and</text><text start="30.08" dur="3.28">it&amp;#39;s something that they&amp;#39;ve stuck with</text><text start="31.439" dur="3.761">for quite a few releases some icons have</text><text start="33.36" dur="4.24">changed of course but i think that we</text><text start="35.2" dur="4.32">can make ghost pst a little bit more</text><text start="37.6" dur="5.04">unique a bit more reflective of our</text><text start="39.52" dur="5.6">personality so having installed some</text><text start="42.64" dur="4.88">extra software like inkscape and</text><text start="45.12" dur="5.119">libreoffice i think we should look at</text><text start="47.52" dur="4.719">how we can customize the wallpaper and</text><text start="50.239" dur="3.521">the icons i mean obviously we could just</text><text start="52.239" dur="3.681">do something simple like move them</text><text start="53.76" dur="5.36">across i mean that&amp;#39;s customizing to a</text><text start="55.92" dur="5.52">certain extent just move them back</text><text start="59.12" dur="3.52">but i think we can do a little bit more</text><text start="61.44" dur="2.64">so first we&amp;#39;re gonna have a look at the</text><text start="62.64" dur="4.64">wallpapers as you can see there is a</text><text start="64.08" dur="5.359">selection and they&amp;#39;re very pleasant</text><text start="67.28" dur="6.159">and the themes well the themes really is</text><text start="69.439" dur="5.841">only down to uh vimx or vimix</text><text start="73.439" dur="2.72">but you can do simple things like change</text><text start="75.28" dur="2.879">the</text><text start="76.159" dur="3.6">the theme here if you want dark or light</text><text start="78.159" dur="4">or</text><text start="79.759" dur="2.4">normal</text><text start="83.2" dur="3.2">you can customize it of course if you</text><text start="84.72" dur="3.52">press the customize tab</text><text start="86.4" dur="4.64">and what that lets you do is lets you</text><text start="88.24" dur="6.32">change everything from the borders</text><text start="91.04" dur="6.88">to the controls and all the widgets and</text><text start="94.56" dur="3.36">even the colors if you wish</text><text start="98.479" dur="6.801">so if we customize it and we wanted to</text><text start="100.479" dur="7.28">say uh i don&amp;#39;t know change it from</text><text start="105.28" dur="3.68">here let&amp;#39;s go for windows shall we</text><text start="107.759" dur="3.601">and then if you want to change the</text><text start="108.96" dur="2.4">default</text><text start="112.84" dur="4.68">icons that&amp;#39;s mate ones if you wish</text><text start="118.24" dur="2.72">that waiter</text><text start="121.2" dur="2.72">and mentor</text><text start="124.079" dur="4.721">and</text><text start="126.079" dur="4.8">change a pointer if you want so you can</text><text start="128.8" dur="4.88">change the you have a black pointer or</text><text start="130.879" dur="3.279">but you know in combination you can make</text><text start="151.519" dur="3.201">a difference to how you perceive your</text><text start="152.959" dur="3.761">desktop which is always a good thing to</text><text start="154.72" dur="4.96">do if you find yourself staring at the</text><text start="156.72" dur="2.96">same screen all the time</text><text start="160.48" dur="5.2">so we&amp;#39;re just looking through these i</text><text start="162.64" dur="4.4">kind of like that one that&amp;#39;s nice</text><text start="165.68" dur="3.76">just move the window up there i&amp;#39;m just</text><text start="167.04" dur="4.24">going to show you how you can download</text><text start="169.44" dur="4.24">a new wallpaper if you wish and put it</text><text start="171.28" dur="2.4">into the</text><text start="174.16" dur="3.92">the waiting director as it were so if</text><text start="176.319" dur="4.64">you look for wallpapers for instance hey</text><text start="178.08" dur="7.12">i&amp;#39;m looking for unix ones</text><text start="180.959" dur="6.64">and what&amp;#39;s available um</text><text start="185.2" dur="4.399">well one with a freebsd logo i like that</text><text start="187.599" dur="3.601">it mentions unix so uh we&amp;#39;ll have that</text><text start="189.599" dur="4.321">one</text><text start="191.2" dur="4.959">click on it follow the various links</text><text start="193.92" dur="4.8">if it is you can download then download</text><text start="196.159" dur="5.761">it</text><text start="198.72" dur="3.2">click on download</text><text start="203.84" dur="3.28">and go for the various steps it asks you</text><text start="205.76" dur="2.72">to</text><text