I have worked at Maximus since</text><text start="14.12" dur="7.52">2015 as a tier 2 Medicare CSR and I&amp;#39;m a</text><text start="18.8" dur="6.6">member of the Jones County</text><text start="21.64" dur="6.76">NAACP my co-workers and I answer calls</text><text start="25.4" dur="6.56">for 1800 Medicare in the Affordable Care</text><text start="28.4" dur="5.92">Act also known as the marketplace we</text><text start="31.96" dur="6.04">help families across the country</text><text start="34.32" dur="5.88">navigate complicated Health Care Systems</text><text start="38" dur="5.48">often during the most vulnerable time in</text><text start="40.2" dur="5.44">their lives we know that this work</text><text start="43.48" dur="5.28">should come with living wage and</text><text start="45.64" dur="5.079">Affordable Health Care instead too many</text><text start="48.76" dur="4.99">of us are working for the federal</text><text start="50.719" dur="4.241">government and struggling to survive</text><text start="53.75" dur="5.41">[Music]</text><text start="54.96" dur="8.12">right we really enjoy our jobs however</text><text start="59.16" dur="6.56">the daily work work load can be very</text><text start="63.08" dur="6.32">stressful we feel that our work is very</text><text start="65.72" dur="6.24">important to our beneficiaries in us we</text><text start="69.4" dur="5.6">ask that you all consider our point of</text><text start="71.96" dur="6.519">view and consider prly our</text><text start="75" dur="6.52">requests in a few weeks we will begin</text><text start="78.479" dur="5.201">our business season which is the opening</text><text start="81.52" dur="5.16">for Medicare and</text><text start="83.68" dur="5.88">Marketplace we are here today to put</text><text start="86.68" dur="9.56">Maximus on notice if you want to address</text><text start="89.56" dur="10.559">our demands we will uh prepare for</text><text start="96.24" dur="6.4">strike today you will have a chance to</text><text start="100.119" dur="5.481">hear from some of my co-workers about</text><text start="102.64" dur="6.479">why we&amp;#39;re ready to take action to win</text><text start="105.6" dur="7.159">Justice you will also hear from our</text><text start="109.119" dur="6.441">strong allies in this fight to begin I</text><text start="112.759" start="138.92" dur="6.88">Lisha Preston I worked at this callon in</text><text start="141.92" dur="7.12">hburg for about nine years My Last 5</text><text start="145.8" dur="4.48">Years here at Maximus I am an eternal</text><text start="149.04" dur="2.72">support group</text><text start="150.28" dur="4.039">Maximus with</text><text start="151.76" dur="5.199">Marketplace I&amp;#39;m a single mother of a</text><text start="154.319" dur="5.521">handsome seveny old boy and I can tell</text><text start="156.959" dur="6.801">you is just not possible to support my</text><text start="159.84" dur="6.8">family working at Maximus call center we</text><text start="163.76" dur="4.6">are underpaid and our healthc care is</text><text start="166.64" dur="4.679">just</text><text start="168.36" dur="6.36">unaffordable when I when I first got</text><text start="171.319" dur="5.84">hired nine years ago I had faith that I</text><text start="174.72" dur="3.96">finally found my dream job and I really</text><text start="177.159" dur="3.641">did dream that I was going to be working</text><text start="178.68" dur="4.839">at the call center</text><text start="180.8" dur="5.519">so I love helping people and I love</text><text start="183.519" dur="5.921">knowledgeable things so that&amp;#39;s why I I</text><text start="186.319" dur="5.761">am glad to be here but since then I&amp;#39;ve</text><text start="189.44" dur="5.92">had a child and my health has become a</text><text start="192.08" dur="6.239">bigger issue as well every day is a</text><text start="195.36" dur="7.12">struggle just to survive at</text><text start="198.319" dur="6.2">Maximus me and my son have to have moved</text><text start="202.48" dur="6.92">back with my parents because I couldn&amp;#39;t</text><text start="204.519" dur="8.481">afford my own place my car note my car</text><text start="209.4" dur="4.68">ins Insurance all all along ate up half</text><text start="213" dur="4.959">of my</text><text start="214.08" dur="6.48">check in 2019 I was in the hospital for</text><text start="217.959" dur="4.2">two weeks with the walking walking</text><text start="220.56" dur="4.599">pneumonia in the</text><text start="222.159" dur="6.36">lungs I&amp;#39;m still paying off medical debts</text><text start="225.159" dur="5.16">for 4 years later because our high of</text><text start="228.519" dur="5.36">the high out of pocket</text><text start="230.319" dur="5.48">cost I also had to take out loans to pay</text><text start="233.879" dur="4.761">off those</text><text start="235.799" dur="5.08">debts I wasn&amp;#39;t I wasn&amp;#39;t even getting</text><text start="238.64" dur="5">paid for those two weeks in the hospital</text><text start="240.879" dur="6.481">and bills still need to be paid and I&amp;#39;m</text><text start="243.64" dur="7.28">still paying off those loans it hurts me</text><text start="247.36" dur="7.12">not to provide for on my own for my son</text><text start="250.92" dur="6.439">a place to stay and there&amp;#39;s no way I</text><text start="254.48" dur="4.039">could afford Child Care at Maximus at</text><text start="257.359" dur="4.84">Maximus</text><text start="258.519" dur="7.24">pay so I don&amp;#39;t know what I&amp;#39;ll do</text><text start="262.199" dur="6.401">without my parents helping me with my</text><text start="265.759" dur="4.481">child if I had to pay for child care I</text><text start="268.6" dur="2.92">don&amp;#39;t even know if if I&amp;#39;ll be able to</text><text start="270.24" dur="5.16">feed my</text><text start="271.52" dur="6.32">family I also have to rely on State</text><text start="275.4" dur="5.28">Insurance Medicaid Mississippi Medicaid</text><text start="277.84" dur="5.4">for my son because it is impossible to</text><text start="280.68" dur="3.84">afford family health coverage at Maximus</text><text start="283.24" dur="4.32">on what we</text><text