help the ukrainians defend</text><text start="59.52" dur="3.039">themselves they certainly have a right</text><text start="61.199" dur="3.121">to defend themselves and we ought to</text><text start="62.559" dur="3.441">help them as best we can</text><text start="64.32" dur="4.479">how significant is it that germany will</text><text start="66" dur="4.32">send weapons to ukraine</text><text start="68.799" dur="3.68">i think it&amp;#39;s very significant germany</text><text start="70.32" dur="4.24">under under its own laws not a</text><text start="72.479" dur="4.96">doesn&amp;#39;t allow the shipment of armaments</text><text start="74.56" dur="5.44">to uh to nations in conflict and it was</text><text start="77.439" dur="4.081">one of the reasons it refused uh for so</text><text start="80" dur="3.04">long to provide lethal aid to the</text><text start="81.52" dur="4.959">ukraine back in</text><text start="83.04" dur="5.84">2014 and 15 when russia first invaded uh</text><text start="86.479" dur="5.041">ukraine the germans led the effort to</text><text start="88.88" dur="5.52">prevent the delivery of even defensive</text><text start="91.52" dur="4.16">lethal equipment they&amp;#39;ve now turned 180</text><text start="94.4" dur="4.399">degrees they&amp;#39;re ready to help the</text><text start="95.68" dur="5.68">ukrainians with significant capabilities</text><text start="98.799" dur="4.801">uh that are going to help the ukrainians</text><text start="101.36" dur="4.799">stem these these tanks that we</text><text start="103.6" dur="4.559">were just seeing uh and make sure that</text><text start="106.159" dur="3.841">they don&amp;#39;t uh reach their attend a</text><text start="108.159" dur="4.24">target so it is significant for germany</text><text start="110" dur="4.799">to do that of course following on</text><text start="112.399" dur="5.121">the right decision to uh to halt the</text><text start="114.799" dur="4.081">nordstrom 2 pipeline gas pipeline dur="3.92">significant nuclear weapons uh</text><text start="147.76" dur="4.88">capabilities uh</text><text start="149.84" dur="4.72">and and a leader who has repeatedly</text><text start="152.64" dur="3.52">threatened to use nuclear weapons</text><text start="154.56" dur="4.48">including as recently as a couple of</text><text start="156.16" dur="4.64">days ago you got to be careful uh and</text><text start="159.04" dur="3.839">then you also have to look at interest</text><text start="160.8" dur="4.719">uh and clearly the russian interest in</text><text start="162.879" dur="5.121">ukraine is is significant that&amp;#39;s why it</text><text start="165.519" dur="4.481">went to war uh and you have to compare</text><text start="168" dur="4.319">that with the u.s and nato interest in</text><text start="170" dur="4.959">preventing that war when you</text><text start="172.319" dur="3.601">balance all all out it&amp;#39;s tough decision</text><text start="174.959" dur="1.92">and</text><text start="175.92" dur="3.12">president</text><text start="176.879" dur="4.401">president biden like others has made the</text><text start="179.04" dur="4.24">decision that directly engaging in this</text><text start="181.28" dur="3.12">conflict is not the right thing to do at</text><text start="183.28" dur="2.959">the same time</text><text start="184.4" dur="3.28">let&amp;#39;s find other means to counter the</text><text start="186.239" dur="3.441">russians whether it&amp;#39;s through sanctions</text><text start="187.68" dur="3.279">whether for beefing up uh</text><text start="189.68" dur="3.68">nato and of course helping the</text><text start="190.959" dur="4.321">ukrainians in order to ensure that</text><text start="193.36" dur="4.239">whatever happens today or tomorrow in</text><text start="195.28" dur="3.92">the end this becomes a failure for</text><text start="197.599" dur="3.121">vladimir putin</text><text start="199.2" dur="2.8">that is clearly the goal they&amp;#39;ve made it</text><text start="200.72" dur="3.519">clear they&amp;#39;re looking at the long game</text><text start="202" dur="5.12">too making this a failure to vladimir</text><text start="204.239" dur="6">putin if russian forces topple ukraine&amp;#39;s</text><text start="207.12" dur="6.32">government can russia manage to maintain</text><text start="210.239" dur="5.041">control over ukraine</text><text start="213.44" dur="4.24">well it&amp;#39;s going to be very very</text><text start="215.28" dur="4.16">difficult uh we&amp;#39;re already finding that</text><text start="217.68" dur="5.04">the russians are having some problems</text><text start="219.44" dur="5.68">actually even take gaining control of uh</text><text start="222.72" dur="4.32">parts of ukraine along the capital</text><text start="225.12" dur="4.16">but once it is in control once it has</text><text start="227.04" dur="5.52">occupied it uh we clearly have a</text><text start="229.28" dur="5.679">ukrainian population that has been uh</text><text start="232.56" dur="4.72">mobilized in order to counter a foreign</text><text start="234.959" dur="5.2">occupation just recall what happened in</text><text start="237.28" dur="4.08">2003 the united states intervene</text><text start="240.159" dur="4.16">invaded</text><text start="241.36" dur="5.12">iraq very quickly toppled saddam hussein</text><text start="244.319" dur="3.041">in the regime and today we&amp;#39;re still even</text><text start="246.48" dur="4">there</text><text start="247.36" dur="5.04">because a major insurgency uh kept us</text><text start="250.48" dur="3.36">there for many many years</text><text start="252.4" dur="3.28">i think that&amp;#39;s what we&amp;#39;re going to be</text><text start="253.84" dur="3.44">seeing and i wouldn&amp;#39;t be surprised to</text><text start="255.68" dur="3.36">see the united states and other nato</text><text start="257.28" dur="4">countries helping the ukrainians in that</text><text start="259.04" dur="4">insurgency to make sure that the cost of</text><text start="261.28" dur="4.72">the russian invasion is going to</text><text start="263.04" dur="5.68">continue to grow uh so that russia at</text><text start="266" dur="4.96">one point or another understands that it</text><text dur="3.919">russian energy the u.s we we import some</text><text start="293.68" dur="3.44">oil</text><text start="294.639" dur="4.801">it&amp;#39;s the europeans who are uh highly</text><text start="297.12" dur="4.16">reliant particularly on gas</text><text start="299.44" dur="4.56">some countries get a hundred percent of</text><text start="301.28" dur="5.759">their gas for electricity and heating uh</text><text start="304" dur="5.199">from russia to turn it off means to fact</text><text start="307.039" dur="4">no have no electricity and no heating</text><text start="309.199" dur="4.481">it&amp;#39;s the middle of winter</text><text start="311.039" dur="4.801">in europe and uh having countries make</text><text start="313.68" dur="4.4">that decision is just one that is uh</text><text start="315.84" dur="4.24">that is too difficult at the same time</text><text start="318.08" dur="5.52">it once again underscores</text><text start="320.08" dur="5.76">the incredibly importance of uh europe</text><text start="323.6" dur="4.56">to reduce its dependence on russian</text><text start="325.84" dur="4">energy to start looking for alternative</text><text start="328.16" dur="4.319">sources of gas</text><text start="329.84" dur="4.96">just last month for the first time more</text><text start="332.479" dur="4">gas came through liquefied natural gas</text><text start="334.8" dur="3.6">lng</text><text start="336.479" dur="4.081">ports and ships was imported into europe</text><text start="338.4" dur="4.16">that came through russian pipelines</text><text start="340.56" dur="4.96">that&amp;#39;s where the future lies and over</text><text start="342.56" dur="5.359">time europe will have to uh need less</text><text start="345.52" dur="4">russian gas and
