to</text><text start="208" dur="4.879">do it if you just want to try ubuntu out</text><text start="211.12" dur="4.56">however here we'll be doing a full</text><text start="212.879" dur="4.881">install onto the computer's ssd which is</text><text start="215.68" dur="4.24">currently a blank drive with no</text><text start="217.76" dur="4.08">operating system</text><text start="219.92" dur="4.959">and here we are we can see the jammy</text><text start="221.84" dur="5.44">jellyfish coming into view and here we</text><text start="224.879" dur="3.761">could just try out ubuntu if we wish to</text><text start="227.28" dur="3.28">but what i'm going to do is i've just</text><text start="228.64" dur="3.84">set this to an install so i click on</text><text start="230.56" dur="4">install ubuntu</text><text start="232.48" dur="4.08">and i have to pick my language like that</text><text start="234.56" dur="4.64">which is definitely english uk and</text><text start="236.56" dur="4.56">english uk and continue</text><text start="239.2" dur="4.16">and i'm going to do a normal</text><text start="241.12" dur="4.64">installation we want to download updates</text><text start="243.36" dur="4.32">whilst installing and i also want to</text><text start="245.76" dur="4.64">install third-party software for</text><text start="247.68" dur="5.68">graphics and additional media formats</text><text start="250.4" dur="4.88">so again we'll click on continue</text><text start="253.36" dur="3.839">and the top option we've now got is to</text><text start="255.28" dur="3.76">erase the disk and install ubuntu which</text><text start="257.199" dur="3.361">is what we're going to do you can do</text><text start="259.04" dur="3.36">things which are more complicated under</text><text start="260.56" dur="4.079">something else you could for example be</text><text start="262.4" dur="4.64">installing ubuntu alongside windows if</text><text start="264.639" dur="3.681">it was already on your computer but here</text><text start="267.04" dur="4.32">we've got the most straightforward</text><text start="268.32" dur="6.159">installation possible onto a blank ssd</text><text start="271.36" dur="4.88">so we'll click on install now</text><text start="274.479" dur="3.361">and it'll just check we want to do it</text><text start="276.24" dur="3.2">yes we do</text><text start="277.84" dur="3.12">i now have to set some of the basic</text><text start="279.44" dur="3.52">things we always set during an</text><text start="280.96" dur="4">installation where i'm in the world for</text><text start="282.96" dur="5.519">time things like that</text><text start="284.96" dur="3.519">and now to set up an account</text><text start="288.56" dur="4.48">there we are all the details are entered</text><text start="290.639" dur="4.161">i'd note this is just a local account on</text><text start="293.04" dur="3.92">the computer and we'll now click on</text><text start="294.8" dur="4.48">continue again</text><text start="296.96" dur="4.56">and there we are the happy marine</text><text start="299.28" dur="6.96">invertebrate the jammy jellyfish will</text><text start="301.52" dur="4.72">get on installing itself on the computer</text><text start="306.56" dur="4.4">and there we are the installation is</text><text start="308.56" dur="4.479">complete so we'll just click on restart</text><text start="310.96" dur="4.239">now</text><text start="313.039" dur="4.72">and remove our installation media and</text><text start="315.199" dur="4.961">press enter</text><text start="317.759" dur="5.081">and by jingo we've now booted ubuntu</text><text start="320.16" dur="5.759">from the ssd so we'll just log</text><text start="322.84" dur="5.16">in there we go and we've got a first run</text><text start="325.919" dur="4.641">wizard here do i want to connect online</text><text start="328" dur="4.88">accounts now i'm going to skip that</text><text start="330.56" dur="4.88">am i going to help improve ubuntu yes</text><text start="332.88" dur="4.56">i'll do that i think i'll help the calls</text><text start="335.44" dur="4.16">but i'm not going to turn on location</text><text start="337.44" dur="4.08">services and there we are we're all</text><text start="339.6" dur="4.319">ready to go with the jammy jellyfish</text><text start="341.52" dur="4.48">hiding just under here</text><text start="343.919" dur="4.081">but as usual in one of these videos and</text><text start="346" dur="3.919">i want to make a few scaling changes so</text><text start="348" dur="6.08">things look better on video and i'll</text><text start="349.919" dur="4.161">come back to you when i've done that</text><text start="358.479" dur="5.361">greetings here i am back again and we're</text><text start="361.919" dur="4.321">going to take a look around both to</text><text start="363.84" dur="4.32">introduce ubuntu to new users and to</text><text start="366.24" dur="3.6">highlight new features</text><text start="368.16" dur="5.36">please note that i'll be including</text><text start="369.84" dur="5.76">changes introducing ubuntu 2004 as many</text><text start="373.52" dur="4.32">people