so this is not your usual vintage Applekeyboard and that's because it's noteven vintage at all it's actually areplica of this keyboard that wasshipped with the original Macintosh backin 1984 but it's meant for use withmodern devices So today we're going touse it with some Modern devices and do aside by-side comparison with The RealDeal hello everybody and welcome back toanother video so this is going to beanother one of those non-sponsoredproduct reviewi is videos on on thevortexm0110 replica keyboard they recently gotin contact with me and offered to sendone of these out for review and eventhough I normally turn down these offerscuz I get a lot of them I figured I'daccept this one because this directlyrelates to the Vintage Tech Focus thatyou all have come to expect from thischannel because Vortex here produces ahandful of these vintage replicakeyboards they even have one basedaround them0110a which which is basically thiskeyboard with a numpad added on to theright side though that is currently indevelopment so it's not available as ofme filming this video but this modelcertainly is and it goes for around$150 on their website and if you end uppurchasing one this is what you willreceive what I really like about the boxis it's based around and apparently theydo this with their other uh replicavintage keyboards as well but they tryto kind of mimic the design of the boxthat the original Real Deal keyboardwould have come in so you know I thinkthat's really neat they just obviouslyput their own spin on it but uh yeah sothere it is we'll go ahead and uh takeit out here it slides out like this andwe will uh open this up and we'll seewhat lies inside they do include a fewextra accessories and stuff which we'llget to in a moment which is always uhnice to see so you've got theinstruction manual here uh you've gotChinese on one side you've got Englishon the other so this tells you how to uhconnect it uh via Bluetooth because thereally cool thing about this particularmodel that I got here is that itsupports connecting over USB overBluetooth or over a 2.4 GHz wirelessdongle a USB wireless dongle that theyhave in here but they also have anothervariant of the same keyboard thatsupports the qmk firmware if you're intothat sort of thing but I just opted forthis one it's called the triple modevariant because I would like to try thisout on a few different devices so we'llset the instructions aside here is theUSB cable it's a USBC to usba Cable it'suh partly coiled as well so that's niceand here is the keyboard itself now whenyou purchase you know if you end updeciding to get a one of these keyboardsfrom Vortex they do offer you a a fewcustomization options and one of thoseis what key caps that you get on thekeyboard so if we look at the side ofthis box here you can see that I optedto get the grpro yellow switches butyou've got a wide selection of switchesthe they' they' got the gr Pro and theCherry MX red switches on there andthat's great if you prefer one or theother I actually have never used gr Proswitches before so I figured I'd givethose a try and uh right here on thebottom of the Box we've got this littleaccessories bag where they've got a keyccap puller they've got the USB donglethey have an allen wrench they also havea control key so it's not an exact copyof the keyboard layout but I would saythat's a good thing because they've madesome improvements to the layout of thisone here that make it more suited for amodern system for example they'vechanged the Tilda key to the Escape keythey've added the function keys back youjust have to hold down this FN key overhere as a result of that the shift keyis a little bit smaller they've alsomoved the backspace key down here andput the delete key in its place and thenthey actually moved the backs slash keyup here so they added another key inthis area over here and you can see withthe names of some of these keys thatthey're trying to go for sort of a dualWindows and Apple layout so this downhere is just called the code key but youhave the symbol for the option key uphere so this is actually the Windows keythat's what the option key correspondsto in Windows uh so you know they justhave that there the ALT key is labeledas alt and command uh and there's nocontrol key they did not add that uhthat is trying to stay true to theoriginal layout I guess but I will saythis keyboard feels more compact thanthe original and that's just because itthey've actually slimmed down uh thesize of it especially on the side hereyou can see how much bulkier that theoriginal keyboard is compared to thereplica and obviously the coloring on onthe keys and everything is different aswell but uh still I think it's a it's apretty great modern replica it staystrue to the original where it needs tobut it also adds a nice modern twist uhto the keyboard layout a little