen which you can</text><text start="92.479" dur="3.361">change the language if you need to</text><text start="94" dur="4.56">choose something other than american</text><text start="95.84" dur="4.08">english for me american english is fine</text><text start="98.56" dur="3.599">so let me move my head out of the way</text><text start="99.92" dur="5.36">and i'm going to choose next and then we</text><text start="102.159" dur="5.041">get the core and this is i guess uh</text><text start="105.28" dur="3.839">where we can choose what kernel it says</text><text start="107.2" dur="4.239">stock arch kernel and that's the one i</text><text start="109.119" dur="5.521">want let's see we could also go ahead</text><text start="111.439" dur="5.121">and install intel gpu drivers amd gpu</text><text start="114.64" dur="3.6">drivers here in this vm everything</text><text start="116.56" dur="3.76">should be open sourced and part of the</text><text start="118.24" dur="4.32">kernel so i don't think i need to worry</text><text start="120.32" dur="4.399">about video drivers so i'm not going to</text><text start="122.56" dur="4.08">take on any of this extra stuff i'm just</text><text start="124.719" dur="4.481">going to go ahead and click next on this</text><text start="126.64" dur="6">and then other packages android and ios</text><text start="129.2" dur="5.36">tools add support for android and ios uh</text><text start="132.64" dur="4.48">in this vm i'm not gonna bother audio</text><text start="134.56" dur="5.2">and music tools well let's see what</text><text start="137.12" dur="5.6">audio and music to assist audio players</text><text start="139.76" dur="5.28">converters and editors do i get a list</text><text start="142.72" dur="4.64">if i click the arrow yes</text><text start="145.04" dur="4.16">we get lists and then audio players i</text><text start="147.36" dur="4.32">guess by default it was going to install</text><text start="149.2" dur="4.08">them all i definitely don't want that</text><text start="151.68" dur="3.52">but i don't mind</text><text start="153.28" dur="4.319">we'll just do something lightweight</text><text start="155.2" dur="5.44">audacious is fine g music browser is not</text><text start="157.599" dur="5.681">bad i do like radio tray as well like i</text><text start="160.64" dur="4.959">i could do some of these audio editors</text><text start="163.28" dur="3.679">uh well let's see what they offer so let</text><text start="165.599" dur="2.961">me get the list</text><text start="166.959" dur="3.841">audacity is still here and that's going</text><text start="168.56" dur="4.48">to be the older version of audacity that</text><text start="170.8" dur="4.64">arch is still shipping with the one pre</text><text start="173.04" dur="4.479">telemetry so typically i'd probably</text><text start="175.44" dur="5.12">install that or install one of the</text><text start="177.519" dur="5.281">audacity forks or door is here as well</text><text start="180.56" dur="3.759">but for purposes of saving time i'm not</text><text start="182.8" dur="2.64">going to install any of this stuff</text><text start="184.319" dur="3.121">because i'm not going to be editing</text><text start="185.44" dur="4.879">software in this vm i'm not going to</text><text start="187.44" dur="5.2">convert any audio as well and then the</text><text start="190.319" dur="4.401">other audio tools</text><text start="192.64" dur="4.08">things that you can use to change</text><text start="194.72" dur="4.159">metadata and stuff like that i'll turn</text><text start="196.72" dur="5.68">all of that off this is actually really</text><text start="198.879" dur="6">cool so i've seen a similar setup with</text><text start="202.4" dur="4.64">arco linux orco linux has a they use the</text><text start="204.879" dur="4.161">calamari's installer and allow you to</text><text start="207.04" dur="3.919">install a lot of extra packages right</text><text start="209.04" dur="4.24">here in the installer up front saving</text><text start="210.959" dur="5.36">you time and i'm assuming that's what</text><text start="213.28" dur="5.36">zero linux is also doing is uh they're</text><text start="216.319" dur="4.48">they're trying to do the uh the arco</text><text start="218.64" dur="3.92">method here with the calamari's</text><text start="220.799" dur="3.36">installer and i love that because i</text><text start="222.56" dur="3.599">think it's one of the things that makes</text><text start="224.159" dur="3.841">arco a really great distribution so i'm</text><text start="226.159" dur="4.401">really happy that xero linux is</text><text start="228" dur="4.319">following the same path here let me put</text><text start="230.56" dur="4.239">my head back on the screen i'm going to</text><text start="232.319" dur="4.401">move this over and just quickly</text><text start="234.799" dur="3.921">i'm assuming that they're going to ship</text><text start="236.72" dur="4">a default suite of applications