don't install the intermediate</text><text start="375.6" dur="4.719">six monthly updates</text><text start="377.84" dur="6.479">so the most important thing to say here</text><text start="380.319" dur="6.481">is that ubuntu 2204 is a no major shocks</text><text start="384.319" dur="4.32">release there's no difficult transition</text><text start="386.8" dur="4.32">here from the previous version it's not</text><text start="388.639" dur="5.521">like going from for example windows 7 to</text><text start="391.12" dur="5.44">windows 8 rather the jammy jellyfish</text><text start="394.16" dur="4.72">delivers subtle and polished updates to</text><text start="396.56" dur="4.72">the user interface and applications</text><text start="398.88" dur="3.92">along with some technology changes under</text><text start="401.28" dur="4.24">the hood</text><text start="402.8" dur="4.959">starting with the interface by default</text><text start="405.52" dur="5.04">the updated gnome desktop continues to</text><text start="407.759" dur="5.041">have a top bar and a vertical dock from</text><text start="410.56" dur="4.079">which i think we'll launch the nautilus</text><text start="412.8" dur="4.64">file manager which has been updated</text><text start="414.639" dur="5.28">looks very nice and i'm sure i'll enjoy</text><text start="417.44" dur="4.319">wrangling data here</text><text start="419.919" dur="3.521">if we go to the top bar on the right we</text><text start="421.759" dur="3.361">find there's still a menu here which</text><text start="423.44" dur="3.52">gives us access to important things like</text><text start="425.12" dur="3.76">the ability to log out and power off at</text><text start="426.96" dur="3.76">the end of the session but we've also</text><text start="428.88" dur="4.159">now here got access to some power</text><text start="430.72" dur="5.199">management modes which are new in ubuntu</text><text start="433.039" dur="4.16">2204 and i'll say more about these in a</text><text start="435.919" dur="3.761">second</text><text start="437.199" dur="5.28">also here we can open up all settings</text><text start="439.68" dur="4.88">like that where as you can see in screen</text><text start="442.479" dur="6.56">display i've already set fractional</text><text start="444.56" dur="6.72">scaling and set a scale factor of 150</text><text start="449.039" dur="4.88">if we move up to appearance which is</text><text start="451.28" dur="4.96">just uh up here there it is let's move</text><text start="453.919" dur="4.161">that down there there's quite a few</text><text start="456.24" dur="4.399">changes here and most notably the</text><text start="458.08" dur="5.2">ability to change the accent color from</text><text start="460.639" dur="4.081">ubuntu's classic orange to one of nine</text><text start="463.28" dur="4.24">other colors so we could have for</text><text start="464.72" dur="5.039">example blue and that would reflect</text><text start="467.52" dur="4.64">straight away in the farm manager up</text><text start="469.759" dur="4.88">there over on the dock etc or we could</text><text start="472.16" dur="4">have reds or we could have a green it's</text><text start="474.639" dur="2.801">amazing what difference changing a color</text><text start="476.16" dur="3.28">makes isn't it but i think i'm going to</text><text start="477.44" dur="4.56">stick with orange i can't deal with all</text><text start="479.44" dur="5.599">this change straight away</text><text start="482" dur="5.199">we've also here got revised dark modes</text><text start="485.039" dur="4.401">and light modes i do like the dark mode</text><text start="487.199" dur="4.4">let's stick with that for a second but</text><text start="489.44" dur="5.759">we've lost here the standard mode so now</text><text start="491.599" dur="6.481">we've only got two modes to select from</text><text start="495.199" dur="5.041">if i scroll down here we've got more new</text><text start="498.08" dur="4">settings lots of which deal with the</text><text start="500.24" dur="4.16">dock and one of the things you might</text><text start="502.08" dur="3.6">have noticed is that the trash can which</text><text start="504.4" dur="3.519">is called the rubbish bin here because</text><text start="505.68" dur="4.48">i'm in the uk has been moved from a</text><text start="507.919" dur="3.68">desktop onto the dock but we can</text><text start="510.16" dur="3.359">configure this if we wish there's a new</text><text start="511.599" dur="4.32">configure dock behavior button which</text><text start="513.519" dur="4.481">allows us to turn on off the rubbish bin</text><text start="515.919" dur="3.6">or trash can like that and we can also</text><text start="518" dur="3.44">choose whether we wish to include</text><text start="519.519" dur="3.44">volumes whether they're mounted or not</text><text start="521.44" dur="3.76">etc</text><text start="522.959" dur="4.401">there's also now a control called panel</text><text start="525.2" dur="4.4">mode and if we turn that off the dock</text><text start="527.36" dur="4.159">doesn't fill the entire