because when these 504 is taking so longto get out so this should give you a bitof an update as to where we stand andwhat's coming next and what's comingafter that and what's coming after thatso if we can go to the next slide whichis the first slide how we do softwarereleases so just in case anyone'swondering this should give you someideas as to what we don't do softwarereleases it's important to us that weproduce a finished product when it'sreleased for general so we consider tostill be in testing sometimes this meansthat the release takes longer than wewould like it to take but from ourperspective it's more important to putout a finished product than getsomething out quicklywe don't rush through a release cyclethere's nothing we don't have anythinglike Mozilla's rapid release cycle wherethe goal is to just crank up versionnumbers our goal is to provide the thebest updates to the software that wehave and to realistically number thoseupdates as to whether it's a minorupdate or a major update next slidepleasebut we do do is test our software verycarefully for regressions we try to makesure that everything we want to get intorelease gets into that release thingsthat are important particularly duringthe five got over in cycle things areimportant to get the operating systeminstall its you can't enjoy theoperating system if you can't get it onto the hardware so a lot of our focushas been on what we need to do in orderto get the operating system through thestorm and if we have an update that willpotentially get more users running upand running then we will hold off thatupdate until it's ready to go so that wecan get those other users using theoperating system this same concept holdstrue for the other things that we dosuch as the package map there are lotsof new features coming in the packagemanagerbut until they're actually ready they'renot going anywhere we're still testingwhenever we have a very small group oftesters which means that testing maytake longer then for companies that havea thousand people testing it once nextslide pleasejust to give you an idea what I'mtalking about releases major releasesare four five six seven dot zero it'sthe next slide after that I'm watchingI'm watching in the core my screeningthe live feed release terminology is asignificant point where this is 5.1 5.2we haven't gotten beyond the significantpoint release of 5.0 bug-fix andmaintenance releases are the next digitso we've gone from 5.0 in May of 2017through 5.3 and the 5.0 dot three andwe're coming up on five at $0 next likethis so we hadn't really anticipated a5.0 dot 5 release the original plan wasdivided by 0.4 to 5.1 but while we'vebeen working on 5.0 dot or we've beenaccumulating things for the 5.1 rootsthings that were too involved to fit inthe 5.0 not for release things that weretruly an enhancement so they would gointo a new version and look at thelength of the list it just seemed that5.1 was going to take a long time to getout you'll remain recall from previousworld map updates I've said thatnational language versions the word dayyou got one that's a lot of work all byitself forget all the other things thatwe want to do languages are going totake a while we have a couple languagesthat are much farther along than most ofthe other ones so we decided that it mayactually work out where we have a numberof fixes and minor enhancements ready togo along the way to getting 5.1 out andit didn't make sense not to do a 5.0 dot5 Elise we'll see we're still notcompletely set on itbut if I've got one would be the nextsignificant point was and then we'llhave a little review cycle after thatuntil we get to 5.2 5.2 plans are noteven on the board yet so we're not surewhat they're planning for 5.1 that wouldbe deferred to 5.2 or what new things wewere put into 5.2 that's all stillcoming next like this so major pointsfor 5.0 dot for again as I mentionedinstallation focus changes so we'regoing to have a number of enhancementsthat will make installing the operatingsystem easier for particularly forhardware that is slightly I won't say weuse a turn non-standard but may actuallybe lower standard today but unexpectedfor os/2 and unexpected for amendmentswhich is the component that allows us toboot from DVD or from USB USB stickwhat we call all truth we now have thefirst update to that component since2011 that deals with memoryconfigurations with the memory holes orin different places than we wouldotherwise expect so we were running outof available memory for the Installerand on those systems we simply couldn'tget the operating system during thestorm now that doesn't mean that youcouldn't install the operating system onsomething else and then copy the theinstallation over to that particularmachine but that gets to be rathertedious difficult to to get accomplishedon all the lines of a normalinstallationit's going to debut the updater facilityso no longer have to reformat andreinstall all of your software to getthe latest version of iOS installed inthe systemyou give out our car OS I've got 0through 5 god 0.3 you