dur="3.999">inch</text><text start="27.039" dur="5.36">so you can follow along i provided this</text><text start="29.679" dur="3.841">photo for the background and this stone</text><text start="32.399" dur="4.081">texture</text><text start="33.52" dur="4.559">these files as well as this figure can</text><text start="36.48" dur="4.32">be downloaded from the links in the</text><text start="38.079" dur="4.401">video&amp;#39;s description or project files</text><text start="40.8" dur="4">the first step is to separate your</text><text start="42.48" dur="4.559">figure from its background by creating a</text><text start="44.8" dur="4.16">selection around the figure</text><text start="47.039" dur="3.68">there are many ways to make selections</text><text start="48.96" dur="3.04">and i covered them in most of my other</text><text start="50.719" dur="3.601">tutorials</text><text start="52" dur="4.96">you&amp;#39;ll get the best ultimate results</text><text start="54.32" dur="4.719">from images who aren&amp;#39;t wearing stark</text><text start="56.96" dur="4.56">contrasts of clothing</text><text start="59.039" dur="4.241">in this example i lighten the top of the</text><text start="61.52" dur="3.52">pants of this figure</text><text start="63.28" dur="3.199">color doesn&amp;#39;t matter since we&amp;#39;re going</text><text start="65.04" dur="4.96">to remove it</text><text start="66.479" dur="6.881">press ctrl shift u on a pc or command</text><text start="70" dur="6">shift u on a mac to desaturate it</text><text start="73.36" dur="5.28">press v to open your move tool and drag</text><text start="76" dur="5.2">it up onto the tab of the background</text><text start="78.64" dur="4.799">without releasing your mouse or pen drag</text><text start="81.2" dur="3.919">it down onto the background and then</text><text start="83.439" dur="4.161">release</text><text start="85.119" dur="3.841">to reposition it click inside the figure</text><text start="87.6" dur="3.28">and move it</text><text start="88.96" dur="3.28">click off the eyeball of the background</text><text start="90.88" dur="3.04">to hide it</text><text start="92.24" dur="4.48">we&amp;#39;re going to use the figure to</text><text start="93.92" dur="5.519">displace the stone texture so it will</text><text start="96.72" dur="5.68">wrap around the contours of the figure</text><text start="99.439" dur="4.72">to do this go to layer and duplicate</text><text start="102.4" dur="4.8">layer</text><text start="104.159" dur="5.761">click on the arrow and choose new</text><text start="107.2" dur="3.68">type in displacement and either click on</text><text start="109.92" dur="3.68">ok</text><text start="110.88" dur="4.64">or press enter or return</text><text start="113.6" dur="4.799">close the document by clicking on the</text><text start="115.52" dur="5.84">small x at the right side of its tab and</text><text start="118.399" dur="5.36">then click yes to save it</text><text start="121.36" dur="4.16">i&amp;#39;ll save it on my desktop</text><text start="123.759" dur="3.521">click save</text><text start="125.52" dur="4.079">and click ok</text><text start="127.28" dur="4.16">make the background visible</text><text start="129.599" dur="3.121">and open the stone texture file i</text><text start="131.44" dur="4.56">provided</text><text start="132.72" dur="6.4">press ctrl or command a to select it</text><text start="136" dur="5.36">and control or command c to copy it</text><text start="139.12" dur="5.119">click on the tab of your background and</text><text start="141.36" dur="6.959">press control or command v to paste the</text><text start="144.239" dur="5.521">texture into it go to filter distort and</text><text start="148.319" dur="3.441">displace</text><text start="149.76" dur="4.16">we&amp;#39;ll displace the horizontal and</text><text start="151.76" dur="5.36">vertical scales by five</text><text start="153.92" dur="5.76">choose stretch to fit and repeat edge</text><text start="157.12" dur="2.56">pixels</text><text start="159.84" dur="4.96">click on displacement and open</text><text start="162.56" dur="4.319">immediately you&amp;#39;ll notice a subtle but</text><text start="164.8" dur="4.48">important shift in the texture which</text><text start="166.879" dur="4.881">will become apparent shortly</text><text start="169.28" dur="5.28">go to the figure and control click it on</text><text start="171.76" dur="5.28">a pc or command click it on a mac