start="284.52" dur="7.28">make I&amp;#39;m lucky that I have a supportive</text><text start="287.56" dur="6.28">family who can help me and and only have</text><text start="291.8" dur="5.36">and even though I only have one</text><text start="293.84" dur="6.799">child many of my Maximus co-workers</text><text start="297.16" dur="5.92">struggles just as much as I do</text><text start="300.639" dur="5.201">even if they have more children than I</text><text start="303.08" dur="6.04">do we do essential work for the federal</text><text start="305.84" dur="6.04">government and help many millions of</text><text start="309.12" dur="4.6">American Access Health Coverage we</text><text start="311.88" dur="4.319">should not be stuck in poverty</text><text start="313.72" dur="4.72">struggling just to</text><text start="316.199" dur="6.401">survive this wind is</text><text start="318.44" dur="6.759">crucial I apologize this wind is</text><text start="322.6" dur="6.319">crucial that&amp;#39;s why we&amp;#39;re organizing to</text><text start="325.199" dur="6">form a union so we can improve our work</text><text start="328.919" dur="6">condition provide hope for the best</text><text start="331.199" dur="7.44">future for our families but Maximus has</text><text start="334.919" dur="5.321">opposed us every step of the way our</text><text start="338.639" dur="4.521">demands are</text><text start="340.24" dur="7.44">simple a living wage of</text><text start="343.16" dur="7.36">$25 per hour affordable health care and</text><text start="347.68" dur="4.04">the freedom to form a union without IND</text><text start="350.52" dur="3.679">inter</text><text start="351.72" dur="6.44">termination and we&amp;#39;re here today to say</text><text start="354.199" dur="6.801">that if Maximus ignores our demands we</text><text start="358.16" dur="5.599">believe we have no choice choice but to</text><text start="361" dur="6.68">put I&amp;#39;m</text><text start="363.759" dur="6.801">sorry to put our phone down and fist</text><text start="367.68" dur="5.239">up we are ready to strike during year</text><text start="370.56" dur="5.32">open AR roic period to win fair</text><text start="372.919" dur="5.861">treatment and dignity and respect that</text><text start="375.88" dur="6.82">we deserve thank</text><text dur="3.919">who have been here since the start of</text><text start="424.12" dur="4.919">this know that I have been right here</text><text start="426.199" dur="4.881">with you I have been one of the very few</text><text start="429.039" dur="5.241">local elected officials that have came</text><text start="431.08" dur="4.76">out to support you all from day one and</text><text start="434.28" dur="4">I just want you all to know that I will</text><text start="435.84" dur="5.359">be here and and I will see this through</text><text start="438.28" dur="6.24">with you all</text><text start="441.199" dur="5.481">uh but only not only are we here today</text><text start="444.52" dur="5.04">to advocate for Maximus and and his</text><text start="446.68" dur="6.239">workers and their ability to be able to</text><text start="449.56" dur="5.52">have better wages to be able to uh feed</text><text start="452.919" dur="3.881">their families and not have to always</text><text start="455.08" dur="4.679">continue to make a decision whether we</text><text start="456.8" dur="6.32">can buy bread or by medicine all right</text><text start="459.759" dur="4.801">uh whether we need to have someone to</text><text start="463.12" dur="3.88">carry us to work or whether we can</text><text start="464.56" dur="4.28">afford gas our own self to get to work</text><text start="467" dur="3.639">okay you know those are those are</text><text start="468.84" dur="3.72">life-changing decisions for a lot of</text><text start="470.639" dur="3.881">people and to hear the young lady that</text><text start="472.56" dur="5.16">come before to said that she had to move</text><text start="474.52" dur="5.239">back home with her young son so that</text><text start="477.72" dur="4.96">they can be able to have somewhere to</text><text start="479.759" dur="4.44">rest at night those kind of things are</text><text start="482.68" dur="3.959">very important and it should be</text><text start="484.199" dur="3.321">important to all of us and including</text><text start="486.639" dur="4.601">those</text><text start="487.52" dur="5.72">who who own and operate Maximus but on</text><text start="491.24" dur="4.959">top of that as a CWA member I would be</text><text start="493.24" dur="4.76">remissed today if I didn&amp;#39;t say that on</text><text start="496.199" dur="3.96">top of the Maximus thing that we are</text><text start="498" dur="4.96">fighting here today is that we need to</text><text start="500.159" dur="5.88">pay close attention to this Broadband</text><text start="502.96" dur="4.919">bill because if we don&amp;#39;t then Broadband</text><text start="506.039" dur="5.241">in Mississippi would be handled just</text><text start="507.879" dur="6.6">like Maximus here in Mississippi okay if</text><text start="511.28" dur="5.759">we don&amp;#39;t start from the beginning to</text><text start="514.479" dur="4.641">make sure that the best hiring practices</text><text start="517.039" dur="4.68">are follow followed and we don&amp;#39;t make</text><text start="519.12" dur="4.52">sure that pay equal pay is followed and</text><text start="521.719" dur="3.721">we don&amp;#39;t make sure that training is</text><text start="523.64" dur="3.199">followed and we don&amp;#39;t make sure that</text><text start="525.44" dur="4.2">these things are done then we&amp;#39;re going</text><text start="526.839" dur="5.481">to get exactly what we&amp;#39;re asking for and</text><text start="529.64" dur="4.879">that is shoty work by shoty contractors</text><text start="532.32" dur="3.639">that&amp;#39;s going to give us sh service and</text><text start="534.519" dur="4.121">we don&amp;#39;t feel like we need to use</text><text start="535.959" dur="4.521">federal dollars or State dollars to make</text><text start="538.64" dur="3.879">to make make sure that people just bring</text><text start="540.48" dur="4.2">us internet we want good internet