start="207.12" dur="4.839">of course it will download it to the</text><text start="208.48" dur="3.479">download folder</text><text start="214.64" dur="4.319">click on home and there&amp;#39;s the download</text><text start="216.72" dur="4.239">folder what i like to do</text><text start="218.959" dur="3.681">is i like to create a folder within my</text><text start="220.959" dur="4.801">home directory</text><text start="222.64" dur="4.72">specifically for wallpapers</text><text start="225.76" dur="3.199">then i can build up a little collection</text><text start="227.36" dur="5.28">there so they&amp;#39;re not all stuck in the</text><text start="228.959" dur="3.681">the download folder as it were</text><text start="232.959" dur="3.2">so if we just move that over to the</text><text start="234.72" dur="5.64">wallpaper folder you don&amp;#39;t have to do</text><text start="236.159" dur="4.201">this it&amp;#39;s something that i like to do</text><text start="240.48" dur="3.28">and we&amp;#39;ll use the wallpaper in this</text><text start="242.08" dur="4.96">particular directory so it&amp;#39;s all we</text><text start="243.76" dur="3.28">always know what it&amp;#39;s going to be</text><text start="248" dur="3.2">you can add it manually by clicking on</text><text start="249.92" dur="3.12">the add button</text><text start="251.2" dur="4.959">and then finding your way to the folder</text><text start="253.04" dur="3.119">that we downloaded it to</text><text start="257.6" dur="4">or more conveniently if you just drag it</text><text start="260.079" dur="3.441">across</text><text start="261.6" dur="3.28">it will immediately change to that new</text><text start="263.52" dur="3.52">wallpaper</text><text start="264.88" dur="3.599">and add it as well so that&amp;#39;s that&amp;#39;s</text><text start="267.04" dur="3.52">really kind of cool</text><text start="268.479" dur="3.681">adding a new theme is a little bit more</text><text start="270.56" dur="4.4">contrived and a little more difficult</text><text start="272.16" dur="4.24">than adding a new wallpaper of course</text><text start="274.96" dur="3.679">what i found personally is a lot of</text><text start="276.4" dur="4.4">themes are designed for</text><text start="278.639" dur="4.961">gtk3 or</text><text start="280.8" dur="5.6">you know norm or whatever and with mate</text><text start="283.6" dur="5.039">in particular mate on golfbsd is themes</text><text start="286.4" dur="3.92">that are based upon gtk 2 are more</text><text start="288.639" dur="3.521">likely to work and even then it can be</text><text start="290.32" dur="4">hit and miss so if you want to add a</text><text start="292.16" dur="4.4">theme you could fire up a browser like</text><text start="294.32" dur="4.4">you did for the wallpapers or you just</text><text start="296.56" dur="3.919">click on the get more themes online and</text><text start="298.72" dur="4.24">that will start up a browser session and</text><text start="300.479" dur="5.601">take you straight to the themes page on</text><text start="302.96" dur="6.64">it you will see there is gtk2 themes and</text><text start="306.08" dur="5.92">gtk three themes so clicking on the gtk2</text><text start="309.6" dur="5.039">themes tab or link</text><text start="312" dur="4.24">and you can just scroll down and see</text><text start="314.639" dur="2.881">what tickles you fancy now a lot of</text><text start="316.24" dur="4.72">these are for</text><text start="317.52" dur="5.92">xfce so they may not work with</text><text start="320.96" dur="5.2">mate so just scroll down for a generic</text><text start="323.44" dur="5.28">gtk2 theme like i say you know it&amp;#39;s it&amp;#39;s</text><text start="326.16" dur="4.56">down to what what you like uh something</text><text start="328.72" dur="6.479">simple maybe um</text><text start="330.72" dur="6.16">like this card card gtk2</text><text start="335.199" dur="5.121">it looks fairly decent i like it&amp;#39;s nice</text><text start="336.88" dur="5.44">and simple so you click on it and go to</text><text start="340.32" dur="3.2">where it says</text><text start="342.32" dur="4.24">files</text><text start="343.52" dur="4.959">and then you can download</text><text start="346.56" dur="5.52">click on the download icon and it opens</text><text start="348.479" dur="5.921">up the usual dialog box</text><text start="352.08" dur="4.48">download it</text><text start="354.4" dur="4.96">and once that&amp;#39;s done</text><text start="356.56" dur="4.8">just minimize that</text><text start="359.36" dur="6">and again we&amp;#39;ll go to the download</text><text