[Music]ghost bsd has a consistent look and feeland it has for a while now the desktopitself doesn't really change thewallpaper is very nice and pleasant andit's something that they've stuck withfor quite a few releases some icons havechanged of course but i think that wecan make ghost pst a little bit moreunique a bit more reflective of ourpersonality so having installed someextra software like inkscape andlibreoffice i think we should look athow we can customize the wallpaper andthe icons i mean obviously we could justdo something simple like move themacross i mean that's customizing to acertain extent just move them backbut i think we can do a little bit moreso first we're gonna have a look at thewallpapers as you can see there is aselection and they're very pleasantand the themes well the themes really isonly down to uh vimx or vimixbut you can do simple things like changethethe theme here if you want dark or lightornormalyou can customize it of course if youpress the customize taband what that lets you do is lets youchange everything from the bordersto the controls and all the widgets andeven the colors if you wishso if we customize it and we wanted tosay uh i don't know change it fromhere let's go for windows shall weand then if you want to change thedefaulticons that's mate ones if you wishthat waiterand mentorandchange a pointer if you want so you canchange the you have a black pointer orwhite one or even go for say a kde styleoneand of course then you can change thefonts font sizes fonts styles etci mean these are all veryvery basic thingsbut you know in combination you can makea difference to how you perceive yourdesktop which is always a good thing todo if you find yourself staring at thesame screen all the timeso we're just looking through these ikind of like that one that's nicejust move the window up there i'm justgoing to show you how you can downloada new wallpaper if you wish and put itinto thethe waiting director as it were so ifyou look for wallpapers for instance heyi'm looking for unix onesand what's available umwell one with a freebsd logo i like thatit mentions unix so uh we'll have thatoneclick on it follow the various linksif it is you can download then downloaditclick on downloadand go for the various steps it asks youtoof course it will download it to thedownload folderclick on home and there's the downloadfolder what i like to dois i like to create a folder within myhome directoryspecifically for wallpapersthen i can build up a little collectionthere so they're not all stuck in thethe download folder as it wereso if we just move that over to thewallpaper folder you don't have to dothis it's something that i like to doand we'll use the wallpaper in thisparticular directory so it's all wealways know what it's going to beyou can add it manually by clicking onthe add buttonand then finding your way to the folderthat we downloaded it toor more conveniently if you just drag itacrossit will immediately change to that newwallpaperand add it as well so that's that'sreally kind of cooladding a new theme is a little bit morecontrived and a little more difficultthan adding a new wallpaper of coursewhat i found personally is a lot ofthemes are designed forgtk3 oryou know norm or whatever and with matein particular mate on golfbsd is themesthat are based upon gtk 2 are morelikely to work and even then it can behit and miss so if you want to add atheme you could fire up a browser likeyou did for the wallpapers or you justclick on the get more themes online andthat will start up a browser session andtake you straight to the themes page onit you will see there is gtk2 themes andgtk three themes so clicking on the gtk2themes tab or linkand you can just scroll down and seewhat tickles you fancy now a lot ofthese are forxfce so they may not work withmate so just scroll down for a genericgtk2 theme like i say you know it's it'sdown to what what you like uh somethingsimple maybe umlike this card card gtk2it looks fairly decent i like it's niceand simple so you click on it and go towhere it saysfilesand then you can downloadclick on the download icon and it opensup the usual dialog boxdownload itand once that's donejust minimize thatand again we'll go to the downloadfolder now you could make a new separatedirector if you wishbut in this case if we enable the showall um option so it's ctrl h it willshow the hidden files and we need tofind the dot themes folderjust drag that acrossgo to the change desktop backgroundoptionalthough we're not changing thebackground we're changing the theme sowe just go over to the themes tabinstall and it should detect it there itis click on that the theme card gtk2 hasbeen installed would you like to applyit now or keep your current theme so i'mgoing to apply it now and there we goit's not a dramatic change but it's itis a change although because wemucked around with the uh the toolbar atthe top it's not changing that so wellit's no big deal but there you arethere's the widgets forcard gtk 2.so yesuh it doesn't seem to put anything intothat so i don't know what our optionsare with this oh well i'll just umi'll choose another one there we gothat looks alright looks very decentand of course if you choose other themesthat are more dramatic then you'll getmore of a dramatic change[Music]now ghost psd the officially supportedone anyway comes with mati as you knowthere is a community version called xfcethere is even a development one whereyou can choose uh kde i mean that's okaybut if you want to use the supportedversion and you want to add your owndesktop or window manager if we headover to the software station as we'veseen in the previous video type in thepasswordbrings up the usual dialog box and wejust grab the latest database that'sfine okay there we go and you can searchmanually using the list on the left ofcourse if you go down tox11 window managersand it will display everything which youexpect in the window manageryou know quite a few there if you're apower user and you