we</text><text start="542.519" dur="3.721">want reliable internet but on top of</text><text start="544.68" dur="3.599">that we want the people that are doing</text><text start="546.24" dur="4.2">the work to continue to stay here and</text><text start="548.279" dur="4.361">live here in Mississippi to continue to</text><text start="550.44" dur="5.079">provide those type of services that we</text><text start="552.64" dur="4.4">need we don&amp;#39;t mind contractors but we</text><text start="555.519" dur="3.721">have enough able bodies here in</text><text start="557.04" dur="3.88">Mississippi to be able to do the exact</text><text start="559.24" dur="3.719">same work that we could bring somebody</text><text start="560.92" dur="4.159">else from out of state to be able to do</text><text start="562.959" dur="4.32">as well so I ask all of you all here</text><text start="565.079" dur="4.721">today to please pay attention to if it&amp;#39;s</text><text start="567.279" dur="4.881">going to be be a better Broad let&amp;#39;s make</text><text start="569.8" dur="3.08">sure that it&amp;#39;s better broadband and not</text><text start="572.16" dur="3.2">just</text><text start="572.88" dur="4.959">broadband that&amp;#39;s enough of my soap box</text><text start="575.36" dur="5.8">today uh but it does give me great</text><text start="577.839" dur="5.201">pleasure to introduce a young man and I</text><text start="581.16" dur="4.16">call him a young man because he&amp;#39;s always</text><text start="583.04" dur="4.4">full of energy from the first time that</text><text start="585.32" dur="4.68">I had an opportunity to meet</text><text start="587.44" dur="5">him we reached out to several</text><text start="590" dur="5.36">individuals over a month or so ago to</text><text start="592.44" dur="4.56">come to a rally just like this and these</text><text start="595.36" dur="4.52">individuals was individual who was</text><text start="597" dur="5">running for the position of president</text><text start="599.88" dur="4.36">of national for</text><text start="602" dur="5.64">CWA one person</text><text start="604.24" dur="7.039">responded not with the email not with a</text><text start="607.64" dur="7.56">text message but they called us back and</text><text start="611.279" dur="5.361">asked when and what day what time and</text><text start="615.2" dur="4.12">where do I need to</text><text start="616.64" dur="5.56">be and they showed</text><text start="619.32" dur="5.56">up and Mr Claude Comins we can&amp;#39;t thank</text><text start="622.2" dur="5.24">you enough from choosing to come to</text><text start="624.88" dur="5">Hattisburg Mississippi all the way from</text><text start="627.44" dur="4.2">Houston Texas to</text><text start="629.88" dur="4.88">show his</text><text start="631.64" dur="5.639">support now when you have an individual</text><text start="634.76" dur="5.48">who is who can put down everything else</text><text start="637.279" dur="4.041">that they have going on and decide to</text><text start="640.24" dur="4.08">show</text><text been</text><text start="719.079" dur="4.2">absolutely fantastic and we certainly</text><text start="721.2" dur="5.4">appreciate it and listen I&amp;#39;m happy to be</text><text start="723.279" dur="5.441">joined today by uh Congress member Benny</text><text start="726.6" dur="3.52">Thompson give Ben Round of Applause I&amp;#39;ll</text><text start="728.72" dur="4.88">be bringing him up in a couple of</text><text start="730.12" dur="7.12">minutes and also CEO of the</text><text start="733.6" dur="6.239">NAACP Derek Johnson give him a round of</text><text start="737.24" dur="4.56">applause you know Dr King made it clear</text><text start="739.839" dur="3.56">some years ago that the civil rights</text><text start="741.8" dur="3.36">movement and the labor movement have the</text><text start="743.399" dur="3.601">same goals as a matter of fact he was</text><text start="745.16" dur="4.479">clear what sense does it make to be able</text><text start="747" dur="4.48">to March so people come can sit down in</text><text start="749.639" dur="3.961">a restaurant and eat but you don&amp;#39;t have</text><text start="751.48" dur="3.84">the money to pay for a hamburger right</text><text start="753.6" dur="3.28">to pay for the meal so we understood</text><text start="755.32" dur="3.28">clearly the importance of the civil</text><text start="756.88" dur="3.959">rights movement and the labor movement</text><text start="758.6" dur="4.96">being together so thank you so much uh</text><text start="760.839" dur="4.521">President Johnson for being being here</text><text start="763.56" dur="3.44">uh all the other Representatives that</text><text start="765.36" dur="3.44">are here raise your hand please all the</text><text start="767" dur="3.56">elected officials that have been here</text><text start="768.8" dur="4.36">let&amp;#39;s recognize them thank you so much</text><text start="770.56" dur="5.639">for coming out and supporting this uh</text><text start="773.16" dur="5.28">this effort and uh for the first time</text><text start="776.199" dur="4.241">for the very first time I want to</text><text start="778.44" dur="4.48">introduce ruce all of you to scabby</text><text start="780.44" dur="4.48">that&amp;#39;s scabby the rat over there some of</text><text start="782.92" dur="4.44">you did not know about scabby but we</text><text start="784.92" dur="3.719">bring scabby out uh to represent</text><text start="787.36" dur="4.919">corporate</text><text start="788.639" dur="6.2">green he&amp;#39;s representing corporate greed</text><text start="792.279" dur="4.321">of those over at Maximus that are taking</text><text start="794.839" dur="3.881">thousands and thousands of dollars from</text><text start="796.6" dur="4.039">the workers that are actually doing the</text><text start="798.72" dur="3.52">work simple as that and scabby is going</text><text start="800.639" dur="4.56">to show up in a lot of other places so</text><text start="802.24" dur="4.959">y&amp;#39;all stay tuned so I&amp;#39;m excited to be</text><text start="805.199" dur="4.561">here in Hattisburg since I was last here</text><text start="807.199" dur="4.721">in June I was