to do was make surethat people who bought from App Tevas upto Packard bells were able to installthis thing easily right so all you do ison one of the first diskettes youactually are asked a question would youlike to take easy install you hit theenter key and from there on the softwaretakes over the install process and itdiscovers all the things about yourhardware doesn't ask you all those goofyquestions exactly right in fact this isan example I install this on my thinkpad here it determined that I was asuper VGA monitor I bet you didn't knowyou had a Western Digital chipset I'llbe up since I did not know there was aWestern Digital chipset it found itselected the right one and put the rightdevice driver for that I didn't have totell them I did not tell it that rightit determined that I had advanced powermanagement what a day that's good forthe PCMCIA support put it in and one ofthe Bane's of people's existenceespecially in the games and themultimedia environment is the Lotuswhich I like and I'm used to and I canuse the OS 2 or the Windows version ofWordPerfect all I have to do is have OS2 we're quite a ways away from a lot ofthings up herewhat about connectivity to the outsideworld do you use it for that your cellphone how you so as to to run modemprograms to dial into different placesaroundand the reason I like to use a lessstupid that is the multitasking theability to be dialing in somewhere andusing my work processor as well did youever try to make this work under justdas oh yeah yeah like that's not evenclose no we had to have the OS to theonly thing out there that would allow usto be able to move between thesedifferent environments basicallyseamlessly so you found it real easy tojust walk up and start using because youwere familiar with either Windows orMacintosh yeah if you'd have beenexposed to that environment it's it'spretty much the same game it's just alittle different twist what poormegabyte machine your only options havebeen Windows and now we can loaded onbefore make machine it'll work just fineyou can do more with those who didn'tcame with any other product out therefor the PC we've been looking for a wayto connect with the other clinics intown and we do medevacs to sendingcritically ill patients over toanchorage and i think that we could setup something using os/2 that wouldreally help us right now we Xerox thechart and we sand along a packet alongwith the patient and there have beeninstances where the packet got left onthe plane and so it would be reallyhelpful if we could just communicate itelectronically that would really help usa lotos/2 does make a difference and it's notjust about megabytes and nanoseconds forthe people of Kodiak it's bringing theoutside world a little closer wellthat's great Wallyyou andinformation a month it's being read by14 million users each month and thenthey get those pages of informationloaded down into their TV it'sinteractive so the person gets theinformation that they need when theywant it and we're making money out of itwe couldn't have managed without RS 2 weknew we needed a graphical userinterface but it also had to have thepower to go back into the mainframe andcollect information from the mainframeso what the journalist is doingtypically is he's doing three or fourthings simultaneously there and youcouldn't do that with a windows-basedoperating system it just wouldn't havethe functionality I think an indicationof the reliability of os/2 is in two anda half years it's never gone downwe've been beta testing Walton for thelast two or three months and we like itin terms of its reliability and ease ofuse and I think it's that richness inthe operating system that are going toallow us to build very comprehensivesystems for multimedia applications whatwe want to do is build what we callnewsroom 2000 will have all thecomponents of journalists needs toproduce a multimedia news story and forthe first time he'll be able to tietogether the pictures with the wordsthat he's writing will have speechrecognition in thereand ultimately the user will be able todig into the pictures dig into the wordsarchive and pull together their own newsstoryOster is the client for news from 2000because there's basically nothing elseout there that will do the job and weknow that it will do the job becausewe've been testing it for the last ninemonths you you've been using os/2 for awhile could you imagine ever going backto das windows now once you use always -for a couple of hours and you see whatyou can achieve with this operatingsystem it just seems like 20