want one of these uhminimalistic ones and then that's fineor if you want i say a semi minimal oneyou can have xfcei'm not going to put one of these windowmanagers in because uh i just want toshow you perhaps the more popular uhoptions that people go for and that'llbe norm kde and xfce but there's quite afew window managers if you want these ifyou do search for kde it will bring upquite a lot of uh lists there you clickon the the meta package i presume it's ameta package and uh we'll download thatbut i'm not sure what it'll pull in butlet's have a lookpulls in a lot of extraswe'll install it and we'll see what'sleft if necessary we'll install someextra stuff as aas an additionwell it's all installed except for therest haven't been so we'll just quicklygo down the list and we'll just add themto install now i'll just speed this upso we're not umwe're not waiting there's probably a fewextra things i've not downloaded butwe'll seethere's probably a few extra things thati'm not selected but we'll see how itworks out yeah that looks a lot betterso i'll just download these it might bea good idea to try and do all this inone go rather than two separate uminstalls which uh we're doing herenow that's all donewell at least on the kde side now we'regoing to tryyes i know gnome falls already out andthere are some packages which um areactually looking at that four pointfour one okayforty one point zero so i don't knowwhether i'm actually installing norm3 ornorm4 so uh i'll click on it says num3but i'll presume that there are someknown four elements hmmokay well i'll install num3and i will select just fast forward thisof coursethere we go right okay okay we're goingto log out and we're going to test thenew install of kde and norm3so you see that little icon there it'sgot the mate symboland it's telling us that that's thedefault one of course it would be but ifyou click on it it brings up a menu andi do apologize for it uh being rathertranslucent in nature it's a little bithard to read but if you highlight itit's in white and black so it's standsout now i think that we can ignore thefirst two you've got gnome you've gotnon-classic norman xorg you've gotplasma on wayland which we don't wantand plasma x11 which we doso selecting thati think it's selected go hopefullythat's going to do it yeah that's rightit's changed it so you know it's goingto build into the environment when alittle picture comes up and we'll trykde now you've got to remember thatkde and norm3 are not native to ghostpsdthey're not fully supportedand you may encounter issues and one ofthe issues i noticed straight away isthat there's no icons on the the desktopnow those in the know will probably knowhow to rectify that or you could justsimply open up your file browser anddrag them over to the the desktop or simlinks if you wishbut you know installing kde is notdifficult and you got all the usualoptions everything seems to work fineit's just the icons on the screenthey're missingyou can configure and you get various uhwallpaper options as you can see thereand boot screen splashes et cetera it'svery nice i like a bit of kde it'sgotten to a place now where uh it'sextremely useful and usablethere's uh some applications games etceverything works nice and smoothly whichis goodand there's a look at the info centeris based upon freebsd13.0 stableso it's a role in releasefor all intents and purposes let's closethatvery nice indeed we're just going to logout and try norm 3 i thinkthere we goright back to the login again and againas we did before if you select norm onxorgput in password have you know i shouldalways get into that bit of putting thepassword in and then chain didn'tactually i thinkyeahthat's betteri i always tend to use just start x andalter the uh x in the rc filethere we go there's norm3 or is it knownfor i don't know it looks like known formaybe i don't knowbut anyway it's if you like thisparticular style i'm not overkeen on theuh the touchscreen aspect of itbut it looks nice and clean itactually looks very good actuallyusability is a different option butif this is what you likeand if it's fairly snappythen you should be should be happy withthisyeah it seems to be all right look atthe backgroundyeah some nice selection theresome of them pretty abstract i like thislight bulb oneso it looks goodand that's how you install norm3 onghost bsdyeah it's quite a heavy on uhrambut then againum1.0 so we are using a almost like ahybrid version of 3 and41.0 hmmscroll through the variousapplications availablejust take a long time to find what youwantand there's a software station so we'rejust going to quickly install somethingwhile we're hereand we're going to installxfceso in ain the roundabout way we're going to uhcreate his own version of thecommunity build again for the third andfinal time on thisthere's xfce so we're just to put hispassword inand hopefully it comes upoh yes there it is it's very nice verynice and cleanand of course those familiar with xfceit's uh xxfceyeah and this was only a very quickuh cursory look at how you can makeghost psd your own there's more optionsavailable of course and for a muchlonger video then you could go into adeep diving changingand installing new fontsetc the icons you can install the newfonts you can install from therepositoriesso with a bit of time and a bit ofeffort a bit of patience you can reallycreate a custom look for ghost space tand still have the functionality ofghost pst in the background and i thinkthat's something to be applauded unlikesome operating systems it's not lockeddown and it's not hard to change it justtakes a bit of imagination and a littlebit longer time than i've given in thisvideo course psd is a brilliantoperating system it's a fantasticshowcase of what freebsd itself can doand that with people with more talentand imagination than i've got can createa ready out of the boxand ready to use freebsd desktop systemand ghostbsd was one of the first to dothat and it's still going strong andthat is very much