elected C International</text><text start="809.76" dur="3.96">president I&amp;#39;m proud to be here again</text><text start="811.92" dur="3.76">standing in solidarity with the federal</text><text start="813.72" dur="4.88">call center workers to deliver a message</text><text start="815.68" dur="4.48">loud and clear to Maximus high paid</text><text start="818.6" dur="4.32">Executives and anyone else who is</text><text start="820.16" dur="5.2">listening CWA will stand with these</text><text start="822.92" dur="4.56">Brave workers every step of the way</text><text start="825.36" dur="4.719">until you win living wages affordable</text><text start="827.48" dur="4.84">health care and your union which would</text><text start="830.079" dur="2.241">be</text><text start="832.48" dur="4">CWA for years the maximum call center</text><text start="835.199" dur="3.56">workers have been speaking out about</text><text start="836.48" dur="5.08">their poor working conditions low wages</text><text start="838.759" dur="5.801">unaffordable Health Care no career path</text><text start="841.56" dur="4.8">unfair and insulting policies and</text><text start="844.56" dur="5.16">surprise layoffs that throw families</text><text start="846.36" dur="6">into crisis how has Maximus responded to</text><text start="849.72" dur="5.44">workers organizing their Union by trying</text><text start="852.36" dur="5.24">to silence you to deny you a real seat</text><text start="855.16" dur="4.84">at the table by retaliating against some</text><text start="857.6" dur="5.84">Union activities and calling the police</text><text start="860" dur="6.44">on workers engaged in Union activities</text><text start="863.44" dur="5.319">at CWA we know that when employeers try</text><text start="866.44" dur="4.759">to push workers up against the wall that</text><text start="868.759" dur="5.08">workers strongest power is to go on</text><text start="871.199" dur="4.361">strike CWA members have conducted</text><text start="873.839" dur="4.321">several of the largest strikes in the</text><text start="875.56" dur="4.44">United States and recent history and</text><text start="878.16" dur="4.799">each one of those strikes has led to</text><text start="880" dur="5.079">improvements in workers lives last</text><text start="882.959" dur="4.281">November Maximus call center workers led</text><text start="885.079" dur="5.401">the largest strike of non-union workers</text><text start="887.24" dur="6.399">in the south in recent history when over</text><text start="890.48" dur="7.24">500 workers put their phones downs and</text><text start="893.639" dur="7">they fist up in the air to demand better</text><text start="897.72" dur="5.679">yet here we are almost a year later and</text><text start="900.639" dur="4.801">Maximus continues to treat his workers</text><text start="903.399" dur="4.921">who are largely Black and Latino women</text><text start="905.44" dur="4.56">in the South like they don&amp;#39;t matter like</text><text start="908.32" dur="4.759">they shouldn&amp;#39;t have a real voice on the</text><text start="910" dur="5.72">job like they are disposable Maximus</text><text start="913.079" dur="5.361">treatment of his call center workers is</text><text start="915.72" dur="6.16">shameful absolutely shameful in the</text><text start="918.44" dur="5.92">words of Mississippi&amp;#39;s own F ler we are</text><text start="921.88" dur="5.72">here with Maximus workers to say we are</text><text start="924.36" dur="5.279">sick and tired of being sick</text><text start="927.6" dur="3.56">and</text><text start="929.639" dur="3.481">today we&amp;#39;re standing together to put</text><text start="931.16" dur="4.52">Maximus on notice that workers are</text><text start="933.12" dur="4.88">prepared to go on strike during the</text><text start="935.68" dur="4.68">Medicare and Affordable Care Act open</text><text start="938" dur="4.04">enrollment period unless Maximus</text><text start="940.36" dur="3.56">addresses their demands let me repeat</text><text start="942.04" dur="4.719">that so I want to make sure that they</text><text start="943.92" dur="6.2">hear me and that y&amp;#39;all hear me we are</text><text start="946.759" dur="5.241">prepared and we will go on strike during</text><text start="950.12" dur="4.92">the Medicare and Affordable Care Act</text><text start="952" dur="7">open remote enrollment period unless</text><text start="955.04" dur="5.88">Maximus addresses their demands and I&amp;#39;m</text><text start="959" dur="6.56">here to deliver a message to you Maximus</text><text start="960.92" dur="7.839">workers that I and all of CWA I as your</text><text start="965.56" dur="5.6">newly elected International president</text><text start="968.759" dur="4.401">have your back and I will stand with you</text><text start="971.16" up</text><text start="998.04" dur="5.96">someone that I am real real close to I&amp;#39;m</text><text start="1001.44" dur="4.959">talking about not only a real Congress</text><text start="1004" dur="4.199">member but just a real brother who you</text><text start="1006.399" dur="4.761">can talk to who will stand up for</text><text start="1008.199" dur="5.161">workers who has a 100% voting record for</text><text start="1011.16" dur="4.4">standing up for worker rights standing</text><text start="1013.36" dur="4.52">up for civil rights a standing up</text><text start="1015.56" dur="4.519">against those who are who trying to</text><text start="1017.88" dur="4.84">invade our capital and caus issues a</text><text start="1020.079" dur="4.48">couple of a couple of years ago one who</text><text start="1022.72" dur="4.599">speaks out on issues that are so</text><text start="1024.559" dur="5.161">important uh to us in this country and</text><text start="1027.319" dur="5.161">one that has represented Mississippi in</text><text start="1029.72" dur="5.52">a very very very great way over his many</text><text start="1032.48" dur="5.52">years uh in Congress uh at this time I</text><text start="1035.24" dur="4.959">bring to you our Congress member from</text><text start="1038" dur="3.72">Mississippi Congress member Benny</text><text start="1040.199" dur="3.321">Thompson let&amp;#39;s give