display we can</text><text start="529.6" dur="3.919">see that more if i make it smaller with</text><text start="531.519" dur="3.521">its icons it just fills some of the</text><text start="533.519" dur="4.561">display although i think again i'm going</text><text start="535.04" dur="5.28">to stick with the the classic mode</text><text start="538.08" dur="4">if we go up a bit you'll see there's now</text><text start="540.32" dur="3.68">a button to control showing of a</text><text start="542.08" dur="4.4">personal folder let's just move up there</text><text start="544" dur="4.959">the personal folder is down here we can</text><text start="546.48" dur="4.72">flick that on and off and you'll also</text><text start="548.959" dur="4.32">see it down there the default position</text><text start="551.2" dur="4">for new icons is bottom right but again</text><text start="553.279" dur="5.281">as you can see we can change that so new</text><text start="555.2" dur="4.72">icons would go where we wanted them</text><text start="558.56" dur="3.279">another thing to look at here let's just</text><text start="559.92" dur="5.12">get rid of that bit tidy is we've got a</text><text start="561.839" dur="5.12">brand new section called multitasking</text><text start="565.04" dur="3.919">and this controls things like for</text><text start="566.959" dur="3.521">example active screen edges if i took</text><text start="568.959" dur="3.281">this window and push it to the top it</text><text start="570.48" dur="3.359">would do that thing to move it out and</text><text start="572.24" dur="3.12">we can move it back again i hate</text><text start="573.839" dur="3.041">features like that in operating systems</text><text start="575.36" dur="2.96">for me the most important thing about</text><text start="576.88" dur="3.6">this new control panel is that we can</text><text start="578.32" dur="3.76">turn that type of thing off but if you</text><text start="580.48" dur="3.76">like using things like hot callers and</text><text start="582.08" dur="4.16">that sort of stuff this is important and</text><text start="584.24" dur="3.599">also down here we've got control of</text><text start="586.24" dur="4">workspaces whether we have a fixed</text><text start="587.839" dur="4.241">number a variable number and how they</text><text start="590.24" dur="4.32">work on multiple monitors things like</text><text start="592.08" dur="4.64">that it's exciting to a whole new part</text><text start="594.56" dur="4.16">of the the settings panel</text><text start="596.72" dur="3.84">and talking of new things let's go down</text><text start="598.72" dur="4.08">to power which is just</text><text start="600.56" dur="4.56">down there where we've got more options</text><text start="602.8" dur="5.12">now although not massively more here on</text><text start="605.12" dur="5.12">desktop but earlier i ran things up on a</text><text start="607.92" dur="5.039">laptop where we now have a wide spectrum</text><text start="610.24" dur="4.8">of power options and not least these</text><text start="612.959" dur="4.32">finally include the ability to show the</text><text start="615.04" dur="6.32">remaining battery capacity as a</text><text start="617.279" dur="4.081">percentage on the top bar</text><text start="626" dur="5.2">so let's now turn to applications with</text><text start="629.2" dur="4.48">favorites included here on the dock</text><text start="631.2" dur="4.8">things like the rhythm box music player</text><text start="633.68" dur="4.96">and the firefox web browser let's launch</text><text start="636" dur="5.2">that up there we go and let's also have</text><text start="638.64" dur="4.4">launched for example libreoffice writer</text><text start="641.2" dur="3.92">have to launch that in a video like this</text><text start="643.04" dur="4.08">and we have to again we can</text><text start="719.6" dur="4.64">use it as a means of navigation</text><text start="722.079" dur="4.641">or if we wish we can get to activities</text><text start="724.24" brings up</text><text start="730.32" dur="4">activities and we can select between</text><text start="731.92" dur="3.599">things using that button to our heart's</text><text start="734.32" we're not just limited</text><text start="749.12" dur="3.6">to using applications from the dock</text><text start="751.12" dur="4.24">there's lots of other applications</text><text that</text><text start="774.48" dur="3.84">workspace we can go back to the first</text><text start="776" dur="4.24">one just like that</text><text start="778.32" dur="3.68">and as i'm sure you've worked out here</text><text start="780.24" dur="3.92">we can see all applications installed on</text><text start="782" dur="4.8">the system we can stroll across them</text><text start="784.16" dur="4.64">horizontally like that if i get it right</text><text start="786.8" dur="3.36">in previous versions of ubuntu the</text><text start="788.8" dur="4.32">scrolling here was there's</text><text start="815.44" dur="3.36">masses of space available why aren't</text><text start="817.04" dur="3.52">they on display</text><text