bitthough it would have been nice for themto add the control key I think um thatis kind of my only gripe with it butagain they are trying to stay true tothe original layout uh on the back herethis is the switch you use to uh switchbetween the three different modes so thecenter here here or I is for just usingthe USBC cable G is for the 2.4 GHzWireless and B is for Bluetooth we'llcheck those out in a minute this iswhere you plug in or rather install yourbatteries let's go ahead and take itapart and it's really simple you justuse the included Allen key and youremove these screws just like that we'llget the top cover off and there you gothat's how easy it is to get inside infact you can just lift up the entirekeyboard here from the bottom plasticpiece as well and you could swap out keycaps so you can do that without takingit apart but you want to you know removethe key switches or you know swap someof them out I don't know but you coulddo all that cuz it's really easy to getinside you can see right here is uhwhere the spot for the control keyswitches are which I find interestingobviously you can't really hook them upwith this you know going right on top ofit and it wouldn't even you know thespacing is off as well all right sowe've got this plugged in over the USBcable to one of my windows machines andthe reason I've done that is because thesoftware that I want to show you isWindows only as of this moment and youcan download it by going over tovortex's website they've got the updatesand downloads page and they just got itall for each of their keyboards you knowthey've got software and stuff for inthis case we got the m0110 triple modeso I downloaded the GUI for it and thisis what the software looks like so we'llgo ahead and uh click on the keyboardthere and the main thing you can do isremap keys so you know if you want forexample and see it's interesting howthis virtual keyboard here shows thecontrol key even though that's not onhere so I guess on some other versionthey had one with the control key um butyeah you can remap Keys around so if youwant for example the uh the ALT key tobe the control key you just select theALT key here and you select control onthe bottom and I can then hit controlshift escape to bring up task manager soyeah you can easily remap Keys you canalso change the language that's a greatthing you can change that over toEnglish that way we can actually read uhyou know what everything says uh so youcan have multiple config configurationstoo so if you want to you know edit thisyou can rename it add a new one deletethat one and you've got macros all rightso I figured next up we'd take a look atusing this thing over Bluetooth and thenwe'll do something really fun and kindof pointless so you know pretty muchevery one of these videos on the channeluh so we're going to go ahead and swapit over and uh put in two able abatteries and to put this into pairingmode we can look at the manual here tosee the key combination is FN I assumeleft alt and either one two or threedepending on what device you want topair so you can pair up to three devicesso press for 3 seconds I assume pressinghold for 3 seconds so we'll do FN leftalt and one and there it is so we'll tapthat Bluetooth pairing request we'll hitpair and there we go so now if I uh gointo notes here yep I can type out uhwhatever I want without any issues thatis lovely so you know we'll say helloworld uhI am typing if I can that's not what Iwant oh see I'm so used to this is kindof my other gripe with this is therelocation of the backspace key eventhough this key is smaller I'm stillnaturally going up here thinking it'sthe backspace key butyeah there's two practical ways of usingthis keyboard now we're going to dosomething impractical and just reallysilly because who said modern deviceswere the only thing you could use thiswith no no no no no we're going to beusing this thing on my Macintosh SE fdhdusing the lovely wonderful USB for VCone of my favorite little devices thatallows you to use modern peripheralslike this on Vintage computers I did avideo on it back in early 2022 so we'vegot it all hooked up all I got to do isplug in the the USB cable I could evendo this over Bluetooth if I wanted to uhbecause the USB for VC supports that butI'm just going to plug it in over USB tokeep things simple and now we're justgoing to open up let's see here I stillgot my thunder scan disc in here fromback when I did that video my gosh uhlet's just open up uh key caps hereand yep it works because the USB for VCis like literal magic it I just can'tget over how cool this thing is evenover a year later I still absolutelylove it so uh but yeah so you can usethis thing with vintage computers if youabsolutely want to uh but you know Ijust had to test this out and throw thisin here CU it wouldn't be an mjd videowithout doing