him a round of</text><text start="1041.72" dur="4.64">applause a round of</text><text start="1043.52" dur="5.519">applause thank you very much good</text><text start="1046.36" dur="5.24">afternoon afternoon good afternoon</text><text start="1049.039" dur="4.161">good afternoon I came a long way to be</text><text start="1051.6" dur="4.319">with workers who want to make a</text><text start="1053.2" dur="4.96">difference in the workplace but you know</text><text start="1055.919" dur="5.321">you want to be respected in the</text><text start="1058.16" dur="6">workplace and so for a guy who doesn&amp;#39;t</text><text start="1061.24" dur="6.16">represent this area but I identify with</text><text start="1064.16" dur="6.6">your mission I identify because all you</text><text start="1067.4" dur="6.72">want is the ability to organize and</text><text start="1070.76" dur="5.52">choose the right to have representation</text><text start="1074.12" dur="4.76">in the workplace and that&amp;#39;s what you&amp;#39;re</text><text start="1076.28" dur="5.519">doing here at Maximus and I I support</text><text start="1078.88" dur="6.56">you for that more importantly for those</text><text start="1081.799" dur="8.281">of you who go to work every day you</text><text start="1085.44" dur="8.599">expect to be respected and paid a fair</text><text start="1090.08" dur="7.719">wage not just a living wage but a fair</text><text start="1094.039" dur="5.681">wage now what does that mean in order to</text><text start="1097.799" dur="4.401">get what you want you&amp;#39;re going to have</text><text start="1099.72" dur="5.92">to stick together and this is part of</text><text start="1102.2" dur="6.64">the process this company makes $2</text><text start="1105.64" dur="6.68">billion a year of federal</text><text start="1108.84" dur="5.68">contracts and they can&amp;#39;t pay you better</text><text start="1112.32" dur="4.359">than what they&amp;#39;re paying you now you</text><text start="1114.52" dur="4.68">know you give people a raise then you</text><text start="1116.679" dur="5.24">raise the deductible you give them a</text><text start="1119.2" dur="5.4">raise then you raise the contribution</text><text start="1121.919" dur="5.321">for the for the health care that&amp;#39;s not</text><text start="1124.6" dur="4.439">you know that&amp;#39;s that&amp;#39;s smoking mirrors</text><text start="1127.24" dur="5.439">because that doesn&amp;#39;t put anything on the</text><text start="1129.039" dur="5.681">table so part of the reason I&amp;#39;m here is</text><text start="1132.679" dur="4.561">to let you know that there are a lot of</text><text start="1134.72" dur="5.28">people who don&amp;#39;t live in the Hattisburg</text><text start="1137.24" dur="5.799">area who with you uh there are a lot of</text><text start="1140" dur="6.12">people who understand this cause but in</text><text start="1143.039" dur="7">unity there&amp;#39;s strength you have to stick</text><text start="1146.12" dur="6.52">together now in any organizing effort</text><text start="1150.039" dur="5.281">you&amp;#39;ll have scabs out there uh don&amp;#39;t</text><text start="1152.64" dur="5.12">worry about that but at the end God</text><text start="1155.32" dur="5.88">doesn&amp;#39;t like ugly and if you treat</text><text start="1157.76" dur="6.2">workers wrong then they&amp;#39;re being ugly</text><text start="1161.2" dur="5.28">and so I&amp;#39;m here on behalf of the</text><text start="1163.96" dur="5.079">Congressional Black Caucus there are 58</text><text start="1166.48" dur="4.64">of us in Washington we identif</text><text start="1169.039" dur="5.601">on a regular basis with workers and</text><text start="1171.12" dur="4.84">workers right issues in this country so</text><text start="1174.64" dur="4.919">on the other</text><text start="1175.96" dur="7.4">side just like when those crazy folk</text><text start="1179.559" dur="7.081">tried to take over the capital and they</text><text start="1183.36" dur="7.679">decided that they going to decide that</text><text start="1186.64" dur="7.919">the election was wrong well guess what I</text><text start="1191.039" dur="6.801">got the chair the committee and we spent</text><text start="1194.559" dur="5.441">a year and a half making sure that crazy</text><text start="1197.84" dur="6.56">folk don&amp;#39;t don&amp;#39;t ever take over anything</text><text start="1200" dur="7.799">again and the fact that I went to public</text><text start="1204.4" dur="5.92">school in Mississippi I went to college</text><text start="1207.799" dur="5.76">in Mississippi I married a Mississippi</text><text start="1210.32" dur="6.2">girl I got Mississippi children but the</text><text start="1213.559" dur="5.521">important thing is I have a brain and</text><text start="1216.52" dur="5.96">you as workers here at Maximus you have</text><text start="1219.08" dur="5.16">a brain and if you choose to organize</text><text start="1222.48" dur="3.84">then that&amp;#39;s your right as an American</text><text start="1224.24" dur="4.16">citizen you know don&amp;#39;t try to let the</text><text start="1226.32" dur="5.479">company say that we know what&amp;#39;s best for</text><text start="1228.4" dur="5.84">you no that&amp;#39;s not right and so for us to</text><text start="1231.799" dur="5.201">be here today standing in solidarity</text><text start="1234.24" dur="5.319">with you I want you to know we will talk</text><text start="1237" dur="4.24">to Maximus on the Congressional side and</text><text start="1239.559" dur="3.761">say look you have to treat the folk in</text><text start="1241.24" dur="4.96">Hattisburg better than you&amp;#39;re treating</text><text start="1243.32" dur="5.76">them now if they choose a bargaining</text><text start="1246.2" dur="5.16">unit you have to recognize it and that</text><text start="1249.08" dur="4">means that when you come to work you</text><text start="1251.36" dur="3.439">know how you going to be treated you</text><text start="1253.08" dur="4.44">know what you gonna make you know what</text><text start="1254.799" dur="5.481">the benefits are and at the end of the</text><text start="1257.52" dur="5.639">career you know there&amp;#39;s other