can just burn fromthe installation medium and selectupdate select the partition that youwant to update and they really do therestquite thoroughly we're confident withthis ready to go so that would becompany out in 5.0 dr. Guhaand of course the usual gouging fixes toinclude third-party applicationsSamba climbed up David's in there andthe latest version of arkanoid pocketmanager next slide pleaseso here's the deal with five dot 0.5because if I've got one is going to takesignificant time and when I say nine to12 months that's a very rough estimatebecause in truth the only order to findout one that's really been started hasbeen the regularization part of factnone of the other features have reallybeen kicked into gear so that's a veryworth it's clear that there will be someupdates and features that will be readyto go before and 5.1 is ready for thisso instead of holding those off until5.1 or making them all available asindividual updates to be installed wewere considered dirty a five god 0.5release as the final release of thefinal site expect that in six to ninemonths following be supplied by 0.5 0.4has taken a little bit longer to get outthan me had originally hoped so if wecan get five by 0.5 out sooner then theinterval between five our 0.35 X 0.4that would be a good thingnext slidein the $5 0.5 release we're going tohave more enhancements to be theInstaller and the free boots areaincluding the ability to select USB 3controller we would drivers for USB 3potentially UEFI and potentially nvmeall those three only USB 3 actuallyexists today in in a state where itcould be considered for inclusion he'llrelease so UEFI is in the research phaseand you're going to get the demo of howthat boots later on that hasn't beenintegrated with with any of the Archoscomponents yet and and the nvme driverhas not even been been started but it isconceivable there's somewhere along theline if it were ready nobody threw thatin 5:05 release the same thing for multimy Wi-Fi drivers if available we wereconsidered those for inclusion in a 5.25elites dt audio which has been to thispoint known as dt a digital transferagent is the component which allowssound in we know is 2 and now dossessions to the map to meaning are foroutput because 5.1 is going to haveretro gaming as a major focus we've gota we've got aa resurgence in interest in getting weknow as to endoscopy yams running theway they should under our co s includingfull audio support so that component iscoming along quite nicely if it's readyfor inclusion for four or five at one isready for release that would besomething to consider plenty of thefinal fibers because German and Spanishare so much farther along thetranslationschedule than other languages that wehave in the works when we consider whenwe see them as as 5:05 versions thoselanguages are at the active time waitingfor 505 release a game we wouldn't holdup for a Germany weeks but then there'sno sense in making wait for 5.1 you knowthat there's demand for that and we wantto bring it out as soon as it's readyand of course we would include updatedmozilla apps funded utilities and wehave some new games alleviating if qt5is ready to go and or or i should saybut if qt5 is ready to go and if the newqt5 based browser is ready to go wewould consider adding that and that'sthe general logic behind the 5:05release whatever is ready to go at thatpoint six to nine months out the 504assuming we've testedrather wellpoint removed dual 5:05 of this nextslide pleasehere's the plan for 5.1 as I said before5.1 is going to take a significantamount of time probably up to a yearpotentially more than youlet's not get ahead of ourselveseverything I'm about to tell you isTestaments it's a hope it's a prayerit's a wish list item please do not holdus to any of these thingsthis list is entirely subject to changewithout notice but these are the thingsthat are on our list for 5.1 next slideplease five our points should be able toupgrade 5.0 dot ini' thing to 5.1there's a difference between an updateand upgrade because we will be addingfeatures in 5.1 we're not just updatinginstalled features to the latest codecode level we're adding new features toan installed system that's an upgradethe update facility except with withrare exceptions does not add newsoftware to an existing 5.0 installationthere are as I say there are exceptionsfor instance in 5.0 time for the updatewhere and the the ISO Drive componentwhich is what USB stick that will beadded to a 5.0 release where it was notpresent before we now include the Jukegigabyte fix for das PDMS as a tea I sawa das DSR that would be added to anexisting 5.0 release but other than thatmost of the things in update or justthat updates to what's already beenstrong upgrade is a different storyso don't confuse update with upgrade 5.1should include an upgrade facility sothe one goes on have to be reformat andreinstall our thorough s 5.1 whenthere's an existing 50.5 installation onthe disk they want to go to migrationfacility so easy s to point one or twopoint to the migration facility