to</text><text start="174.56" dur="4.319">make a selection of its shape</text><text start="177.04" dur="3.839">click on the layer mask button to make a</text><text start="178.879" dur="4.72">layer mask of the selection next to the</text><text start="180.879" dur="4.481">active layer which is the texture</text><text start="183.599" dur="5.841">click on the texture</text><text start="185.36" dur="4.08">and change the blend mode to multiply</text><text start="189.599" dur="4.481">let&amp;#39;s brighten our stone statue by</text><text start="192" dur="6.08">opening the levels window</text><text start="194.08" dur="6.079">press ctrl or command l</text><text start="198.08" dur="4.96">slide the right input level to where the</text><text start="200.159" dur="5.36">black begins</text><text start="203.04" dur="5.44">make the figure active and make it</text><text start="205.519" dur="2.961">brighter as well</text><text start="209.04" dur="4.08">notice how the displacement map made the</text><text start="210.959" dur="3.36">texture wrap around the contours of the</text><text start="213.12" dur="3.92">figure</text><text start="214.319" dur="5.2">the statue looks great as is but i&amp;#39;d</text><text start="217.04" dur="4.4">like to enhance the shadows a bit more</text><text start="219.519" dur="3.601">since the light in the background is</text><text start="221.44" dur="4">bright and sunny</text><text start="223.12" dur="4.64">i&amp;#39;ll make the texture active and open my</text><text start="225.44" dur="4.48">brush tool</text><text start="227.76" dur="5.839">i&amp;#39;ll choose a brush size of forty five</text><text start="229.92" dur="6">pixels and a hardness of zero percent</text><text start="233.599" dur="4.961">the blend mode is multiply and the</text><text start="235.92" dur="5.2">opacity is forty percent</text><text start="238.56" dur="4.64">i&amp;#39;ll brush over areas of the statue that</text><text start="241.12" dur="4.479">are on the underside of the form and</text><text start="243.2" dur="4.72">angled away from the sun</text><text start="245.599" dur="6.36">to make the brush tip larger press on</text><text start="247.92" dur="4.039">the right bracket key</text><text start="254.239" dur="4.161">the last step is to make the background</text><text start="256.079" dur="4.88">blurrier as it recedes in the distance</text><text start="258.4" dur="4.64">to simulate the effect of a camera&amp;#39;s</text><text start="260.959" dur="4.161">depth of field</text><text start="263.04" dur="4.4">make the background active and make a</text><text start="265.12" dur="6.56">copy of it</text><text start="267.44" dur="8.24">go to filter blur and gaussian blur</text><text start="271.68" dur="5.92">we&amp;#39;ll blur it by 3.5 pixels</text><text start="275.68" dur="5.2">click on the layer mask button to make a</text><text start="277.6" dur="5.76">layer mask next to the blurry background</text><text start="280.88" dur="5.2">open your gradient tool and make sure</text><text start="283.36" dur="4.8">the linear gradient is highlighted</text><text start="286.08" dur="5.119">click on the gradient thumbnail and</text><text start="288.16" dur="6.72">choose the third preset on the left</text><text start="291.199" dur="6.161">this is the black to white gradient</text><text start="294.88" dur="4.4">press and hold shift as you click on the</text><text start="297.36" dur="4.16">bottom of the document</text><text start="299.28" dur="5.199">drag up to approximately where the</text><text start="301.52" dur="5.119">building begins</text><text start="304.479" dur="4.241">this makes a layer mask that gradually</text><text start="306.639" dur="4.481">reveals the focused background</text><text start="308.72" dur="5.12">underneath the blurry background</text><text start="311.12" dur="5.12">the ground is in focus at the bottom and</text><text start="313.84" dur="4.32">gradually becomes blurry as it gets</text><text start="316.24" dur="4.64">closer to the building</text><text start="318.16" dur="5.44">if you want to slide your statue over</text><text start="320.88" dur="4.56">make the texture active and shift-click</text><text start="323.6" dur="4.08">on the figure under it</text><text start="325.44" dur="5.44">this highlights both layers</text><text start="327.68" dur="5.92">open your move tool and press shift as</text><text start="330.88" dur="4.96">you slide it over</text><text start="333.6" dur="5.24">have