like</text><text start="238.72" dur="3.04">this is just if i want extra stuff i'm</text><text start="240.72" dur="2.32">assuming</text><text start="241.76" dur="3.92">so i'm actually</text><text start="243.04" dur="4.479">not going to install any extra stuff</text><text start="245.68" dur="4.32">because i want to see what they actually</text><text start="247.519" dur="4.481">ship with without me choosing anything</text><text start="250" dur="4.08">extra so i'm just going to choose next</text><text start="252" dur="3.92">the time zone calamaris has figured out</text><text start="254.08" dur="4.48">i'm in the central time zone in the us</text><text start="255.92" dur="4.159">i'll just click next english us is my</text><text start="258.56" dur="3.84">keyboard layout so i don't need to</text><text start="260.079" dur="3.84">change that i'll click next and then</text><text start="262.4" dur="3.6">what do we want to do with the disk i</text><text start="263.919" dur="5.201">want to erase the disk and give the</text><text start="266" dur="5.52">entire 25 gigabyte virtual disk</text><text start="269.12" dur="5.76">to zero linux it looks like it's going</text><text start="271.52" dur="5.44">to create a butter fs file system and we</text><text start="274.88" dur="4.24">have the choice of doing no swap which</text><text start="276.96" dur="4.72">typically in a vm i would do no swap</text><text start="279.12" dur="4.32">there's no reason to have a swap in a vm</text><text start="281.68" dur="4.799">but if this was on physical hardware you</text><text start="283.44" dur="5.039">probably want a swap and i'll do swap</text><text start="286.479" dur="3.521">file and it looks like we did have the</text><text start="288.479" dur="4.241">options i guess if you didn't want to do</text><text start="290" dur="5.199">butter fs we could do either extend4 or</text><text start="292.72" dur="4.32">xfs i'm fine with butter fs since it's</text><text start="295.199" dur="3.28">the default so let's go with that then</text><text start="297.04" dur="3.599">let's create our user so i'm going to</text><text start="298.479" dur="3.921">call my user dt and then we need to</text><text start="300.639" dur="3.28">create a strong and complicated password</text><text start="302.4" dur="2.72">for the dt user</text><text start="303.919" dur="3.441">and then repeat that strong and</text><text start="305.12" dur="3.919">complicated password and then do we want</text><text start="307.36" dur="3.679">to log in automatically without asking</text><text start="309.039" dur="3.761">for a password no the reason you create</text><text start="311.039" dur="3.521">a strong and complicated password is to</text><text start="312.8" dur="3.839">make sure that you have to enter a</text><text start="314.56" dur="4.32">password to get into your machine so i'm</text><text start="316.639" dur="4.161">not going to tick that on i will take on</text><text start="318.88" dur="3.759">the next option use the same password</text><text start="320.8" dur="3.6">for the administrator account that way i</text><text start="322.639" dur="3.761">don't have to remember two different</text><text start="324.4" dur="4.799">passwords that way the dt user's</text><text start="326.4" dur="5.359">password is the same password for root</text><text start="329.199" dur="4.72">and sudo so let me go ahead and choose</text><text start="331.759" dur="4.401">next and then it gives me a summary of</text><text start="333.919" dur="4.161">everything we chose and all that looks</text><text start="336.16" dur="3.2">good i'm going to click install and then</text><text start="338.08" dur="4.24">it's going to warn me that it's about to</text><text start="339.36" dur="4.96">format the drive and write the disk and</text><text start="342.32" dur="4">install now this portion of the</text><text start="344.32" dur="4.8">installation typically takes i don't</text><text start="346.32" dur="4.96">know about 10 minutes on my equipment</text><text start="349.12" dur="4.72">although it does warn me that the</text><text start="351.28" dur="4.639">install could take upwards of 30 minutes</text><text start="353.84" dur="4">now that probably depends on how much</text><text start="355.919" dur="3.84">extra software you chose to install</text><text start="357.84" dur="3.44">since i didn't use any extra software i</text><text start="359.759" dur="3.681">just went with the base packages</text><text start="361.28" dur="3.6">hopefully it won't take too long for me</text><text start="363.44" dur="3.36">i'll pause the video until the</text><text start="364.88" dur="3.52">installation has completed</text><text start="366.8" dur="3.519">and that portion of the installer has</text><text start="368.4" dur="4.32">completed that took about 10 or 12</text><text start="370.319" dur="4.241">minutes on my machine now again i didn't</text><text start="372.72" dur="3.44">choose any extra packages to install</text><text