start="361.36" dur="4">folder now you could make a new separate</text><text start="365.759" dur="4.72">director if you wish</text><text start="367.36" dur="6.72">but in this case if we enable the show</text><text start="370.479" dur="5.601">all um option so it&amp;#39;s ctrl h it will</text><text start="374.08" dur="6.44">show the hidden files and we need to</text><text start="376.08" dur="4.44">find the dot themes folder</text><text start="381.919" dur="3.041">just drag that across</text><text start="385.12" dur="2.88">go to the change desktop background</text><text start="386.96" dur="1.92">option</text><text start="388" dur="2.319">although we&amp;#39;re not changing the</text><text start="388.88" dur="3.599">background we&amp;#39;re changing the theme so</text><text start="390.319" dur="4.641">we just go over to the themes tab</text><text start="392.479" dur="6.321">install and it should detect it there it</text><text start="394.96" dur="5.519">is click on that the theme card gtk2 has</text><text start="398.8" dur="3.44">been installed would you like to apply</text><text start="400.479" dur="4.16">it now or keep your current theme so i&amp;#39;m</text><text start="402.24" dur="4.399">going to apply it now and there we go</text><text start="404.639" dur="5.201">it&amp;#39;s not a dramatic change but it&amp;#39;s it</text><text start="406.639" dur="5.201">is a change although because we</text><text start="409.84" dur="4.639">mucked around with the uh the toolbar at</text><text start="411.84" dur="4.079">the top it&amp;#39;s not changing that so well</text><text start="414.479" dur="3.361">it&amp;#39;s no big deal but there you are</text><text start="415.919" dur="4.241">there&amp;#39;s the widgets for</text><text start="417.84" dur="3.44">card gtk 2.</text><text start="420.16" dur="2.96">so yes</text><text start="421.28" dur="3.759">uh it doesn&amp;#39;t seem to put anything into</text><text start="423.12" dur="5.44">that so i don&amp;#39;t know what our options</text><text start="425.039" dur="6.641">are with this oh well i&amp;#39;ll just um</text><text start="428.56" dur="6.639">i&amp;#39;ll choose another one there we go</text><text start="431.68" dur="3.519">that looks alright looks very decent</text><text start="435.68" dur="2.88">and of course if you choose other themes</text><text start="437.28" dur="4.4">that are more dramatic then you&amp;#39;ll get</text><text start="438.56" dur="3.12">more of a dramatic you know</text><text start="452.08" dur="4.959">there is a community version called xfce</text><text start="454.8" dur="5.76">there is even a development one where</text><text start="457.039" dur="5.121">you can choose uh kde i mean that&amp;#39;s okay</text><text start="460.56" dur="3.199">but if you want to use the supported</text><text start="462.16" dur="3.599">version and you want to add your own</text><text start="463.759" dur="3.521">desktop or window manager if we head</text><text start="465.759" dur="3.601">over to the software station as we&amp;#39;ve</text><text start="467.28" dur="4.56">seen in the previous video type in the</text><text start="469.36" dur="2.48">password</text><text start="472.639" dur="4.641">brings up the usual dialog box and we</text><text start="475.199" dur="4.801">just grab the latest database that&amp;#39;s</text><text start="477.28" dur="4.56">fine okay there we go and you can search</text><text start="480" dur="4.96">manually using the list on the left of</text><text start="481.84" dur="3.12">course if you go down to</text><text start="485.199" dur="4.641">x11 window managers</text><text start="487.599" dur="5.841">and it will display everything which you</text><text start="489.84" dur="4.96">expect in the window manager</text><text start="493.44" dur="3.36">you know quite a few there if you&amp;#39;re a</text><text start="494.8" dur="4">power user and you want one of these uh</text><text start="496.8" dur="5.119">minimalistic ones and then that&amp;#39;s fine</text><text start="498.8" dur="5.92">or if you want i say a semi minimal one</text><text start="501.919" dur="4.081">you can have xfce</text><text start="504.72" dur="3.199">i&amp;#39;m not going to put one of these window</text><text start="506" dur="4.4">managers in because uh i just want to</text><text start="507.919" dur="4.081">show you perhaps the more popular uh</text><text start="510.4" dur="4.72">options that people go for and that&amp;#39;ll</text><text start="512" dur="5.519">be norm kde and xfce but there&amp;#39;s quite a</text><text start="515.12" dur="4.96">few window managers if you want these if</text><text start="517.519" dur="5.44">you