things</text><text start="1260.28" dur="5.96">come like a pension and so what you have</text><text start="1263.159" dur="6">to have is you have to stick together I</text><text start="1266.24" dur="6.64">encourage you to stick together in unity</text><text start="1269.159" dur="6.601">there is strength Amen in unity there is</text><text start="1272.88" dur="6.12">strength there a lot of people who</text><text start="1275.76" dur="5.88">understand what you are about and so now</text><text start="1279" dur="4.559">with this rally today a lot of other</text><text start="1281.64" dur="4.76">people will know what the issues are so</text><text start="1283.559" dur="7.12">we support you we with you</text><text start="1286.4" dur="7.759">100% And I have to applaud Your</text><text start="1290.679" dur="6.48">Leader Claude Cummins good brother came</text><text start="1294.159" dur="5.88">all the way from Houston Texas to be</text><text start="1297.159" dur="6.921">with you today and he said if you</text><text start="1300.039" dur="7.601">support me for president of CWA I won&amp;#39;t</text><text start="1304.08" dur="7.52">forget you and guess what he&amp;#39;s here in</text><text start="1307.64" dur="6.76">support of what you all about now now</text><text start="1311.6" dur="5.199">other people used to be invited to come</text><text start="1314.4" dur="4.12">but they were always too busy that&amp;#39;s</text><text start="1316.799" dur="4.961">right you know now here&amp;#39;s the guy that</text><text start="1318.52" dur="5.36">runs the whole operation and he&amp;#39;s here</text><text start="1321.76" dur="4.96">and so that tells you that you made the</text><text start="1323.88" dur="5.12">right decision by electing him as your</text><text start="1326.72" dur="6.16">president the other person I&amp;#39;m going to</text><text start="1329" dur="6.36">introduce is somebody who is from</text><text start="1332.88" dur="5.64">Jackson Mississippi but he heads the</text><text start="1335.36" dur="6.28">largest civil rights organization in the</text><text start="1338.52" dur="6.639">country and and he&amp;#39;s here to show his</text><text start="1341.64" dur="7.2">support for it we did a rally in DC on</text><text start="1345.159" dur="5.681">behalf of the workers here at at Maximus</text><text start="1348.84" dur="5.719">and he was there and he&amp;#39;s here in</text><text start="1350.84" dur="6.719">Hattisburg but he&amp;#39;s the president and</text><text start="1354.559" dur="5.72">CEO of the largest civil rights</text><text start="1357.559" dur="5.72">organization in the world not just in</text><text start="1360.279" dur="7.391">the United States in the world the</text><text start="1363.279" dur="6.561">NAACP let me introduce to you Derek</text><text start="1367.67" dur="5.77">[Music]</text><text start="1369.84" dur="5.56">Johnson Mr Johnson thank you Congressman</text><text start="1373.44" dur="3.56">Thompson and thank you Claud for</text><text start="1375.4" dur="3.48">your leadership but more importantly for</text><text start="1377" dur="5.12">all the workers that are here give</text><text start="1378.88" dur="3.24">yourself a round of</text><text start="1383.279" dur="6.64">applause we understand that it&amp;#39;s not</text><text start="1386.6" dur="5.079">easy organizing an effort like this in</text><text start="1389.919" dur="4.161">front of the company in which you work</text><text start="1391.679" dur="4.88">at right the courage that you are</text><text start="1394.08" dur="6.479">showing today is the reason why I&amp;#39;m</text><text start="1396.559" dur="5.561">standing here today okay understanding</text><text start="1400.559" dur="4.321">the rights of individuals to</text><text start="1402.12" dur="5.28">collectively bargain is rooted in a</text><text start="1404.88" dur="6.52">civil rights tradition that we must</text><text start="1407.4" dur="5.84">support no matter what about a month ago</text><text start="1411.4" dur="4.08">Maximus reached out to our office they</text><text start="1413.24" dur="4.679">want to have a meeting I said I don&amp;#39;t</text><text start="1415.48" dur="4.28">have any reason to meet with you the</text><text start="1417.919" dur="3.441">only reason why I would meet with you if</text><text start="1419.76" dur="2.919">you had workers at the table if you&amp;#39;ve</text><text start="1421.36" dur="3.199">signed an agreement with them to</text><text start="1422.679" dur="3.961">increase their pay to ensure they had</text><text start="1424.559" dur="4.521">Medical Health Care and a quality of</text><text start="1426.64" dur="6.2">work life that all individuals should be</text><text start="1429.08" dur="6.44">entitled to for the naac CP let&amp;#39;s be</text><text start="1432.84" dur="6.04">clear when you strike we will be here</text><text start="1435.52" dur="5.84">with you to recognize that the reason</text><text start="1438.88" dur="4.76">why we exist as an organization is</text><text start="1441.36" dur="4.919">because they was trying to exploit black</text><text start="1443.64" dur="4.639">workers for cheap labor the reason why</text><text start="1446.279" dur="3.601">we were created as an organization</text><text start="1448.279" dur="3.801">because they exploited black folks for</text><text start="1449.88" dur="4.12">free labor we call slavery and at the</text><text start="1452.08" dur="4.28">end of the day the right of workers is</text><text start="1454" dur="5.2">the right of all citizens to be able to</text><text start="1456.36" dur="4">collectively bargain and we must do that</text><text start="1459.2" dur="3.88">with in</text><text start="1460.36" dur="6.4">solidarity now as we stand here in this</text><text start="1463.08" dur="5.8">hot sun hot hot sun and a parking lot</text><text start="1466.76" dur="5.12">behind us that&amp;#39;s full</text><text start="1468.88" dur="5.679">we need you to give your co-workers</text><text start="1471.88" dur="5.84">courage to ensure that they are willing</text><text start="1474.559" dur="5.681">to stand with you as me in the</text><text start="1477.72" dur="4.72">Congressional Black Co caucus and coxman</text><text start="1480.24" dur="4.6">Thompson