start="374.56" dur="4.32">that's why it was a little quicker for</text><text start="376.16" dur="4.319">me if you chose a lot of extra packages</text><text start="378.88" dur="3.92">to install during the installation</text><text start="380.479" dur="4.881">process then again they warned you this</text><text start="382.8" dur="4.08">could take up to 30 minutes to install</text><text start="385.36" dur="3.36">now to go ahead and complete the</text><text start="386.88" dur="3.759">installation we need to click restart</text><text start="388.72" dur="6.039">the system which will reboot the machine</text><text start="390.639" dur="4.12">that's what i'm going to do right now</text><text start="395.52" dur="3.92">and i rebooted the machine and wow that</text><text start="398.56" dur="3.44">was</text><text start="399.44" dur="4.16">a really interesting grub menu</text><text start="402" dur="2.56">that grub screen was only there for</text><text start="403.6" dur="2.8">about</text><text start="404.56" dur="4">three or four seconds but</text><text start="406.4" dur="5.519">it was one of the most interesting grub</text><text start="408.56" dur="5.12">screens i've ever seen i hope you guys</text><text start="411.919" dur="4">can appreciate what we're dealing with</text><text start="413.68" dur="4.48">here obviously when they say this is an</text><text start="415.919" dur="4.961">eye candy lover's wet dream they're</text><text start="418.16" dur="5.36">taking it to some rather extremes but i</text><text start="420.88" dur="4.719">have to admit i'm kind of enjoying this</text><text start="423.52" dur="4.16">so let me go ahead and log into kde</text><text start="425.599" dur="4.801">plasma looks like by default they're</text><text start="427.68" dur="5.2">going to use a wayland session which</text><text start="430.4" dur="4.079">would probably be fine here in this vm</text><text start="432.88" dur="4.879">but i'm going to go ahead and choose the</text><text start="434.479" dur="4.801">x11 session just to make sure everything</text><text start="437.759" dur="3.44">is good</text><text start="439.28" dur="4.8">and we have logged into our freshly</text><text start="441.199" dur="4.481">installed xero linux their kde edition</text><text start="444.08" dur="3.76">let me go ahead and configure the</text><text start="445.68" dur="5.519">display settings so i right click on the</text><text start="447.84" dur="4.68">desktop to get to this display settings</text><text start="451.199" our welcome tool here</text><text start="465.919" dur="4.56">and we have our nvidia card checker and</text><text start="468.4" dur="4.16">nvidia legacy drivers that's great that</text><text start="470.479" dur="4.481">they include this because</text><text start="472.56" dur="4.56">many desktop users of course are going</text><text start="474.96" dur="3.679">to have nvidia graphics cards dur="3.359">tricky</text><text start="481.52" dur="4.64">we have the shell configuration that is</text><text start="483.919" dur="5.601">interesting let's see use this tool to</text><text tells us it's done now</text><text start="549.279" dur="4.881">log out and back in to apply so i'm just</text><text start="551.76" dur="3.84">going to close that terminal and open a</text><text start="554.16" dur="3.679">new terminal</text><text start="555.6" dur="4.64">and now</text><text start="557.839" dur="3.841">now we have the power level 10k theme</text><text xero linux you know at the</text><text start="1310.96" dur="4.48">very bottom of the front page you have</text><text start="1312.799" dur="6.161">customization rises and themes and then</text><text at</text><text start="1322.96" dur="4.56">here by default but they have three</text><text start="1325.12" dur="5.52">other options that you could choose from</text><text start="1327.52" dur="5.2">so there was zero dracool which i'm</text><text start="1330.64" dur="4.56">assuming is a dracula theme yeah comes</text><text start="1332.72" dur="4.079">with some different widgets and it uses</text><text start="1335.2" dur="3.839">the dracula theme and they have an</text><text start="1336.799" dur="4.321">installation guide if you click on it</text><text start="1339.039" start="1345.52" dur="3.6">and yeah they give you some installation</text><text start="1347.84" dur="4.319">instructions actually what you need to</text><text start="1349.12" dur="4.96">do is you need to edit your pacman.conf</text><text start="1352.159" dur="4.4">and then i'm assuming you can just</text><text start="1354.08" dur="4.64">install a package directly from pacman</text><text start="1356.559" dur="4.721">so that's kind of cool other than the</text><text start="1358.72" dur="5.6">xerodrag dracule option you had zero</text><text start="1361.28" dur="4.72">nord which is a nord theme and again</text><text start="1364.32" dur="4.479">some different stuff going on with some</text><text start="1366" dur="5.2">widgets there and then zero sweet</text><text