do search for kde it will bring up</text><text start="520.08" dur="5.04">quite a lot of uh lists there you click</text><text start="522.959" dur="5.841">on the the meta package i presume it&amp;#39;s a</text><text start="525.12" dur="5.76">meta package and uh we&amp;#39;ll download that</text><text start="528.8" dur="4.8">but i&amp;#39;m not sure what it&amp;#39;ll pull in but</text><text start="530.88" dur="2.72">let&amp;#39;s have a look</text><text start="533.68" dur="4.64">pulls in a lot of extras</text><text start="535.6" dur="4.88">we&amp;#39;ll install it and we&amp;#39;ll see what&amp;#39;s</text><text start="538.32" dur="3.68">left if necessary we&amp;#39;ll install some</text><text dur="4.24">translucent in nature it&amp;#39;s a little bit</text><text start="641.519" dur="4.56">hard to read but if you highlight it</text><text start="643.92" dur="5.2">it&amp;#39;s in white and black so it&amp;#39;s stands</text><text start="646.079" dur="5.2">out now i think that we can ignore the</text><text start="649.12" dur="4.32">first two you&amp;#39;ve got gnome you&amp;#39;ve got</text><text start="651.279" dur="4.401">non-classic norman xorg you&amp;#39;ve got</text><text start="653.44" dur="5.2">plasma on wayland which we don&amp;#39;t want</text><text start="655.68" dur="6.24">and plasma x11 which we do</text><text start="658.64" dur="5.12">so selecting that</text><text start="661.92" dur="3.039">i think it&amp;#39;s selected go hopefully</text><text start="663.76" dur="2.4">that&amp;#39;s going to do it yeah that&amp;#39;s right</text><text start="664.959" dur="2.56">it&amp;#39;s changed it so you know it&amp;#39;s going</text><text dur="4.72">they&amp;#39;re not fully supported</text><text start="679.519" dur="3.681">and you may encounter issues and one of</text><text start="681.92" dur="3.44">the issues i noticed straight away is</text><text start="683.2" dur="4.24">that there&amp;#39;s no icons on the the desktop</text><text start="685.36" dur="4.08">now those in the know will probably know</text><text start="687.44" dur="4.48">how to rectify that or you could just</text><text start="689.44" dur="5.12">simply open up your file browser and</text><text start="691.92" dur="4.64">drag them over to the the desktop or sim</text><text start="694.56" dur="4.64">links if you wish</text><text start="696.56" dur="5.2">but you know installing kde is not</text><text start="699.2" dur="4.48">difficult and you got all the usual</text><text start="701.76" dur="3.199">options everything seems to work fine</text><text start="703.68" dur="3.12">it&amp;#39;s just the icons on the screen</text><text start="704.959" dur="4.32">they&amp;#39;re missing</text><text start="706.8" dur="4.08">you can configure and you get various uh</text><text start="709.279" dur="3.36">wallpaper options as you can see there</text><text start="710.88" dur="4.32">and boot screen splashes et cetera it&amp;#39;s</text><text start="712.639" dur="4.721">very nice i like a bit of kde it&amp;#39;s</text><text start="715.2" dur="4.24">gotten to a place now where uh it&amp;#39;s</text><text start="717.36" dur="5.2">extremely useful and usable</text><text start="719.44" dur="4.959">there&amp;#39;s uh some applications games etc</text><text start="722.56" dur="4.24">everything works nice and smoothly which</text><text start="724.399" dur="2.401">is good</text><text start="727.12" dur="4.12">and there&amp;#39;s a look at the info center</text><text start="734.32" dur="5.28">is based upon freebsd</text><text start="736.839" dur="5.321">13.0 stable</text><text start="739.6" dur="5.28">so it&amp;#39;s a role in release</text><text start="742.16" dur="4.479">for all intents and purposes let&amp;#39;s close</text><text start="744.88" dur="4.88">that</text><text start="746.639" dur="8">very nice indeed dur="4.88">for i don&amp;#39;t know it looks like known for</text><text start="787.36" dur="3.12">maybe i don&amp;#39;t know</text><text start="790.56" dur="3.76">but anyway it&amp;#39;s if you like hmm</text><text start="857.44" dur="4">scroll through the various</text><text start="859.68" dur="3.599">applications available</text><text start="861.44" dur="2.72">just take a long time to find what you</text><text start="863.279" dur="2.24">want</text><text start="864.16" dur="2.799">and there&amp;#39;s a software station so we&amp;#39;re</text><text start="865.519" dur="4.841">just going to quickly install something</text><text start="866.959" dur="3.401">while we&amp;#39;re here</text><text start="870.959" dur="4.641">and we&amp;#39;re going to install</text><text start="872.72"