shouldbe able to take that and convert it tothe lately the filesystem layout for ourKS and migrate your desktop to an RKO sdesktop keeping all of your installedsoftware in its hands that's a prettytall order unto itself so when you anupdate up sorry we had upgrade andmigrate some national languagejust those things take a tremendousamount of time we're going to reinventthe hardware types installer right nowwe have older hardware modern hardwareand we have working machines and some ofthe modern hardware modern hardware safemode which essentially just disablesmore gonna revamp those so that they'remore logical and they're easier toselect for we may not know exactly whichone to take so that's that's part of ourfree boot enhancement plan there will besome additional install release we havesome things now that help us deal withwith dirty volumes or I should sayvolumes that appear to be in need ofconsistency checking they may or may notbe dirty dirty is a state of shut downby the state of longer so what we beable to deal with those more efficientlythan we do right now and we want to makesome changes to the little cow socialsystem in the operating system to bringit under the 21st century and so thatit's maintainable going forward localesare or interesting interesting creaturesconcepts and they it doesn't appear thatanyone outside of our behaviors everattempted to update thatportion of the operating system but ifyou've ever used the little cap thecountry pilots you know what I'm talkingabout when when when I say that at leastwe brought into a 21st century there area number of things that are differentnow to an IBM originally designed II thefacility but all of that is boardedprobably need to be redone to scratchand drop things or places there is nonothing the BTK that would give us anyassistance with there's no there and theDT audio component will be able to talkto that as well as far in the year theywere being nice if we can get HD videoIntel HD video support and snap formodern Intel chipsets that's one of thethings on our listthere was a celebrated video for very tedious we've got alist about the need for an FTP clientthat does TLS transport layer securitycertificates that will be essentiallycommand compatible so the learning curvewill not be steep but we sowe want to do a drop-in replacement forftp and 5.1 most people are familiar atthis point with the old IBM workforceselect and install utility or what wecall the bane of our existence that'sgoing to using the oneconfiguration file that server thecommand structure would be the samethat's gonna take some time that projectis not even gonna started it has to bemapped out yet next slide pleaseprinter manager we like to rewrite intosomething more comprehensive I guesswould be the word to use right now wehave a number of different printingconfiguration utilities that sort ofcoexist in the put this folder some ofthem call other ones as externalapplications but a unified manager thereare some other desktop things among thema replacement for the background page onthe the the desktopproperties they put there there's atremendous amount of stuff that's wrongwith that page the the duplicate finalmain issue in the drop-down list thefact that it only allows selection ofbitmap files the fact that you can'tbrowse that we need to sort of just typeaway and make sure no miss somethingor background image there's no way toautomatically rotate the one goodsession to the next so we'd like to seeif we can address that by subclass inthat page they don't probably some otherthings there are definitely some otherthings that we would like to do tomodernize some of the features of theworkplace shell that have gotten stale adesktop search into the usuallyinteresting thing about desktop searchwhen desktop search was first proposedannounced it seemed to me like a bit ofa waste of time but you know as thisshould become larger and our files havebecome more scattered shall we saysometimes finding a file that you wantparticularly a word processing file OpenOffice file or a PDF and searching for aparticular string has become T's there'sa wonderful application called recallvery did the the first port of this sometime ago with a a desktop folder for thesearch results and it's it's anextensible framework so you can addsupport for other file types to it thiswould be a good that's not searchfor us and we would like to include thator something like thatin five minutesnext like this is their next slidethat's it okay so that's that's kind ofwhat we leave off with with 5.15 not towhatever is done well by God about 1.1will have a probably a few of the thingsare deferred from 5.10 and some of themajor things probably going to 5.2 butright now we're targeting 5.1 for themajor enhancements that list will seehow many actually make it into 5.1 butthat's the overall out the door beforethe end of this month we are that closeI will see how close we are to that thatestimate but we're we're ready to we'rejust about ready to do our final betafor that and that will receive an updateto any