we also need to give the Biden</text><text start="1482.44" dur="4.32">Administration a little courage as well</text><text start="1484.84" dur="3.76">to make sure that the Secretary of</text><text start="1486.76" dur="4.6">Health and Human Services review this</text><text start="1488.6" dur="5.84">contract not renew this contract unless</text><text start="1491.36" dur="6.24">they give workers the right that you are</text><text start="1494.44" dur="5.52">deserving for the NAACP we are here with</text><text start="1497.6" dur="4.12">you women&amp;#39;s Economic Security and</text><text start="1606.52" dur="7.12">Civic engagement the story that we heard</text><text start="1609.72" dur="7.559">of nikesha that is one of so many</text><text start="1613.64" dur="5.96">stories that we hear about black women</text><text start="1617.279" dur="5.161">and Brown women not having what they</text><text start="1619.6" dur="5.679">need to take care of themselves and</text><text start="1622.44" dur="7">their families because we understand</text><text start="1625.279" dur="8.041">that Health Care is a human right</text><text start="1629.44" dur="7.599">yes we know that having livable wages is</text><text start="1633.32" dur="6.079">a human right yes yes yes and so for</text><text start="1637.039" dur="4.64">more than two years we launched a</text><text start="1639.399" dur="5.64">project called the Mississippi voices</text><text start="1641.679" dur="6.441">project focusing on access to health</text><text start="1645.039" dur="5.921">care for black and ltin women</text><text start="1648.12" dur="5.919">we talk with black and latinx women all</text><text start="1650.96" dur="5.56">over the state who routinely prevented</text><text start="1654.039" dur="5.921">from having access to Quality Health</text><text start="1656.52" dur="7.159">Care for by systems and forces them out</text><text start="1659.96" dur="7.079">of control workers at the federal call</text><text start="1663.679" dur="6">center operated by Maximus are at the</text><text start="1667.039" dur="6.401">intersections of the same Health Care</text><text start="1669.679" dur="7.401">challenges facing our communities on the</text><text start="1673.44" dur="6.079">one hand these call centers workers help</text><text start="1677.08" dur="5.04">Millions of their fellow Americans</text><text start="1679.519" dur="5.801">access Affordable Health Care through</text><text start="1682.12" dur="6.439">Affordable Care Act and Medicare on the</text><text start="1685.32" dur="6.04">other hand these very same workers are</text><text start="1688.559" dur="5.801">predominantly black and brown women do</text><text start="1691.36" dur="5.88">not have access to Affordable Healthcare</text><text start="1694.36" dur="4.96">from their employers and many struggle</text><text start="1697.24" dur="5.4">as you have heard to pay for critical</text><text start="1699.32" dur="7.839">health care because of low wages and out</text><text start="1702.64" dur="7.519">of high and and high outof pocket cost</text><text start="1707.159" dur="6.041">I&amp;#39;m here to join with the workers I&amp;#39;m</text><text start="1710.159" dur="5.601">here to join with the workers</text><text start="1713.2" dur="5">today and to say this is</text><text start="1715.76" dur="5.48">unacceptable and that our network of</text><text start="1718.2" dur="7.44">hundreds of women across the state stand</text><text start="1721.24" dur="6.64">with you it is time for Maximus with its</text><text start="1725.64" dur="4.96">billions of dollars to meet these</text><text start="1727.88" dur="5.36">workers demands for living wages</text><text start="1730.6" dur="5.799">affordable healthcare and the freedom to</text><text start="1733.24" dur="5.08">form a union without employer</text><text start="1736.399" dur="4.201">interference</text><text start="1738.32" dur="5.44">Mississippi black women&amp;#39;s Round Table is</text><text start="1740.6" dur="6.199">proud to dur="6.521">for five years now I handle calls for</text><text start="1818.12" dur="6.48">both Medicare and the Affordable Care</text><text start="1821.2" dur="7.68">outlines taking calls from families that</text><text start="1824.6" dur="7">experience very serious challenges</text><text start="1828.88" dur="5.039">we are the reason Maximus has been</text><text start="1831.6" dur="7.199">awarded billions of contract</text><text start="1833.919" dur="6.961">dollars we do the important work we</text><text start="1838.799" dur="6.161">deserve living</text><text start="1840.88" dur="6.44">wage we have lives outside the workplace</text><text start="1844.96" dur="5.559">and families that rely on us that we</text><text start="1847.32" dur="5.079">bring to the table none of these uh</text><text start="1850.519" dur="3.241">Maximus Executives with their</text><text start="1852.399" dur="4.88">million-dollar</text><text start="1853.76" dur="5.399">paychecks can look Us in the eyes and</text><text start="1857.279" dur="4.201">explain how our low wages are supposed</text><text start="1859.159" dur="4.841">to support an entire</text><text start="1861.48" dur="4.88">family this is why I&amp;#39;m</text><text start="1864" dur="6.84">organizing with my</text><text start="1866.36" dur="7.559">co-workers to win our Union and</text><text start="1870.84" dur="6.559">respect cuz when we began talking to</text><text start="1873.919" dur="5.72">co-workers and making demands for jange</text><text start="1877.399" dur="6.841">Maximus refused to</text><text start="1879.639" dur="6.52">listen and instead Maximus launched an</text><text start="1884.24" dur="5.319">anti-union</text><text start="1886.159" dur="6.721">campaigns the company sprad anti-union</text><text start="1889.559" dur="5.96">communication to scare us away from</text><text start="1892.88" dur="5.159">organizing and they even fed us</text><text start="1895.519" dur="4.601">misinformation about joining a union</text><text start="1898.039" dur="5.401">during our work</text><text start="1900.12" dur="7.24">meetings they they tried to discipline</text><text start="1903.44" dur="7.119">me for just putting a sign at my</text><text start="1907.36" dur="6.319">desk