start="818.8" dur="3.52">this said there is something very</text><text start="820.56" dur="3.68">positive about this screen because now</text><text start="822.32" dur="4.24">if i grab an application for example</text><text start="824.24" dur="4.56">solitaire i can grab it like that move</text><text start="826.56" dur="4.16">it around you couldn't move these icons</text><text start="828.8" dur="4.24">around you couldn't rearrange them in</text><text start="830.72" dur="4.32">previous versions of ubuntu and the fact</text><text start="833.04" dur="3.76">you now can you can bring your favorite</text><text start="835.04" dur="3.68">applications to the front of this screen</text><text start="836.8" dur="4.56">i think is a very useful thing to be</text><text start="838.72" dur="4.799">able to do</text><text start="841.36" dur="4.36">talking of applications and innovation</text><text start="843.519" dur="5.521">one of the great additions to ubuntu</text><text start="845.72" dur="5.479">2204 is a much improved screen capture</text><text start="849.04" dur="4">and screencasting facility</text><text start="851.199" dur="4.08">and we access this using the print</text><text start="853.04" dur="5.039">screen key like this where as you can</text><text start="855.279" dur="5.601">see we can grab a selection just move it</text><text start="858.079" dur="4.32">out as we wish or we can grab a window</text><text start="860.88" dur="3.199">different windows are available we could</text><text start="862.399" dur="4.161">have for example that one or we could</text><text start="864.079" dur="4.32">grab the entire screen let's do a window</text><text start="866.56" dur="4.959">just to prove the principle we'll grab</text><text start="868.399" dur="5.68">goodbye and capture like that it's now</text><text start="871.519" dur="5.281">put that in the clipboard but also if we</text><text start="874.079" dur="4.081">go across to the file manager which is</text><text start="876.8" dur="3.76">on another workspace i hope you're</text><text start="878.16" dur="4.56">keeping up with this i think i am we can</text><text start="880.56" dur="4.16">open up pictures and we can open up</text><text start="882.72" dur="3.679">screenshots and in there</text><text start="884.72" dur="4.559">there we find the capture which made of</text><text start="886.399" dur="4.56">that particular window</text><text start="889.279" dur="3.761">now finally when it comes to</text><text start="890.959" dur="4.961">applications i thought i should show you</text><text start="893.04" dur="4.56">ubuntu software over here and this</text><text start="895.92" dur="3.68">allows us to see everything installed on</text><text start="897.6" dur="4.16">the system again and to uninstall them</text><text start="899.6" dur="4.4">if we wish it allows us to perform</text><text start="901.76" dur="4.639">updates everything's currently up to</text><text start="904" dur="4.8">date and here of course we can add new</text><text start="906.399" dur="4.401">applications if we wish and we can do</text><text start="908.8" dur="4.399">that by searching for them we can do it</text><text start="910.8" dur="4.56">by going down to editor's picks down</text><text start="913.199" dur="3.681">here editors choice or we can look</text><text start="915.36" dur="3.36">inside categories</text><text start="916.88" dur="3.68">art and design being obviously a great</text><text start="918.72" dur="4.4">one to look at we can install something</text><text start="920.56" dur="4.959">like blender for example if we wanted to</text><text start="923.12" dur="4.8">so it's very easy here to install new</text><text start="925.519" dur="4">pieces of software and i think what i'm</text><text start="927.92" dur="4.32">going to do is to install critter by way</text><text start="929.519" dur="5.201">of example a great painting application</text><text start="932.24" dur="5.599">all we have to do is to click on install</text><text start="934.72" dur="5.6">and enter our password</text><text start="937.839" dur="4.8">there we go and it'll install the</text><text start="940.32" dur="4.16">application</text><text start="942.639" dur="2.88">and there we go that is finished let's</text><text start="944.48" dur="3.76">clear up</text><text start="945.519" dur="4.721">on this workspace like that and</text><text start="948.24" dur="4.08">hopefully down here if we look at all</text><text start="950.24" dur="5.039">applications on the system critter is</text><text start="952.32" dur="4.879">now there on the end it is we have very</text><text start="955.279" dur="4.24">straightforwardly installed a new piece</text><text start="957.199" dur="5.361">of software which i'm sure the jammy</text><text start="959.519" dur="3.041">jellyfish will</text><text start="966.839" dur="5.321">enjoy right let's now look at some</text><text start="969.759" dur="6">technical changes starting with the fact</text><text start="972.16" dur="6">that in ubuntu 2204 the default display</text><text start="975.759" dur="4.64">server is wayland rather than the</text><text start="978.16"