maximis knows that when we come</text><text start="1910.559" dur="5.801">together that we have the</text><text start="1913.679" dur="4.48">power and they are scared of Us coming</text><text start="1916.36" dur="4.679">together</text><text start="1918.159" dur="5.561">so they spread the fear among workers to</text><text start="1921.039" dur="6.12">divide us and keep us under</text><text start="1923.72" dur="6.079">control now we know the change we need</text><text start="1927.159" dur="6.36">only will come when we win our</text><text start="1929.799" dur="6.401">Union and we can sit down to negotiate a</text><text start="1933.519" dur="3.561">contract we demand that Maximus stop all</text><text start="1936.2" dur="2.839">the</text><text start="1937.08" dur="4.64">fear</text><text start="1939.039" dur="4.52">intimidation interference and respect</text><text start="1941.72" dur="6">our freedom to choose our</text><text start="1943.559" dur="6.401">unions for ourselves everything we have</text><text start="1947.72" dur="4.52">everyone as</text><text start="1949.96" dur="3.559">workers we had to do so through the</text><text start="1952.24" dur="4.36">fight of</text><text start="1953.519" dur="6">management so if Maximus executives are</text><text start="1956.6" dur="5.6">willing to not willing to and I&amp;#39;ve I&amp;#39;ve worked there for 10</text><text start="2023.279" dur="5.601">years since the very first training</text><text start="2025.6" dur="6.72">class when the call center was opened in</text><text start="2028.88" dur="6.36">2013 like many of us I expected that</text><text start="2032.32" dur="5.12">doing federal work that I could receive</text><text start="2035.24" dur="5.2">better pay and better work work</text><text start="2037.44" dur="6.28">conditions but that&amp;#39;s not the case</text><text start="2040.44" dur="6.959">Maximus has kept us in poverty with low</text><text start="2043.72" dur="6.439">wages and poor work conditions like many</text><text start="2047.399" dur="5.841">other Maximus C Center workers I am a</text><text start="2050.159" dur="5.561">mother of three children and several of</text><text start="2053.24" dur="5.159">my family members have worked for</text><text start="2055.72" dur="6.359">Maximus I know firsthand that this</text><text start="2058.399" dur="7.561">company does not care about us I&amp;#39;m also</text><text start="2062.079" dur="6.361">a a two-time cancer survivor um through</text><text start="2065.96" dur="4.52">my health challeng es I&amp;#39;ve had to</text><text start="2068.44" dur="5.76">struggle with Maxima&amp;#39;s Health Care</text><text start="2070.48" dur="5.879">coverage or even just to get time off to</text><text start="2074.2" dur="4.84">take care of myself and my family</text><text start="2076.359" dur="5.601">members I&amp;#39;ve had to really fight to get</text><text start="2079.04" dur="6.119">time off for bereavement so I could bury</text><text start="2081.96" dur="6.399">family members who&amp;#39;ve passed away this</text><text start="2085.159" dur="6.561">is how Maximus treat a family that has</text><text start="2088.359" dur="6.24">given so much labor and commitment now</text><text start="2091.72" dur="5.92">but yet at the same time when your</text><text start="2094.599" dur="5.601">grandparents have a question about their</text><text start="2097.64" dur="3.76">Medicare I&amp;#39;m the one on the other end of</text><text start="2100.2" dur="3.72">that</text><text start="2101.4" dur="6.16">phone and I walk them through this</text><text start="2103.92" dur="6.52">complicated health system and make sure</text><text start="2107.56" dur="6.36">they get the help they need I do that</text><text start="2110.44" dur="7">day after day and as call cental workers</text><text start="2113.92" dur="6.64">we prepare to provide access to</text><text start="2117.44" dur="6">Affordable Health Care for the entire</text><text start="2120.56" dur="5.519">country meanwhile we do not have</text><text start="2123.44" dur="7.08">Affordable Health Care uh and neither do</text><text start="2126.079" dur="7.641">our own amilies there is no reason we</text><text start="2130.52" dur="6.88">for this and we deserve better we&amp;#39;ve</text><text start="2133.72" dur="6.52">been devalued and disrespected but now</text><text start="2137.4" dur="2.84">we&amp;#39;re fed</text><text start="2140.88" dur="5.28">up now before I was call a call center</text><text start="2144.28" dur="5.12">worker I worked at the chicken planting</text><text start="2146.16" dur="6.199">College made more better</text><text start="2149.4" dur="4.84">everything um I signed on to be a call</text><text start="2152.359" dur="4.72">center worker because as I stated</text><text start="2154.24" dur="5.44">earlier I expected doing work for a</text><text start="2157.079" dur="6.121">federal contractor will provide better</text><text start="2159.68" dur="6">pay better benefits and conditions</text><text start="2163.2" dur="5.36">Maximus even promised that their</text><text start="2165.68" dur="5.8">contract would boost our economy with</text><text start="2168.56" dur="6.2">with with better compensation for</text><text start="2171.48" dur="5.4">workers also now but joining Maximus</text><text start="2174.76" dur="4.68">from the chicken plant I did take a pay</text><text start="2176.88" dur="4.88">cut and I&amp;#39;ve been at that been at the</text><text start="2179.44" dur="5.04">call center from the start and from the</text><text start="2181.76" dur="6.079">beginning Maximus has kept our wages</text><text start="2184.48" dur="6.96">below the typical wages in every County</text><text start="2187.839" dur="6.76">they placed a call center Maximus</text><text start="2191.44" dur="6.04">management has made a decision to keep</text><text start="2194.599" dur="5.841">us in poverty if they don&amp;#39;t listen to</text><text start="2197.48" dur="6.28">our calls for better working condition</text><text start="2200.44" dur="6.2">we have no other choice but to prepare</text><text start="2203.76" dur="6.599">to go on strike phones</text><text start="2206.64" dur="3.719">down phones</text><text start="2212.53"
